@mifan93 that's from the slight lack of oil on start up. the old 2.3 and the 2.5 4's have an oil filter mounted sideways on the block, that would leak down like a son of a bitch, and would be somewhat slow to develop oil pressure at start because the oil filter was partially drained. There's an assembly that bolted to clevelands for the oil filter that can be used to put an FL1A on there mounted vertically. did that on one that I had. did the trick!
I wonder what that chirp is at right when the engine fires up? mine does that too...

why do the rangers and explorers make that noise when starting up. sounds like grinding. My 2.5L and my 4.0L both do it. anyone help?

I have a '99 Ranger Sport 4x4 with the 4.0 OHV. It's never failed to start and has never left me stranded. Great engines in great trucks!
