The "Getty Images" people (AKA the Getty museum fatcats) are living in a fool's paradise. They can't "own" every scrap of film or still picture ever made just because they say so, and slap their name on it. They're a bunch of Johnny-come-latelys who think they're so rich they can just buy everything. Well, sorry but public domain ain't for sale, folks! So SCREW the greedy Getty family!
Mia Farrow in this clip is stunning. In fact that was going to be my comment- the fact that she was not of the era, but could have been. And that's a tall order.
It was a real family. Those who were there tell me L.A. and Hollywood were like a little farm town. Movie people got up a 4:30 a.m. and got home after 8. Six days a week! Sunday they went to each other's homes for dining and swimming and playing tennis. It was always very fresh and lively and light and people were true friends. I have friends who grew up in Hollywood in the film community and they always say weren't aware until their late teens that their parents were famous.
Ginger Rogers was the bomb, her talent often reduced to being Fred's sidekick but truth be told she was a talented Lady and the better actor of the duo by far!
that made me sad, for whatever reason. sad in a good way, i suppose, but sad, nevertheless. these people are all dead, and we're stuck with... bruno. :(
The klutz 'stars' of today do not compare with those of early Hollywood. The old stars had class even if it was only ordered by the studio. Can anyone say that Lindsay Lohan has 'class?' Now you take Brittany Spears...please...
Very good images of stars with such magnitude we will never see the likes of again. One thing though, Mia Farrow doesn't belong in this group - isn't even close. Free as a Bird is a great song - why didn't you use the original?
@GeminiNightOwl Technically this is the original. It's John Lennon's "demo" of the song. After John's death, the other Beatles recorded their parts and mixed the song together for one of the Anthology albums.
You put a very nice compilation together! I think the music fits too, I just didn't like the "Getty Images" watermark, but I assume you couldn't delete it. Looking forward to more of your videos!
Please consider redoing your list to reflect them in order of appearance. Many of us have never even heard of those people, let alone seen their faces! It would have been nice to know who we were looking at! Also the "Getty Images" watermark is unnecessary in the middle it blurs up the faces!
Just a question - why was Mia Farrow included? She's really not a classic star like the others. And this Edna Purviance - complete UNKNOWN! But, it's still a lovely video!
You're telling us about your knowledge of film, not the status of Edna Purviance. Stacee said she was nobody and that was flat wrong. Now you're trying to say Stacee's right because Purviance isn't among the stars that every idiot in the world knows. Impressive comeback -- not! 'Nuff said!
Just because some aren't lucky enough to know Edna Purviance doesn't mean she's 'unknown'. Let's get that straight.
I'm not implying anyone is an idiot, but check out her work and you might find you enjoy it. After all she starred with Chaplin and he is a legend that ranks amongst those that you have mentioned.
I actually wish I could, I would have loved to work just one day as his leading lady, and of all of them, she was my favorite, and what a beauty she was too!
@kaydeyrai That's Harold Lloyd.

Mia Farrow is part of our cinema and cultural history. Edna Purviance was Charlie Chaplin's leading lady in dozens of his early films.

Edna Purviance is not an unknown! Not by a long shot.
yelloworangered 3 years ago 2
Let's put it this way: she does not have the name recognition of a Monroe, Hayworth, Garbo, or Streisand. Agree with StaceeStaxxx - 'nuff said!
