If you are a "real" motorcycle enthusiast than you would know that all locals at the gap would love to stop and help anyone they could. Just because a select few make dumb decisions dosent mean the entire sport bike nation is a bunch of dumb people. I ride there every week, and i ride at my own pace. There are over 100 pull offs so slower bikes can pull aside. Its all about your choices you make while riding. if you are gonna come to the dragon...expect that others are gonna be riding hard.

why do most at etr not really like all of the RUBS and PIRATES. you all don't move over for faster traffic. instead you hold up everyone and force them ride at your pace. neat little thing here, once there are more than 4 in a line and you are going 10 mph under posted speed limit you are by law to move over and let faster traffic by. and lots of times the rubs and pirates are rarely breaking 20mph. there are pull offs for a reason ..USE THEM

Sport bike riders are a hazard on The Dragon, not just to themselves, but most importantly, to other people. A lot of them have wrecked and continue to wreck...which I think is a good thing. Each time I hear about a sport bike wrecking on The Dragon, I figure it's just one less idiot out there.

I ride a Rocket 3 and anytime I am on the Dragon I stay to the inside lane and let the guys on the Sport bikes pass me on the left while both of us are still maintaining our lane. It is a safe pass maneuver if both riders have any sense what so ever.

@TheSBimage well if you think about it... you have to spend time to race prep it... and once you want it back out on the street you then have to undo most of that race prepping. plus its not that big of a difference in safety on the street than the track you can still die regardless.
I do not believe prepping a bike for a track day is not all that involved and a track is 100 times safer than pushing it on the street..... not having the on coming traffic alone makes the track drastically safer than this video and there are many many other reasons.
I am not trying to be rude or anything but "racing" around on the streets is not very bright and is obviously far more dangerous than a $200 track day (five minutes searching YouTube for motorcycle crash will prove the point)

i just dont understand why cruisers ride on this road. i lived 1 hour from 129, and would come down all the time on my 600RR, and get stuck behind a harley or something going slow. they dont handle well, so i dont get it. every cruiser i have seen on this road usually scrapes. i understand the fun of riding a bike, but this road...is not for hogs. go on the blue ridge parkway for that.

One is perfectly safe as double lines are made for cars with poor acceleration, not sports bikes. Yes it's illegal, but I personally don't think it's unsafe as long as it's done approriately - like lane splitting.

Ok. I apologise for the cop statement. They do like to target riders though. In Australia you can lane split if the traffic is stationary - I do it in tunnels where the traffic is moving and can't possibly overtake - so to me that is safe. FYI - I ride a VTX1800 - far from a crotch rocket.

Sorry about my comments, also. I live in Alabama, in the United States, within easy riding distance of the Dragon's tail. The VTX is a great bike. I ride a Kawasaki Mean Streak, but my wife rides a Suzuki Katana. I guess my big gripe here is the feuding between sportbike riders and cruiser riders. I like to enjoy the winding roads, not attack at full speed, but you have to be aware of being run over by folks using the roads as race tracks.

When I rode a sportsbike, I hated cruiser riders, but now I nod at everyone on two wheels (except scooters of course) so I guess I appreciate all rides. I could see why that particular road would cause so many disputes - it would be great fun! We have a road like it here in Sydney and the only time it's worth riding is early morning or during the week - some guys go way too nuts.

I did the Dragon a couple weeks ago in a Lincoln MKX all wheel drive SUV behind a couple of minis. Couldn't get them out of my way. And I did it in style! Have fun and be safe. #1 rule of the Dragon: You don't have to ride it fast, you just have to ride it.

If you are a "real" motorcycle enthusiast than you would know that all locals at the gap would love to stop and help anyone they could. Just because a select few make dumb decisions dosent mean the entire sport bike nation is a bunch of dumb people. I ride there every week, and i ride at my own pace. There are over 100 pull offs so slower bikes can pull aside. Its all about your choices you make while riding. if you are gonna come to the dragon...expect that others are gonna be riding hard.

why do most at etr not really like all of the RUBS and PIRATES. you all don't move over for faster traffic. instead you hold up everyone and force them ride at your pace. neat little thing here, once there are more than 4 in a line and you are going 10 mph under posted speed limit you are by law to move over and let faster traffic by. and lots of times the rubs and pirates are rarely breaking 20mph. there are pull offs for a reason ..USE THEM

I ride a Rocket 3 and anytime I am on the Dragon I stay to the inside lane and let the guys on the Sport bikes pass me on the left while both of us are still maintaining our lane. It is a safe pass maneuver if both riders have any sense what so ever.
Get over it, if you are riding a cruiser of any kind, you are not going to keep up with the sport bikes. You are just slowing the pace, and causing angst between riders.

@TheSBimage well if you think about it... you have to spend time to race prep it... and once you want it back out on the street you then have to undo most of that race prepping. plus its not that big of a difference in safety on the street than the track you can still die regardless.

I do not believe prepping a bike for a track day is not all that involved and a track is 100 times safer than pushing it on the street..... not having the on coming traffic alone makes the track drastically safer than this video and there are many many other reasons.
I am not trying to be rude or anything but "racing" around on the streets is not very bright and is obviously far more dangerous than a $200 track day (five minutes searching YouTube for motorcycle crash will prove the point)

When first considering the Dragon, I thought, well, it can't be that bad if you watch it and don't over do it... then I realized where the REAL danger is here... not the road. but the other riders that have no business on a bike. Coming the other way and hitting me head on. passing and hitting me. passing and causing a car to kill me. these are things you cannot control no matter how good you are. this is where the danger lies on a road like this. dumbasses like the ones in this video.

the one and only thing i have against harleys is the damn noise ,they chop off the muffler ,then make a racket taking off -slowing down and sitting at a intersection . all the while thinking its so cool. setting off car alarms ,rattling windows , not cool just very immature and extremely annoying . this is why south park called them fags . buy a muuffler

I have riden for many years both crotch rockets and Harleys currently I ride a Buell because its a bit of the best of both worlds in my opinion. But we as riders should stick together and not be bashing eachother Its usually a cager that kills one of us. Yea ive done dumb shit on both styles of bikes. But id lend a hand to a brother biker no matter what they ride.

i just dont understand why cruisers ride on this road. i lived 1 hour from 129, and would come down all the time on my 600RR, and get stuck behind a harley or something going slow. they dont handle well, so i dont get it. every cruiser i have seen on this road usually scrapes. i understand the fun of riding a bike, but this road...is not for hogs. go on the blue ridge parkway for that.

Not quite sure of the point of that video. Of course sports bikes overtake on double lines - it happens everywhere in the world. I'd personally get bored shitless on a harley, but maybe when i'm old i'll get one. Until then I love to push it a bit and have fun.

i think the point of the video is just what you said. the original video, it seems, commented that HDs left their lanes and got in the way. this vid. showed the same with the SB passing and wrecks. Plus, 129 is a public road, and passing on blind corners (your ..."fun") can lead to a car or other biker getting killed coming the other way. the fact that you completely missed that point WAS the point of the video. get it?

I do get what your saying. Passing on blind corners and passing on double lines are two different things though. One is perfectly safe as double lines are made for cars with poor acceleration, not sports bikes. Yes it's illegal, but I personally don't think it's unsafe as long as it's done approriately - like lane splitting.

Ok. I apologise for the cop statement. They do like to target riders though. In Australia you can lane split if the traffic is stationary - I do it in tunnels where the traffic is moving and can't possibly overtake - so to me that is safe. FYI - I ride a VTX1800 - far from a crotch rocket.

Thanks dude. I absolutely love it. Coming from a sportsbike though, I need to really be wary of dragging the pegs. It's about the only drawback. Actually the appalling gas milage is another.

Sorry about my comments, also. I live in Alabama, in the United States, within easy riding distance of the Dragon's tail. The VTX is a great bike. I ride a Kawasaki Mean Streak, but my wife rides a Suzuki Katana. I guess my big gripe here is the feuding between sportbike riders and cruiser riders. I like to enjoy the winding roads, not attack at full speed, but you have to be aware of being run over by folks using the roads as race tracks.

Thanks mate - always good to resolve things - especially in anonymity as is the case on youtube.. When I rode a sportsbike, I hated cruiser riders, but now I nod at everyone on two wheels (except scooters of course) so I guess I appreciate all rides. I could see why that particular road would cause so many disputes - it would be great fun! We have a road like it here in Sydney and the only time it's worth riding is early morning or during the week - some guys go way too nuts.

How long does it take you to get there? I come from south Florida, we got a group going in about 2 months about 8 of us local sportbike riders. lol we south Fl boyz don't have twisty mountain roads so we plan on riding fairley slow an safe, especialy since most of us get 1 more minor ticket an they take our Liscence.lol Plan to ride one full day stay at a cabin an party then get up an do it agin for 5 days

Sorry, Lester, but I ride a bike. Lane splitting is not legal anywhere I have lived, or worked as a cop. Lanes are designed for i vehicle to occupy, so if you pass between 2 vehicles, you are obviously in someones lane. If they swerve aand hit you, hey, guess what? It is your fault. But don't worry about that, you'll probably be dead!

I did the Dragon a couple weeks ago in a Lincoln MKX all wheel drive SUV behind a couple of minis. Couldn't get them out of my way. And I did it in style! Have fun and be safe. #1 rule of the Dragon: You don't have to ride it fast, you just have to ride it.

I've also seen footage of baggers running nearly head on into each other, which said footage seems to have been forgotten in this video.

I used to roadrace litre class crotch rockets and have done my share of knee dragging.I now find myself on a full dresser Harley. It's just as fun. It's not about how fast you are, it's about riding your bike and enjoying life. If you want to knee drag around me, so be it. Just remember there is always someone faster.
