CL175 Racebike project part 3: timing and new parts

Man, doesn't it suck when you bring all your packages home, try them on your bike and they don't fit? I've had the same problems with my 360. Those are the perils of buying on ebay, but you'll get through it. P.S. here's a tech tip, the best way to remove rust (although slow) is with oxylic acid. It's a powder available one ebay that's mixed with water. It removes only rust, is mild to the skin, and is great especially the inside of gas tanks and soaking rusted bolts,etc..

hey, im 16 and broke as a joke, but i have a passion for motorcycles and i wana buy one that is in OK conidtion for under $1000. im ok with doing some minor restoration, but nothing too serious, any bikes u think i should search up on craigs or ebay for cheap????? plz help me out

Great vid, my "running project"  needs some work but im not sure where to start. I'm gona clean everything up first since it's been in storage for about ten years. The front brake and carbs are my biggest concerns at this point.

Maybe you could put a note on the video or remove that part honnestly, some people will watch this, set their timing wrong and mess up their bikes. Cool videos though :)

Right, you did set it up way advanced!!! The F mark is supposed to be the mark when setting the timing. As the revs go up, the advance mechanism will advance the timing 40 degrees to the mark you just used. This is probably why you made so little power on the dyno and blew the engine during the race.

I think you set the points about 40 degrees advanced! They should open when the F mark on the flywheel passes the index mark on the case.

i so envy you for having a CL that's so beautiful. take good care of it! i own two CL's, both of which are projects, and neither look nearly as good as that!

i do have a tip for you though... if you'll be repainting the tank, you might consider blasting the crevices where the badges mount and then priming and puddying them so they can't rust further (i'm sure they're rusted.) you can have custom badges made that look like they're screwed in, but are really held on with amazingly strong adhesive. (this is my current project for one of my CL's.)

No, bodywork is for later. I'll be concentrating on getting it running and race-legal. Pretty comes later. :D
