  • Although I'm African-American, I can't be more happy for this new awakened of the native people of this land. A false divide has been placed between First Nation people in the US-Canada English speaking regions from the Spanish speaking regions for far too long. Once your group successfully re-educates the Spanish speaking natives, the White numbers will drop dramatically in the US census, and the First Nation/American Indian/Native American numbers will go up.

  • You guys are all right one thing the census seems to not realize is that hispanics are mixed people. I'm dominican and most dominicans consider themselves "other race" because of the mixed European/african heritage there same with mexico only difference is european/ameridian heritage. I think there should be a category for mestizo and mulatto because the term "white hispanic" is ridiculously false. It's just the world "indian" or "black" is looked down upon compared to white.

  • This is such a beautiful video! I've been searching all my life for my identity, to figure out why I was so different, but being of Mexican ancestry, I come to figure out that there really is not a big difference from one indio to the next. We're all rightfully part of this continent and the different labels we're given, "American Indian", "Hispanic", "Mexican", they're just labels created to keep us separated and not find our common indian ancestor within each other. I absolutely love this!

  • They still work to divide us up.

  • before I didn't know any of this but one year ago I got really interested in the subject and decided to fill in the box mark ( the what race are you) as Amerindian and such to every school, work etc application I applied to =D

I'm glad I did it because that's how I feel and identify myself as a Native American :)

  • This is so beautiful. I'm filled with emotion! Just the word "HOPE" for OUR PEOPLE, UNITED TOGETHER, FROM OCEAN TO OCEAN, FROM POLE TO POLE! We are one, and I LOVE MY PEOPLE! =)

  • I know for a fact that here in Texas people still hide their Native Ancestory because the racism is so bad and the fact that Mexican and MOST Texas Natives DO NOT HAVE ANY U.S. Federal Rights. The only protection they have is under the Native American Church for religion. So we have Millions of Aztec,Chicanos and other Native mixes that have no education funds, no healthcare, and no NDN Card because we are viewd as "free" indians not reservation indians. So the Intertribal Centers cannot help.

  • @AdawehiMeliLayton

What part of Texas are you from? :)

I am from Sinton TX. :)

  • @AnahuacNicanTlaca I am originally from the Laredo area, now I live near the Dallas area. Texas:)

  • i'm with you pero tengo una pregunta...como se dice esa palabra "cemanahuac"???

  • I'm Salvadoran-American from NYC.I consider myself hispanic.

  • @98bigbutt Why? Are you of Spanish descent? Or are you Indigenous to the Western Hemisphere, or mixed, but considers his/herself property of Spain? lol...

  • @98bigbutt That's becuase you wish you were white.

  • Most Mestizos have 90% Amerindian blood and 10% European blood...

They should still be counted as Amerindian.I don't like the term Latino and Hispanic..

  • @EastAsiandictator This is not true, meztizos are about between 50 and 60 % european blood or maybe even more. I'd seen darker mexican than me & they have 60% euroean blood the rest is mayan.

  • Indigenous People of the Americas "RISE" and "UNITE"...Latinos with Native blood in them can join the movement.

  • -cont.-The IRONY: Miss Diaz's father is spanish-cuban(a Real hispanic/Latino) ;if she got some indian in her, it was from her American mother! an ex of the Brainwash society we live in that we fail to see

  • People been saying that they are force to be in the hispanic/latino label! But in the Census they're giving u 2 options to choose from Yes/No. You CAN CHOOSE No and then from there go to the race question. Jessica Alba was right to say she is not Latina as she wasnt even raised in the language/culture sad thing was she was moslty attacked by her brown people while no one attacked Cameron Diaz

  • @sokerhead because diaz is so white

  • your trick ain't gonna work white man mexicans are the original americans we are native americans

  • your trick ain't gonna work white man mexicans are the original americans we are native americans

  • your trick ain't gonna work white man mexicans are the original americans we are native americans

  • hispanic is a trick question to include us europeans wish we are not we are the original americans. (mexicans). dont fall for there trick.

  • 1/4 Mayan and Taino

    Nicaragua :D

  • 1/4 Mayan and Taino

    Nicaragua :D

  • We are alive and unfortunately stil wrongly represented with ugly names like latinos hisPANICS

  • heinz 57 all i can say.

  • most american indian people are still alive and growing lol

most "mestizo" mexicans are american indian but spaniards changed their last names by force

also in peru, colombia, ecuador, bolivia, chile , venezuela y central america

  • we should anwer the census questions...I had problem with 8 and 9 questionary and I called the census bereau and I was told to put...No, hispanic, latino or hispanic origin and 9 put other race...example like quechua, guarani etc etc

  • The word or tribe Aztec is indigenous and original. They were the ancestors, from Aztlan, of the Tenochca who later changed their name to Mexica. The Spanish historically named the people "Aztec" since it was easier for them to pronounce than Me-shee-ka. I am not against what your proposal but I do not totally agree with you. I do not consider myself "American" indian but more specifically just MEXICAN!

  • I am a proud 100% mexicano but this video is full of ignorance. I understand what you are trying to say & do but you lack very important facts. Mexicano is a hispanicised word from the plural mexica or singular mexicatl meaning that our culture is a mixture of indigenous and european. That cannot be denied. You use words from the language Nahuatl failing to recognize the many other native tongues of Mexico. Not everybody from Mexico is of Mexica descent nor is everybody of pure indigenous blood.

  • God help us, whoever you conceive him to be, for he is not bound by dogma.

But God help us if we dont stop the politicians soon! They are insane..

Please remember not all of us who are white think like this.

and also try to remember, we are many tribes, creeds, races and cultures, religions and beliefs who are spanned across one world.

    All living under one sun.

Be proud of heritage, be proud to be different, be the people you want to be, not who others want you to be.

    Finally Peace!...

  • I need to post this video on my Facebook page, the community needs to be informed. Thanx for sharing :-)

  • @PriestessLeah I absolutely agree with you about "Halfbreeds" comment...

  • we are still here whitees. Hollywood and your so called American education lied to you, just as they lie about everything else in the world....

  • most indians are gone you whant to see indians go to mexico 100% indio for you .

  • INDIANS PEOPLE ARE STILLS HERE..

  • cool presentation, thanx! :)

  • i know some people who are enrolled in tribes and a lot them look all white, yet they are legally written down as "native american" that's crazy!

  • We are the MECHICA! We are Gods children of the Earth..."They will not walk but run they will mount up like eagles"

  • very good bc the mexika are to american indian and with all this so called ''book smarts'' why dont these whites o whom ever dont relize this..bc these people want to steal our birth right country and rather wipe our seed from the earth this only will happen if we as a red nation keep accepting the scam o lying truths that they set on us and stand up be proud of who we are as a people and unite the ''eagle and condor''

  • the whitemans at war with natives any good commander/ chief would say hide your numbers dont do census

  • @n8tivguitar you are quite silly.

  • I see race as being real, that's why I particularly hate xenophobic double standards!

My father in law was 1/4 Cherokee while I'm 40% Amerindian.

Yet Americans NEVER identify as half-breeds.

    Can you guess why?

Maybe they see it as degrading...? Bingo. But they have no problem calling us half-breeds.

I'll make you folks a deal, when all you green eyed Cherokees identify as "half-breeds", we will too. How about that?

  • What I don't get is why they just don't have a "Mestizo" option. I mean I'm mixed, Spanish and Amerindian. So why do I have to say I'm a white hispanic? Isn't that just half representation? I'm not affiliated with a Mexican tribe, which I'm sure most Mesitzos are not either, and the census states you have to be. So am I like half nothing????? I'm so confused about it. I can't watch this video right now(someone is trying to sleep nearby, but I'll check this out later, the disc made me think.

  • They don't add "mestizo" because that just mean mix in Castilian (spanish)

♦ "Mestizo" is NOT an Identity.

There is no country, language that is call "mestizo"

if there was to be a "mestizo" identity in the Census many people in the U.S would fall into that category. Look at Barak Obama; he's Black and White (mestizo) but most people see him as African American and not Caucasian "white".

  • Yes you can mark in the census of 2010 that you are American Indian/Native American even if you're not affiliated to a "tribal" nation.

Take for example the Jonas brothers they are White and American Indian and they are not "affiliated" with the Tsalagi Nation "Cherokees" .

Most peoples don't see them as "mestizos" but insted they see them as "white" Caucasians.

    You see my point?

  • To make it easy for you to understand, take this in consideration!

    ♦What is Identity?

    • Racial Identity: this concept operates at two levels: (1) self identity or conceptualization based upon perceptions of ones race and (2) societys perception and definition of a persons race.

  • Don't listen to Americans when they tell you that you are a half-breed. I'll tell you why. Do you see any of them identifying as half-breeds? No.

Does anyone call Johnny Depp half-breed? No, he's seen as White. Demi Moore? White.

Do me a favor and search for "Cherokee Indian"

    What do you see?

    Exactly. A bunch of "half-breeds"

You should identify as you wish. Those blond Cherokees in reservations are already exercising that right.

  • Whites aren't immigrants, we are conquerers, just like many of the natives were. And if you have both native and European blood, don't try to pick one as if you have a choice in your race, just accept that you are a halfbreed.

  • LOL @ "halfbreed"

Isn't it a bit of a double standard that we accept Demi Moore and the Jonas brothers as WHITE but you are calling Mexicans "half-breeds"?

I'm sorry but most "White" folks in the U.S. are mixed with Amerindian. It's just that:

    1) You're usually mixed with Northern European (so am I btw), so you end up lighter than those mixed with Med.

    2) The fact that there are less Indians in the U.S. makes dilution be much quicker so most of you are 1/10th or less.

  • Whites have much more pure European blood than most Mexicans. I'm actually rather proud to have a smideon of cherokee, but theres no sign of it in the appearance. Based on looks most white people could blend perfectly into Europe, whereas most Mexicans would be recognized as Mexicans anywhere they go.

  • @mouthpiece200 It looks like you have NEVER been to Spain or Italy.

  • no, i dont agree with you bc even in the old 1500c to late 1800c pics some of us are light and most europeans that go around saying they are indian denies the fact they have black in their veins and wont accept this true fact when they took mixblood blck/whte women and made whores of them they had children by white buyers who inturn married back into white societies..so today when you see dark skinned offspring better think twice if its coming from black bloodlines

  • ♦ RACE: a recent idea created by western Europeans following exploration across the world to account for differences among people and justify colonization, conquest, enslavement, and social hierarchy among humans. The term is used to refer to groupings of people according to common origin or background and associated with perceived biological markers.

  • Race is a very real thing - a classification of the genetic lines of humanity. It is unfortunate that people use race to justify malevolent behavior, but those people are the exception rather than the rule. We ought to be proud of whatever line we come from because it is the link to our ancestors.

  • Among humans there are no races except the human race. In biology, the term has limited use, usually associated with organisms or populations that are able to interbreed. Ideas about race are culturally and socially transmitted and form the basis of racism, racial classification and often complex racial identities.

  • i'm not sure about the expression amerian indian> indian comes from India, so just because i might look like an indian i must be called indian? even though i wasn't born in India but in America the result is : american indian

i'm confused i will just say that i'm american because i live in america continent, for more information i will say i'm peruvian because i was born there and so my parents did and all my family im NOT american indian or indigenous (i have a mix of other cultures)

  • Very informative video, the problem is the some other race category in which many amerindians who may have an origin from so called latin america mark the hispanic/latino origin option as there race,so basically they mark latino than they mark some other race the census needs to remove the some other race box and change the native american box to amerindian..

  • the prophecy say's the blood that was spread will return to it's main origin base of our ancestors and will come back in us and our sons and the children of our sons.

La profecia dice que la sangre que fue deramada regresara a su base original en nosotros en los hijos de nosotros y en los hijos de nuestros hijos.

My great grandmother was pure Tarasco and Otomi of the Valley of Mexico of great Tenochtitlan, like the the two last greatest warriors Crazy Horse and The Prophet Geronimo.

  • very true prophecy.....i see this in the now happening..so,now people cant hide the truth.....wado

  • OMG sooo true

  • You are so right! I have been claiming the wrong ethnicity all this time! Thanks for sharing!

  • Oh my God. Everybody needs to watch this video. Every time I see demographics for a state and I see "American Indian 0.4%" it's just so ridiculous when there are so many clearly Indigenous people from south of the border walking around.

  • viva Colombia!! ;)

  • this video brings to light a problem that people from "Latin America" have faced, During the last census my family and I were filling out the census form, in the racial section there was no listing of latino: Indigenous, Latino:amerindian or anything of the sort, there was only black, white, Native American/Alaska Native

We know that we are not white despite of the fact that the census tries hard to group as as that we are Pipil from El Salvador so we chose Native American and wrote in Pipil!

  • Well said. I am a Native born in Peru, my heritage is Muchik and Quechua, I am American Indian.

  • In 2000 when the cencus came to my house they asked if any Latin Americans lived here, I said I was half Italian and Half Shawnee/Wyandotte. They said that wasn't Latin American! What could be MORE Latin (as in Roman/Italian) American (Native)!! What a mess the USA has made of the idea of nationality!

  • Ha! Latin America (Iatlian/Native American) now that's a good one! I guess know also, that Charlize Theron is an African American. She was born and raised in South Africa but is now an American citizen. Thus African American!

  • Mestizo/Metis.......In Canada, there is a distinct ethnic group known as Metis. They speak a language known as Mechif which is a mixture of various indigenous and non-indigenous languages and have roots spreading back several hundred years to the time of the fur trade and the founding of the Canadian Nation. It's a fact!

  • •The term Metis is of French origin, and also is a cognate of mestizo in Spanish, mestiço in Portuguese, and mestee in English.

•In the "Western Hemisphere", this term usually is used to describe someone born or descended from the union of a European and an Amerindian.

♦We are Indigenous people of full blood and mix blood.

☺ "It doesn't matter how much milk you pour into the coffee, the coffee never becomes white."

  • i dont agree native is about a language and culture in indian mexico mestizo and whites dont call themselves indians they say they are white or mixed thier languges and alot of things are simply european there is mixed natives in mexico but the have never abondonde d thier culture also full bloods that have and decided to be nationalcized become mexican mestizo

  • I am an Indigenous man, I am not Latino nor Hispanic. Therefore I will mark Native American in the 2010 Census.

  • Native Americans have always been under-represented. When they were moving us West, many Native Americans hid from Census takers in the woods to prevent being relocated. Later they were called mulattos later colored on census. The descendanta of these people have no idea they are Native Americans today. They identify with either White or Black.

  • @PeruanistaBlog good man. I hate the majority of retards mostly idiots form the USA who think Latino and Hispanic is a race that is native to Mexico. Hispanic means to have some affiliation with Hispania in Spain a term wrongly used and hijacked by ignorant American elitists in the early 20th century.

  • most illegal immigrants arent mestizos. most are indian, or zambos. others are blacks but arent as noticed bcuz most people think they are american. mestizos are here as well. most white hispanics arent illegal immigrants. this is true racism in latin american is driven poor (usually indian, black or mixed with both, mestizos o mulatos) out of the country. this are facts.

  • so hey man just wondering, what about those "hispanics" in latin america with a mixed ancestry like mulatoes and mestizo

these people have curly hair and brown or black, others a blend of both, in some cases the phenotype of many latin american families vary from brown indian phenotype to a blend of both to a pure white phenotype. are these mestizos a new race or half of this and half of that?how would you classify them as? indians?

  • The problem is humans are always trying to clasify everything!

♦Race has been used to justify war, slavery, genocide and general inhumanity.

For the past two centuries, people have tried to prove that race makes humans biologically different.

But scientically, race is only skin deep. Human DNA proves thay we are 99.9% the same. So while our skin colors differ, we're still all one race-the human race.

    Have a good day!

  • yeah this vids about clasifying peeps in the census 2010!! mestizos would they be hispanics or white and indian, there clearly not fully white or fully indian, where do you want mestizos to put there classification in the census!!!?

  • The Indigenous people of the "western hemisphere" is not the only group who seems to be mix.

Let me give you an example. Filipinos were also invaded by the real Hispanics [Spaniards] They carry European names. Their language is the result mix of Asian and Indo-European. They them selves are also mix, but no body claim that they are mestizos, they still identify with an Asian race, not European or Mestizo.

  • And lets's not go anywhere else, just here in the old U.S we have African people. Who are obviously mixed with Europeans as well, but that doesn't stop them from being African.

White people remind Black people that they are black every day of their life.

African Americans carry English last names, they speak English and they were raped also during the time they were enslaved by white people.

Doesn't also make them half white?

Black people choose not to be half white!!!

  • @TDM421tom Mestizo is just a term created by Spaniards to take away our Nican Tlaca (indigenous) identity and whiten our minds. Most of us so called mestizos look and have way more indigenous blood than white blood.

  • so where would you put mestizos, most hispanic illegal immigrants are either cholos (3/4 indians) or mestizo (50 50) or some black and others indians, however most hispanics disregarding illegal population are cholo mestizo and criollo, look up on wiki white hispanics, these are statistics done by pew

  • I wouldn't make the difference.

♦That is the problem people keep making more and more terms to clasify people.

A mestizo is often "denied indian." Not even the white Spaniards were " pure": they had a history of eight hundred years of conquest and being violated by Muslims and the African soldiers .

We are Indigenous of Full blood and mix blood.

•Although a ROSE may be called by any other name still continues being a Rose!!!

  • i never will deny my indian ancestry or culture that is incorporated to the ladinomestizo culture but yet again i cant deny my spanish side its not my fault im mixed i just believe that a new race has arisen the mestizo race and they should be regarded as seperate from the spanish and the indiansyet related to both im a proud hispanicmaya and u do raise a good point we're all humans but in the census as much as i want to put NA im gonna put hispanic hope they change it two put mestizo 1 day

  • Great video with some interesting and enriching insight. However, I'd like to point out the reference you made to ethnic and cultural identity. If Mexicans, Central Americans, and South Americans do not identify with the Nican Tlaca culture...is the whole movement doomed? I mean...most Mexicans and other Hispanics consider themselves mestizos. Isn't it their right to choose their racial/cultural identity...be it Native or European?

  • Howka!

    Thanks for the comment.

While it's true that there is European influences in our lives, our roots are and will always be Nican Tlaca commonly refered to as American Indians.

The so call mestizo is not an identity, there's no people, country, or language that is call mestizo.

    Mestizo ONLY means Mix!

The majority who accept the labels of Hispanic or Latino don't even know the meaning of those labels.

  • mestizo is an ethnic identity in all latin america, separate from indian and white, look up cia fact books, mestizo is a new race !!!!!!!! look up in all latin american statistics!!!!

  • The word mestizo originated from the Romance / Latin word mixticius, meaning mixed.

•There is no country that uses Mestizo as their name of Nationality.

•There is no country with an official language called Mixed/Mestizo.

    Mestizo is Falso Identity!!!

Mestizo is derogative term, was used by the colonizers to divide the Inidgenous populations and the mix blood population.

  • IN guatemala LAdino(mestizo) is a different ethnic group from INdians. If it was deragatory in colonial times. Its not no longer. Ladino is different from indian. Your just mad because you know im more spanish than i am indian. My grandparents are white. My cousins are white. Im a nice blend. Indians in my country are short and different with more indian features. Im not quiche or cachike. You now it already. Menchu is indian. My mom dont look like menchu or any indians shes mestizo,or castizo

  • and so what if you look "white"?

    LMAO!!!!

  • I guess that if you look/are that white, then list yourself as White. But then again, I see Nordic American folks claiming Cherokee all the time so if they can claim Indian, then you can too LOL.

  • LOl true true :)

  • My great grandmother was fulll blooded Cherokee on my mothers side, I also had Cherokee and Creek on my dad's side but it was much firther back. I look white, blonde hair and blue eyes. My brother has dark har and eyes, looks indian. The gense that deal with our physical apppearance are very minor and physical looks should not be used to judge a persons race.

  • Hi. Yeah Mestizo/Mulatto just means mixed. It doesn't define culture like language, food, music, etc. Mulatto/half & half is kind of outdated since some black and white Americans also have Native blood. I even saw where some brown skin Natives were classified as white on an AOL missing kids page. This is all a setup to try and keep everything in black & white.

  • I agree.

  • you call Obama black, dont you? Or Afroamerican... So why arent mestizos Native Americans? Fear for the real owners of this lands and their cultures because the people who currently have the power in America don't have any right to be here and exploit these lands and that they will never admit

  • Barack is biracial just like i am!!!! buddy!!!! he's not full black his skin color and other physical atributes show this!! not only that but he doesnt practice kenyan african culture to the full extent a kenyan would!! Barack Obama is probably more white than black cuz he grew up wit his mom's family side the most!!!!!!!but im still proud Hispanic and Native cuz i cant deny both sides! in my case not on every1's case jus respect people's decision!! not every1 is half/half or pure indian or whit

  • Many of our people in what Europeans call "Latin America", think that they are Hispanic and Latino. You hear these words a lot in the media, but our people from these so-called "Latin American" countries just hear these words on the radio, t.v, and see them in the newspaper, and they start to think that they are Hispanic and Latino.

Our people ignore the truth, and that's really sad because they can't really think on their own, so the media does it for them.

  • what if u have a lot of white in you

  • Of course Mexica are indigenous to North America. The "Central America" distinction is just a away for the Whites in the USA to mentally distance themselves from Mexico.

  • Why in the U.S. the government has a "holiday" that celebrates Columbus Day, and why is it that the so called "North American Indians" get upset about this event, if Columbus never "Discovered" the United States, nor the so called "North American Indians".

If we were two different people, how the peoples of north of the border would get the Corn from the people of what is now Mexico?

  • 1. Mexican is not a race.

    2. Latins are Italian

    3. Mexicans are not native to North America.

  • Mexican is mispronounce!

ø The English called us "Mexican."

ø The Hispanics Called us "Mejicano" (me'He'Ka'no)

ø We call ourselves Mexica [Pronounce Meshekah]

We are one of the Many Original Inhabitants of the "Western Hemisphere" Anahuac.

The "North America is a Euro-American Concept.

We the Indigenous population of this land before We discovered Columbus; we didn't have countries, nor borders or divided it in continents. Because we didn't have those concepts.

  • I hate two things, the name Indios, because one stupid guy confuse this land with India, WE ARE NOT INDIANS, Second this land is not America, is Anahuac or Aztlan. So please do not label our brothers and sister with the name.

  • Aztlan is the home land of the Nauha or "Aztlaners" as the Tenocha/Colhua/Mexica people of Aztlan. Anahuac is the whole North America. :)

Yes I do agree, I don't like the term of Indian on our people to. :)

  • Cuacualtzin(Bello)! Macuilli citlalin(Cinco estrellas)! Proud to be pur'epecha, mayan and also got me some irish from county Louth!

  • ★★★★★

  • Damn!!!!!! You are very good on making videos my brother! 5***** :)

  • I'm very glad you made this vid. I've been getting increasingly worried that our people will not get organized soon & fully enough to be correctly counted in 2010. Last 2 censuses I declared myself "Native American(Mexica[Mexican]& Yaqui)", & refused to say I'm "Hispanic". In 2000 they sent a guy to my home to redo the form for me. I emphatically told him not to put down "Hispanic"But when he asked my race, he, almost shouting & before I could speak, said "white?", & I'm sure he put that down.

  • We need to have demonstrations in front of census offices, to go door-to-door with educational materials, & to get press attention

  • cemanahuac? never heard of it, we the inca people call it abya yala in kichwa, I think the continent might have many names to the native people, we got the name abya yala from the kuna tribe of panama I think

  • Yeah Cemanahuac is the "Western Hemisphere"

Cemanahuac or Abya Yala is perfectly fine.

  • Anahuac is fine too, isn't it? It literally means "between-the-waters"; but

why add cem? Herrera(my homie, de Chiques, Califas), in his book,Nahuatl-English/English-Nahuatl(Aztec), a dictionary & grammar, translates cemanahuac as "world", & in ancient times we used it to mean the Central Plateau & adjacent coastal ares, where Mexican Civilization prevailed. As there were never north or south boundaries to this geo-concept, it's reasonable to expand it's meaning to include the whole continent.
