As a recovering addict of 2 and a half years, I know that seeing what has "yet" to happen can help keep clean people clean, but rarely helps GET people clean, and that those are the people who need help most. I go to meeting and I find that helps me even more than watching TLC.

I was dicussing marijuana abuse and how although I think it's good that show's bring these subjects to light. It's a huge detriment because so much can turn into propaganda or even worse false stories for entertainment. Plus dealing with an addict is different than any tv story I can gaurantee you from experience.

Watched my kid like a hawk, trying to keep him away from all illicit things. I quit years ago for the family and to set the example. Then I found a video of him and his friends online smoking a hooka. When I confronted him with it he said "Don't worry abot me dad, I'm clean, that was just fruity tobacco and molasses. I already went through the drug and booze thing years ago in middle school". I was shocked to hear that, I thought I had done a good job! NEVER let your guard down with your kids!

Doing drugs is for pussies, end of story. Drugs are for people who either cant handle life because they were born with a sliver spoon in their mouth or for people who want to be cool. I have no sympathy for those who get addicted to drugs or alcohol.

try to see how long u can go without doing it .get a calander,put an x on the days u smoke when u have less x's in a month u are definately doin good i have zero x's last month well see how this month goes. next year.then hopefully break away from it completely.u know what helps too erase ur dealers phone number ......

i was addicted to meth at one point and shook it off, n now i only smoke weed,,i have the occasional hey u wanna get lit friend but i just tell them im busy or make something else,meth is a bitch u can never shake off...even i know im not in the clear if someone was to give me a loaded pipe of meth and a new bic lighter chances are id probably hit it but talking about it definately helps sometimes ....i just try ignoring it like its not there,,its hard to stop doin it.

TLC is like someone that hangs out with the popular people although they dont have much going for themselves. If they see something in trend... they will have to jump on it. One thing that i dont understand with this terrible channel though is the little people popularity. It blows my mind.

@fraudster23 a lot of the time though the treatment will be free if they allow someone to film them.... so it could just make it easier for people to get help. and what an inspiration to see it happen and to know it is possible

@jellybellylambam That's true, I just think it's sad that one would be in a position that treatment would only be available through prostituting oneself for television, especially while one was under the influence and unable to fully understand or appreciate how the airing of such a show might effect their lives in the future. I would just like to see more help without turning addicts into 21st century freak shows for other people's amusement.

@fraudster23 I do agree with this. Fortunately there is a bit of good that comes through it by showing others who aren't or just are getting addicted what it does to people. Showing their grief and horrors will help them realize if they haven't already. Sure as hell keeps me clean XD

As a recovering addict of 2 and a half years, I know that seeing what has "yet" to happen can help keep clean people clean, but rarely helps GET people clean, and that those are the people who need help most. I go to meeting and I find that helps me even more than watching TLC.

It looks similar to Intervention, because it is a blatant copy, so it is the other show "Hoarding" is just like Hoarders.
TLC should stick to their niche : multi-kids families, cake makers, little people and tattoo shops.

I was dicussing marijuana abuse and how although I think it's good that show's bring these subjects to light. It's a huge detriment because so much can turn into propaganda or even worse false stories for entertainment. Plus dealing with an addict is different than any tv story I can gaurantee you from experience.

Just because it is something I would never do, does not mean that I put down somebody who does. Considering that a large majority of addicts are abuse survivors...well they are trying to get in a few happy moments. No one thinks one will become an addict.

Watched my kid like a hawk, trying to keep him away from all illicit things. I quit years ago for the family and to set the example. Then I found a video of him and his friends online smoking a hooka. When I confronted him with it he said "Don't worry abot me dad, I'm clean, that was just fruity tobacco and molasses. I already went through the drug and booze thing years ago in middle school". I was shocked to hear that, I thought I had done a good job! NEVER let your guard down with your kids!
