  • Complete overkill for an HTPC, even by today's standards.

  • with that tv tuner can u still use on demand with time warner

  • HTPC? are you kidding me?? that is just a gaming machine with an HTPC case and a TV capture card, so what? you people just don't get it, honestly.

  • @LemonPieLoL Educate us, Einstein. Ya miserable fucktard.

  • @roflmewaffles well it is simple really, a quad core phenom II and a 4850 is overkill, there is no media content that will even come close to maxing out that hardware. the hardware requirements to run 1080p flash video with solid performance (the most processing intensive task a HTPC will encounter) will only use a fraction of that hardware. a d525 desktop ion motherboard would be more than enough, at the fraction of the cost, running at about 40 watts at a fraction of the cost would be better.

  • @roflmewaffles granted that this was made in 2008, but there were low power/cost solution existing even then.

  • If you got a better video card you didn't need to buy that sound card. Passthrough audio lossless is available in the better video cards.

  • The components are not really "htpc-ish". More like a gaming pc for me. I say overkill

  • The components are not really "htpc-ish". More like a gaming pc for me. I say overkill

  • youd be on crack to put that gpu in an htpc

  • "hd content" i can only imagen...

  • Who cares if it's too much, if he has the money and wants to spend it on this then good for him. Personally I also use my HTPC (e8400, 4gb RAM, ASUS P5Q PRO, 1GB HD4870) for gaming with friends on my nice 50" HDTV.

(btw I had all the parts left over when I upgraded my gaming build so that is why my HTPC is overkill lol)

  • This is a gaming rig.

  • Overkill. But in a good way.

    4850 in an HTPC. Hehehe.

  • This is like buying a Ferrari and never even getting close to the speed limit. :-D

  • hay where did you buy the parts from ?

  • $1000 US for the case?!? That costs more than my entire HTPC put together!

  • @thesmallterror The thing costs more than my entire gaming tower -_-

  • why buy the case? That was expensive 0_0

  • Wow

  • diNovo edge is an outsanding keyboard! They dont sell it anymore though -_- I also got the mx revolution :p

  • @tehrealdjcrossfire they do sell it!

  • @thesmallterror discontinued pal. ring logitec

  • yay another kiwi geek on Youtube!!!! I'm not the only one :P

  • This is more like a mid-high end pc...

  • Love the kiwi accent, a potent combination of adorable and hillarious.

  • Ohh Kiwi Bru

  • nothing wrong with over kill ; ) , good build, even to date still a good htpc setup

  • omg 700w power supply for a htpc, you missed the target

  • 700W is too big for HTPC

  • Overkill is an under statement :)

  • Sweet as, bro.

  • Awesome NZ accent!!!

  • Hey Zeebobnz! Nice build ! good work! Next time you build a htpc make build a intel just for me! Haha and If its a htpc use the evga h55 mobo's I use them all the time in my customer builds

  • that case looks epic mate

  • nice HTPC.

  • OVERKILL...

  • nice build, but it's some serious overkill for a htpc haha, nice!

  • Your electricity bill must be gigantic.

  • Definatly a kiwi...

  • sounds like a r8 twat

  • Sounds like one of these rich englishmen with money to blow.

That hvr 4000 wourk with directtv?

  • if this is your HTPC ........ i wanna c your gaming setup!

  • Nice Job

  • Xonar + Realtek = Best sound cards ever.

  • u sound kiwi lol

  • Since you already own 3! Logitech MX Revolution, you really needed!? to buy another? why not use one of the other ones for this... :S or just use the pad on the keyboard..

  • You paid too much.....

  • Like the comments before, that's wild man.

I'm using a crappy CPU & inexpensive components and it's good enough to double as a LAN/WiFi Media Server.

HTPC or not, gotta at least put some games on that thing.

  • Ohh man that is gaming PC, not just a simple HTPC.. XD

  • too much for HTPC , ,way too much ,, i want to buy that GPU for gaming on my 19" monitor and ur using it for media ,

  • nice 5star

  • Toal price ? Dollars US ?

  • the case alone is $500

  • What did it cost to build this HTPC?

  • Question: I too am looking to build my first HTPC....why did you decide to not only get a Radeon 4850, but an Asus sound card as well? This is my dillema....I thought the 4850 does HDMI output.....so do you really need a seperate sound card?

  • excellent choices on the hardware pal.

  • wow dude, its a gaming/htpc computer, you better be doing PURE HD stuff EVEN THE DESKTOP SHOULD BE MAX AT HD lol and do some gaming too...its both for price of one, your very lucky

  • "AMD Phenom 9950 Quad-Core Black Edition" overkill lol im using a 9600 with 8gb of DDR2 800, ASUS XONAR D2X and a 9800GTX+ 512mb and I can run every game in WINE (Linux user) and compile applications at extreme speeds, and I even find myself running over a hundred applications at once without raising the CPU above 25%, ALSO I use it as a server and a desktop. why the hell would you buy anything better? lol

  • dude this is even better then what im using as a gaming rig. only i got a msi 790x mobo and a amd athlon x2 65 5200+ and dont have the tv tuner and soundcard this is by far not a htcp:P

  • hey were did u buy the

Hauppauge WinTV HVR4000 Quad Mode TV Reciever

    ???

  • Lol, this thing is far too powerful to be named a home theatre pc :P

  • Jesus, that insane for a htpc

  • You better be watching Full HD movies with that beast

  • Yeah, AT LEAST 1080p :). This beast is way too powerful for a HTPC. What's with the 700m PSU? You don't even need a 500 or even a 400!

And why they uber CPU? Even the cheapest desktop Intel dual cores will do you fine.

Just madness! Fantastic yes, but way too much power for JUST TV/Movies/Music.

Gotta have a good sound card though, most important thing besides the TV :-) (and speakers).

  • total cost:]

  • I love you saying, "if ur gonna do it do it well" ^^

  • You should skip the boring intro and get in the action...

  • You arn't using a remote.

  • I am looking to build something like this to put under my TV, with all those fans, is it not pretty noisy? also what do you do for a living, you have far too much money!

  • man this is overkill^_^

    790fx for htpc?

unless you got some money wishing well^_^...

    nice setup^_^.

  • i got the 4670 1 gig version it needs some better cooling i alsogot that same mobo i believe i got a dual core becuase it was cheaper and ive herd some of over clocked it to 3.5 on air.....its a x2 sioomthign cant remeber

  • how much did u pay 4 the case

  • $1400NZ :(

  • @laylowtech $1400 that's mental. NZ here too :)

  • yah just go for 64 bit and are u planing to run blue ray

  • i would go with vista cuz its better for runing movies and u get dx 10.1 if u ever want to play games but i woud go for 4 gb of ram or more but i would go with the EVGA GeForce 9800 GT or the XFX GeForce 9800 GT

  • This guy is a shit talker, I have Vista & it caches up to 1.4gb most of the time, meaning it will never go over 2gb, that was running many addon services, even when I had a ridiculous amount of programs running, never over 1.5gb.

If I was building a new HTCP I would get one of those NVIDIA motherboards with integrated GPU's and use hybird SLI, that is power efficient & powerful for <2005 games & of course media playback, you also get Cuda.

  • awt are u runing vista or xp?

  • LOL good old KIWI lol

love the components amd/ati fan aue?

    -Braydon

  • Hi,

I'm on a budget and wondering what is the best tv tuner card between $80-$120cdn. Thx.

  • can't go wrong with HVR-2200 or HVR-4000

  • @edge160 I'm sure you already got it but as mentioned the Hauppage cards are just fine. They work well.

  • zee so what your noise level like cant see it being silent 700w psu

  • the PSU is quiet enough, the stock fans were noisy as f@%k tho. Fixed now with silent fans :)

  • i just got a zalman hp1000 this is the quietest 1000w psu ive owned to now used to have galaxy and ultra you have a nice rig

  • No Wifi? The souncard doesnt do True HD, and you dont mention a blueray player WTF spending that kind of cash you would think playing Lossless HD audion would be a priority, but I love that case..

  • Gotta LG Blu-Ray/HD-DVD combo :)

Why need wi-fi? its connected to lan and i have 4 access points throughout the house.

True HD, meh, doesn't make all that much difference imho

  • Damn! .... that case cost $675 .... it better serve cola and popcorn for that price ... lol!

  • it does serve cola and popcorn...and chocolate bars its one of the features on the touch screen

  • awesome!

  • hey there just curious where did you get the hauppage wintv-hvr-4000 from?

  • WTF! i opened your video and it linked me to an attack site. WTF!!!!!!

  • omg imagine hookin it up to a hi def projector!!!!!!!

  • :D I would love too... I'm going to build my ultimate man cave one day with a full home theatre with HD projector etc!

  • Nice !! I also like building my own Computer!=) i have one question : How much did all the parts cost you?

  • $2500 give or take a lil.

  • oh ok =) thanx for the info!

  • Sweet HTPC, very powerful for that. Just curious, why did you go AMD?(glad you did though)

  • I've always been an Intel guy but I was able to get the Motherboard, CPU and graphics card real cheap. I'm glad I did go with the AMD because it really is an awesome CPU.

  • haha

"It's a little over the top but hey..."

"A 4870 would be to over the top"

    Nice build, have fun ;)

  • overkill is a understatement lol, but it tis a very nice htpc.

  • Cheers!

Parts 2 and 3 coming today showing the build and the completed system

  • What operating system are you going to be using?!

  • Windows Vista Ultimate (x64) with SP1
