  • Is it better to play PS1 games on a PS2 or a PS3 slim?

  • @joewizard100 It will if you use normal AV cords, it looks ok if you try it

  • NEWER PS3s WILL NOT PLAY PSX OR PS2 GAMES.

  • @renoloverxoxo thats funny, because my newer ps3 plays psx games.

  • @joewizard100 Oh really? That's weird. If it can't play a PS2 game then why can it play a PSX game?

  • @renoloverxoxo the ps2 game requires an emulator or something and not every ps2 game is compatible with it, so they took it out of the newer ps3's. Sucks =[ Even the psx games look like crap on the ps3. It doesn't fit to my HDTV at all, good job I own 2 psp's, 2 ps2s, and a psone haha :D

  • @joewizard100 The cord that connects my PS1 to the TV is fucked up so I just use my PS2. They look great on either. I want to get the download version of Final Fantasy 1-9 on the PS3 though.

  • @renoloverxoxo the ps3 versoin is really bad quality compared to ps2/ps1, you might want to check it out before you do. In other words it isn't stretched to the screen properly and looks really pixelated.

  • @renoloverxoxo I bought the PS3 320 gb Uncharted 3 bundle, and it plays PS1 games.

  • <3<3 Metal Gear Solid <3<3

  • then buy a f*****ng ps2!!

  • hey at least you can play it right?

  • Maybe is why PS3 gives more information to the TV, so the errors will be maximized :)

That's not a real problem, since u can buy a PS2 for 2 dollars and enjoy ur games :)

    Herp Derp

  • you don't say

  • i thought ps3 came out 2009

  • @electronicstash lol no.

  • @electronicstash it came out in japan in late 2006. and in the rest of the world in mid 2007

  • I heard the reason why was because PS2 games were selling better than PS3 games (says allot.) So Sony being the money-grabbers that they are made new PS3 that doesn't have an backwards compatibility.

  • yes, they do look much worse on the ps3...unfortunately.

  • @tratorta but pcsx2 is even better when the graphics are maxed out

  • @tratorta

this isnt even a relevant comparison anymore... much of theses graphics issues are fixed and or now looks better on ps3 than ps1. BOOM

  • @bookshelffury well...I was playing a PS1 game on PS3 the other day, Soul Reaver and it looked quite horrible...not as good as I remembered.

  • and this is why i play PC ........ NO NEED TO GET A NEW SYSTEM .... play oldest games on the newest system .....

  • Obviously people have fail to notice the date that this was uploaded.. >_> (December 12, 2006)

  • LOL funny comments!! it was uploaded on 2006..

  • @atomosstampede This fact appears to be lost on everyone else.

  • Clearly bs. My games look better on a ps3. You clearly set the game to record at 480i at hi res and 480p at native res.

  • its called hdmi.

  • did you set the ps3 to wumbo?

  • @Thewasteofwords Nice to see that youre a spongebob fan i am too

    IM A GOOFY GOOBER ROCK

  • im calling BS on this video, i have a 60GB ps3, and my games dont look this bad..u have to rember, these games werent designed to be played on HD TV's thats why they might come out looking like shit

  • well this consoles were make to play on a hd tv with maximun volume in the living room

  • You heard about the FFX HD remake for PSVita and PS3?

  • iv just seen this was maid in 06, so i probly understand :)

  • Can I ask, how did u run one game on 2 systems? im not saying its bullshit but both sides of the screen seem to be the same timeing...???, im not saying its a troll vid, just looks a bit funny for a 2 system play on 1 screen, as in it looks shoped......... good vid but :) DONT GET ME WRONG, im still new to PS3 :)) old school ps1 player WOOT go micro machines....

  • @OMBIC it's called editing.

  • final fantsasy x!!

  • hihi the woman of your dreams

  • Hehe, nice fake vid

  • @CrackLtd its actually real. I had an 80 gig ps3 and the games looked like shit for real. If you think a ps2 game looks bad, play a ps1 game. I immediatley cut it off cuz the graphics hurt my eyes.

  • I think it actually depends on what PS3 model you get. There might be one that runs games fine.

  • I remember playing need for speed most wanted on the ps3 and thinking i cant remember the graphics being this bad.....now i know why!

  • ffx the best

  • the only thing that's different is the lighting

  • If ain't broke, don't replace it. Just hold onto the PS2 for the PS1 and PS2 games and use the PS3 for the games it was intended. I do wish it worked properly as it says is should, but considering I use duct tape to fix virtually everything, I'm not one to complain about something easily remedied by sticking to what I got. I'll get a PS3 one day, when the next gen console comes out so PS3 and it's games will be dirt cheap. No sense burning money in the race racket for the 'latest'.

  • @combatmaster The PS3 came out 5 years ago and you can get bundles for $299 now, I would call that pretty cheap. I take it you don't play many games online, by the time you plan on getting a PS3, a lot of the PS3 games online servers will be down. And besides, you should never look at it like "the race racket". You should look at it like 'what YOU want' and not be so worried about what everyone else is buying. If you worry about what everyone else is buying, then your missing out.

  • @Fish61324 Misinterpretation here, I refer to the race racket as how game consoles try to outdo themselves at every turn. Sad when someone murders someone just for their Xbox. I play online apps all the time, but as for hooking my console to the net, nope I dun do that. That's way too expensive just for entertainment. I bought my PS2 for way less cause I waited, so patience does pay off. I can always catch scenes & gameplay online till I get the games, so I never miss out. I just love leisure.

  • @Fish61324 thats exactly what i done i bought the ps3 for bluray and games as the ps3 bluray is best one going as it will always be updated. I don't play games online much but i like to keep them up to date so the free online play is best for me only down fall with ps3 is most of your friends will have xbox 360 and most of games tend to be on xbox but ps3 does have some amazing games for it.

  • People like you annoy the hell out of me! Who cares if the graphics resolution is a slightly worse? As long as you can play the game, it shouldn't matter

  • FFX is such a good game

  • I played Samurai Warriors 2 Xtreme Legends on the PS3, and the cutscenes looked great.

  • PS3 got his ass handed to him... BY A PS2!!

  • hmz the woman of your dreams

  • easy fix instead playing at 720-1080 just go to settings and lower resolution to 480. games look much better because ps3 then do not resize the graphics to hd size/quality/standards as much TESTED. same like you play ps2 games on ps2 console through vga or scart connection, tv is set to mac res at 480 (vga or scart) and that is how much it can display TESTEAD AS WELL

p.s. it depends also how old the ps2 games are. older games made with lower res than 480 than younger ps2 games

  • Eeew

  • Cant wait till the remade ffx is released on ps3

  • This wants me to play ffx....

  • @HideThePoo They're making a HD version exclusive to PS3.So just buy that then.

  • @ShawShank503 the thing is do you think we wanna buy 10 different things to make our PS3s better? when we have cheaper "game systems" for sale that we can just use? PS2 can read PS1 and PS2 perfectly fine while if they would of just carefully placed in properly in the first place then nobody would need that "exclusive" update

  • @UltimateWeaponEdenX The HD versions actually is a collection. It's three games in 1 package.

It looks better, has Thophy support, online support, and sometimes DLC.

    So I think it's worth $20.

  • @ShawShank503 It's a separate system? they should at least.. ya know did it right the first time?

  • @UltimateWeaponEdenX Yes im still buying it though.

  • when doing an expirment for comparision everything needs to be the same except for the thing your experimenting on. What you change is called an independent variable. What changes because of the independent varibale is the dependent variable. If you have 2 independent varibales you don't know what's affecting what. This experiment was a fail because you used 2 independent variables the systems and the cables. In this case use the same cables. First compare using component then compare using HDMI

  • @CODMW2iownuat You'll pass your 7th grade science class with ease with that knowledge.

  • @gdsm93 I'm in 12th grade so ya, I already passed 7th grade

  • @CODMW2iownuat /facepalm

  • @gdsm93 brushes shoulder

  • I can't wait for the remastered versions of FF X MGS 2 & 3, I recently downloaded Resident Evil 4 & it looked great my PS3 ^_^

  • It was never meant for ps3.

  • Read The Description Before You Comment People This Video IS 5 YEARS OLD This Issue Has Been Fixed With A Smoothing Option In The Settings

  • they have options on the PS3 to smooth out the graphics for PS2 and PSX games.

  • i know the ps2 games looks bad while running on the ps3 but wow!! i woulden't mind that if my ps3 can play ps2 games.

  • Dood it's not like anybody even plays ps2 game anymore and the only reason I watched dis is becuz I didnt kno WTF backwards compability is

  • @rand0mguy97 a lot of people still play playstation 2 games... ps2 systems outsell ps3 systems 5 to 1 still to this day

  • @deadline27 I still do mainly because I got my PS2 about four years ago.

  • @rand0mguy97 judging by your name you are born in 97, therefore you play less ps2 games. A lot of people still miss ps2 games and play them. FFX is a great example..

  • @rand0mguy97 i still play all my old games, some of my favourite games are on older platforms i mean i still play timesplitters from time to time and mgs1-3, and hitman and i'm playing ffx right now on my 60gb ps3 that's why i came to this video...

  • ps3 just uses an odd method of scaling

  • And the funniest thing is, I've got picture quality exactly like that PS3 one on the real PS2 using component cable... (it was the newest SCPH-90000 "slim 2"). Luckily the SCART RGB cable fixed the problem.

  • The fuck you can play ps2 games on your ps3 :O O_O

  • @killerzombiification All First Generation released 80g had a all 3 system compatibility. Look how old the video is.

  • ps2 games look fine on my ps3, play around with the ps/ps2 upscaler and smothing options

  • guess ill kepp my ps2 f or 4ver

  • your totally wrong it doesnt make the graphics the same you idiot you cant take an old game and enhance the graphics with a new system you stupid fuck, arguement over. and they look alot the same so does it really matter.

  • @KontoWashima You can enhance the graphics using a new system, not much but you can. While you cannot change them you can upscale them to HD resolutions which will only improve them on a HD TV. PS2 also had a PS1 texture smoothing option which enhanced the visuals of almost all PS1 games.

Also both versions on this video do not look the same, the PS3 has some nasty jagged edges due to no scaling at the time.

  • @volkte37 no you damn cant, omg your such an idiot. when i play my playstation games on an hd tv they dont look any better kid. such a nerd troll.

  • @KontoWashima That's not saying they couldn't look better. Have you seen Xbox games running on an Xboc 360? They often run upscaled so look better on 360 than on Xbox.

Same with PS1 games, they often look nice when running on a PS2 with Texture Smoothing set to on.

  • @volkte37 yes ive played numerous games and they do not look better at all, try tom clancys ghost recon on a 360 its not very enhanced kid, ps1-ps2 they look better i guess but they were designed that way, ps3 can play those but its not designed to make it look better.

  • @KontoWashima I have played Doom 3 and Dead of Alive on my 360 and both clearly look better on 360 on a HD tv than they would on an original Xbox. Yes there is no more detail, lighting etc but the graphics are certainly smoothed out for HD use.

The point is though, you can improve an old game in some ways with a new system but you can't physically change the actual graphics, textures etc. It is usually just with smoothing or resolution. :)

  • @volkte37 shit dude you never tried component cable for the orig?? supports progressive scan imo runs better then 360 backwards compat lets be honest here

  • Howcome ps3 makes those games have crappier colours?

  • Yh its fixed bacause i still play ps2 on ps3 and never seen any distrotion or pixelized screen like yours.

  • There's only two models who can FULLY play ps2 games on a ps3 (Note that i put FULLY in caps since there are some models who can play a certain % of the ps2 games)

  • Its official there will be backwards compatibility for PS2 games :D

  • @smartbro678 yup, and I hope it's not like yu have to buy them through the psn for them to work, they should release a firmware with the update. If I have the game already i wont want tp buy them again

  • just go to the setting on ur ps3 and fx the rendering to smooth i did that and they exactly the same as they did on ps3. none of my games ever have looked that shitty as this guys says. all my games look like they do on ps2 and ps1 there are no jagged edges like that on any of my games

  • The coloring looks better in the PS3 video, but I can see some jagged edges and distortion.

  • You may have got a bug in your PS3 console, or the game may be damaged... =S

  • Yuna's face says it all.

  • hihi Im your ANYTHINGGIRL. i am new, ask me i give you what you want

  • I played motorcross mania on my ps3 once... looked like pixel art.

  • 1:34

  • damn the patriots

  • damn those ppl who keep buying ps2's there the reason why ps3's are non bc

  • wow that is just AWFUL

  • wait can ps3's play ps2 discs? coz mine dont lol?

  • Change your settings. Tard.

  • Need to go into settings and but on smooth for ps2 games via the ps3 settings, Easy.

  • Mine looks fine.

  • slurrey it looks like that because you can go to settings and go to ps settings choose smoothing for the graphics

  • I noticed those lines on Yuna's face @1:40 were just as bad When I used a component cable for my PS2, Just horrible! But luckily we're getting a HD remastered version of this game ^^

  • At least its still backwards compatible. Unlike another system that decided not to be.

  • and?? at least i can still play them...

  • I remember watching this video years ago, and thinking.. Thank God my PS3 doesn't have backwards compatibility. This crap would have bug the shit out of me. I'm they are coming out with an HD version of FFX now though.

  • OK not trying to be a smart ass-but you know why right? a backwards copm PS3 is just a PS3 that has a PS2 inside, the games werent meant for the newer tech and so they look worse

  • During the 2011 tokyo gameshow They announced that they're going to remake ff10 for ps3 and vita but didn't give a release date yet

  • @Boobooshy0 Of all the games to remake ff10? The freaking fan base has been wanting a different title for years now.

  • What do you expect? Games getting remakes for hd?-.-

  • dude why the fuck would you get angry over this? wow its just something they messed up on. Just play without upscaling.

  • Actually, on my 37 inch Panasonic 1080p TV, ps2 games look atrocious when played through my ps3 60gb. But when I play them through my ps2 they look pretty good. This video is a close example of the difference I see on my TV. I always wondered why this happened.

  • Doesn't matter anymore. Final Fantasy X HD's coming soon.

  • @darknight10000 where did you hear this?

  • @darknight10000 where did you hear that??

  • @BandGeekXP You didn't know? Square announced it at the Tokyo Game Show. They're re-releasing it on PS3 and Vita for the games 10th anniversary.

  • @darknight10000 really?? i hope so it's one of my favorite games!

  • @BandGeekXP Mine too :)

  • I have a PS3 and my PSX games play in their original quality. But mine can't play PS2 games at all. Which doesn't make any sense since PS2 games are DVDs. PS3s are Blu-Ray players, Blu-Ray players can play DVDs (and make the quality of them too)

  • @SquarecowStudios The older 60gb and special edition 80gb models have b/c. Sony stopped making them not too long after they were made and then started making the "HD" re-releases on blu-ray.

  • @davezambrana HD Re-releases of what? Do you mean the games like "Prince of Persia Trilogy HD" and "God of War 1 & 2 HD"

  • I wonder how terrible your television is. On a 42 inch Sanyo in 1080p, PSone and PS2 games are quite nice. Your arguement is null and void due to the fact that this was posted in 2006. Were you that adamant on finding a reasonable arguement on why people should buy an Xbox 360 over a PS3 at the time? Why not just use the ridiculous pricing that bankrupted a third of America? But then again, you couldn't afford either at the time as you had to steal the videos from other sources.

  • um yea..... nether my ps2 games on a ps2 or ps3 look as shitty as they did in your video. fail.

  • your vid is bullshite :D

  • EVERYONE its all good cus mgs hd and ffx hd is coming out so its all good all good

  • the reason y they cant do it is because it plays blu rays, itll only play cds that are videos movies or music. thankfully sony thought ahead unlile Microsoft, they cant play anything but hd cds.

  • I know this is an old upload but if you think about it real quick. In the playstation store they have standard games and HD games. Basicly the reason why they look so much more screwd up on PS3 is because PS1 and PS2 games play in low resolution witch is why they put smoothing and screen game options and set your tv to 4:3 like a normal SDTV youl notice the pixilated graphics combine and look like the orriginal. Anythign els could be based on the video cards PS3 uses.

  • people should play games for graphics. it should always be about gameplay. i have more fun playing FF7 than COD or anyother game out there today,

  • I like the Xbox 360 billion times more. Got lots of rpgs for snes , ps1,ps2. Lufia, Star Ocean, FF etc :D

  • (ps2) Games actually look a LOT better on my ps3, especially since the ps3 can upscale everything to 1080P. The only thing that I do NOT like is that I have found that even though most everything plays fine, for some reason Tekken Tag for ps2 plays slow as crap on my ps3. I was so impressed with the other games though that I sold my ps2. Im happy with my ps3 playing everything though. Except Tek Tag lol :p

  • Unlike the jump from PS1 to PS2, the jump from PS2 to PS3 was a radical change as far as tech goes. They practically have to try to cram in two systems to give you backwards compatibility, which is why it was too expensive and scrapped. Do I wish it had it? Yeah. Will I gripe about it? No. Because if I wanted to play a PS1 or PS2 game, chances are I already got it cuz no new games are coming out for either. So that means I should already have the system too. Hook them all up on a switch box

  • See? This is the kind of stuff I don't get. Sony was the only one to offer backwards compatibility in its PS2 and PS1, as far as consoles go. 360 came out before the PS3 and people were on Microsoft for backwards compatibility like the PS2. Backwards compatibility is an added feature. Like the added feature that they play DVDs or in the case of the PS3, blu-ray. Its not why you bought it and if it is, you are a sad consumer.

  • With the PS Upscaler option, games look totally the same.

I tried that with Kingdom Hearts 2, i plugged in my PS2 and then tried it on my fat PS3, and it's just the same.

    What's the big hassle about?

  • So you people cant play a game cause the graphics arent that good. Wow anybody here played ff6 down

  • @aricente FF6 is one of my all time favourite games.

  • i play xbox 360 and i love FF so i bought FF 7,8 and 10 afew days ago and i knew that buying a ps3 to play ps2 and 1 games wont look as good as they did on their orginal platforms so im going to buy a ps2 tomorrow and i already own a ps1 so im set :D

  • @AHPHazardous PS2 plays PS1 games very well. You are all set. I am jealous.

  • SO THE FUCK WHAT CANT PLAY WITH BAD GRAPHICS

  • Jokes on you they don't even make backwards compatibility anymore :0!!

  • That is pretty shitty my next gen system was an XBOX 360. I still have my PS2 which works great. But the Sony PS3 was a great idea but its still bugged and still expensive as hell. I thought About getting a PS3 someday but seeing this I'd rather stick with my PS2 and my 360.

  • It can play ps 1 games too, like MGS 1 of the best games ever.

  • Welp. I'm ready to start a new ffx game.

  • ps3 bad ?

  • Sad attempt of the 360 fanboys, too bad your beloved box has a higher fail rate than any other system. 300+ dollars for something that broke on 60% of the people who bought it...u mad bro?

  • @arkayen666123 I have had mine for 8 months and no RROD or any other issues you should not judge a console which you don't own. When the 360 first came out RROD was a serious issue but as the time went on Microsoft updated it and released different versions so RROD is not that much of a problem for the 360 now. You like the PS3 and think it is better thats ok I also think PS3 is slightly better because of B-Ray but its not fair for you to hate on the 360 when you don't even have it.

  • @arkayen666123 Besides this console war thing is pathetic, pointless and a waste of time.

  • @fan977 Yes you are right, I was just more impressed by the ps3. That's my opinion though, as far as my statements about the 360, I am going off the real statistics, and my personal experience as well. EVERY person I have ever known who bought a 360 had it RROD on them.

  • @arkayen666123 60% of the bought xboxes get RROD?

shiw me the numbers, when 360 was launched it got RROD bcause of a malfunction in the transformer still it only happenned to about 10% of the 360's when microsoft went out and told everyone about the problem and offered full replacement for all the RROD'ed 360's. why would they let it go up to 60% now for no reason without doing anything? RROD has different stages on the 360 1: overheated, 2:not sure 3: 360's DEAD.

  • @eddson11 Tell me then, why has every person I know who bought one had it fuck up on them within a year?

  • @arkayen666123 maybe because you only know 1 person, or because they don't know how to handle a console, or they're just plain idiots and maybe, just maybe a LITTLE bad luck is involved. I've had a 360 from the first line of production for 3 years, never ever had a problem with it, My friend has the elite, he's never had a problem with his for 2 years. 3 of my other friends has the original 360 but added a harddrive, they've never had problems either.

  • @eddson11 Wow, damn, no smartass I know more than 1 person, some of them are rather anal about treating their games like gold. I am willing to believe there was just a few shipments of shitty products where I am from though.

  • @arkayen666123 That might be the case. and also there are 3 different stages of RROD and you can fix it yourself by different methods. (however the DIY fixes doesn't always work) and I kinda like the RROD system cause then you'll know what's wrong with you'r console. not like PS3 or a regular computer that just shutsdown and wont work for about 5 mins upon overheating.(don't get me wrong I'm no fanboy I just simply like the 360 a bit more but PS3 does have a bit better graphics in some games)

  • @eddson11 Fair enough, sorry if I came off as a 360 hater, I am willing to admit it is a decent system, I am just not willing to defend something that I have seen so much failure with hardware wise. I just prefer the PS3 library too, since I am not a fan in any way of FPS and driving games, or sports, and that is what the 360 has more than anything.

  • @arkayen666123 I think the PS has more racing games xD and xbox more FPS and adventure and stuff goes towards the nintendo consoles. but ofc all 3 systems have all kinds of different games, just more of some then others :P

  • almost forgot all the fighting games for PS xD there is clearly a majority of fighting games for PS I even had to get some emulators for my xbox 1 just to play some decent fighting games cause they where just made for PS2 xD

  • @eddson11 I'd like to see arcades make a comeback honestly, I miss gaming being in a big neon lit area with hundreds of badass sounds all at once.

  • @arkayen666123 Yeah! :D but it would be weird playing like CoD or something like that in a place like that xD

  • @eddson11 Not true at all, people need to just think a bit more creatively with their designs.

  • @arkayen666123 same, but I found out arcades only really died in the west. Over in the east they still pump them out and they've upgraded with the times. We've been robbed! Lol.

  • @arkayen666123 I miss completely SLAYING people on my Mortal Kombat Arcade games. I was in 3rd grade beating the shit out of grown ass men stepping up .... Babality that bitch, brung them down to my level hahahah your right man nothing beat the arcade as a youngsta coming up.

  • i actually like the color tone better on the ps3. less yellowish

  • @kiminova I always wondered why PS2 had such a yellow tone to all collours in the games, It was really rather irritating xD

  • This to pss like gow1,2 NOW !!

  • lmao i played final fantasy 7 on my ps3 and it actualy turned out better

  • its cuz you're you the hdmi cord on a game that's not meant to run in hd you fucking retard. Lol. You're a dumbass.
