This was and remains the best sitcom ever made in the English language. Satire is needed by every culture to understand the complexities of cultural identity. A nation with no recognised satirical form will end up taking itself too seriously & be prone to political extremes such as dictatorships. Satire does not change because a nation does not change. It has to be said that satire is what the British do best.

By far the most overrated series in the history of british comedy. The stupid, pompous music, the opening titles which were apparently meant to be "satirical" and "ironic" were just plain stupid. And then of course Sir Bumphrey the gay character also trying to be ironic and funny.

Paul Eddington starred in couple of Benny Hill episodes and later when he found fame in Yes Minister, he didn't allow those old Benny Hill episodes to be shown.

Its a sad thing that Paul Eddington had Skin Cancer later in his life. I was watching one of his interviews and he looked too weak and sad, and said "I never look at myself in the mirror anymore". What a moment! Imagine, after all these years, of acting theater to face such a dreadful diesease with no cure, really touching, and sad.
