Why even bother making this episode if they fuck up the historical accuracy of the ending? If anything, the dude at the end would have just thrown himself upon his sword having been disgraced in his defeat.
well i gotta say back then joining the legion was almost a lifetime commitment, fifteen years of service, harsh penaltis for breaking order, those men who ran would have been crucified by roman military doctrine
I think the punishment was decimation. The members of the cowardly legion drew lots to see who got the honor of beheading. 1 out of every 10 lots was for execution. I think they drew by file or century (or cohort?). Not a fun afternoon in that legion.
@eXcommunicate1979 They got the flags and what not wrong, though sometimes battles would turn out in giant most pits like that, though not often with Roma.
They used trumpets to give commands. Also, each century, cohort, and legion had their own standards (kind of like flags, but not really) which the men followed. :)
@corollatime Yes, the civil war which broke out after Julius Caesar was assassinated by the two generals; Brutus and Cassius, versus Mark Antony and Caesar's great-nephew; Octavian, who later became Augustus the first Roman Emperor.
Why do all of you little fags say the same shit? enough with the arrow to the fucking X jokes!!!!!!!!! I read that same fucking stupid joke on almost every vid I view. Stop being a noobcake.
Haha. Funny how today we think of theese old "ancient" armies as wimps and people always go "Oh if I was there, I would be strong and kill everyone with my sword and gun" Back then. This warfare was absolute strategy, and horrifying. If I was in that Testudo formation at 4:30, I would have been scared shitless.
@adam200098 HBO series called Rome. its really good they have like 2 seasons. it does have alot of nudity in it though :P this episode is close to the end of season 2
Its a real shame that they did not show the pila storm that Roman armies used before they closed with the enemy - the CGI effects in HBO's Rome where not bad so I hope if they even take up another part of Roman history they include this - Marian reforms era of the Rupublic would make a good prequel as the Romans faced their two Greatest threats - defeats & Victory at the hands of the Cimbri (Nordic-Celtic people) & the sadistic evil Carthagains ( Hannible) the Republic adapted better than Empire
@ramen3 Brutus and Cassius lost the battle, afterwards the roman empire was divided in three: Octavian was to take Spain, Gaul, & Italy; Antony was to take the Easter provinces Judea, Asia minor & Greek peninsula; and Lepidus was to take Africa
@dresendezz It's not a movie. It's more of a drama. There are two series and this battle takes place in the second one. Pretty sure this is the only battle [on this scale] shown, but it's still an exceptional series. I'd recommend looking it up. HBO's Rome.
@dresendezz No it is a joke. The name of the game is Rome: Total War, and he added in a scene from some movie, then at the end added in a victory screen from the game.
@Spridium1Jono Its footage from 'Rome'. It was a BBC/HBO drama Series a few years ago set between rome's transition from republic to empire. It's a brilliant series and pretty good for gaining some basic knowlege of that time.
@sharklord because North American audiences, Americans in particular can't really differentiate between different accents. So the most exotic accent you need is a British one, which also happens to be the easiest for North American audiences to understand without subtitles.
@Koalaheikki To the American public, yes, yes they do. Any film set in the classical period generally involves actors with, or putting on, English accents because it conveys a sort of old fashioned, philosophical aura of the time. Try Troy or Gladiator, same principle.
@johnnylr Why exactly do you believe English accents to be inherent with philosophy and archaic time periods? That doesn't make sense.
This scene was pretty terrible. Unnecessary slow motion, pseudo-dramatic music and inappropriate accents. I'd much prefer authentic accents that reflect Roman imperial culture as opposed to something universally acceptable.
@CrookedSmirk Don't ask me. They have English accents because that is what the US audience is deemed to think is relatable. Why else do you think they have those voices? It is what will sell the most. Not that I ever stated that I felt it was a good thing, it's just fact.
@DukeOfTennessee117 Wait wasn't the battle of Pharsalus part of Caesar's Civil War, and this, the battle of Philippi part of the Liberator's Civil War? Or am I wrong?
@black00dice The battle of philippi was the final battle in the wars of the second triumvirate ,between the forces of octavion and mark antony and ceaser's assasins (Brutus and cassius)
@jayjay042298456 Sure as hell doesn't look like one... (I mean seriously... those guys are wearing plastic-optic weapons and outfits and above all, flags... it's ridiculous.)
The only fault in the series and the video too that Antonius and Octavianus defeated Cassius and Brutus not at the same time, there were days between the battles
