  • Oh, and according to them, they were 100% funded within 8 hours. Eight Hours. That's all.

  • I was wondering if you heard of the Kickstarter project by Double Fine heads Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert to create an adventure game. They asked for $400,000 and got over 2.4 MILLION dollars so far, enough to make 6 of these games.

    kickstarter(.)com/projects/66710809/double-fine-adventure

And yet the Triple-A studios aren't willing to shell out the money for adventure games even though there's clearly a demand for them.

  • So you say adventure games have the quality of NY Times best sellers. Just to let you know, Twilight is a NY Times best seller. It just means what sells the best and says nothing about quality. It's purely statistical.

    time(.)com/time/photoessays/10questions/0,30255,1833919_1752991,00(.)html

Just thought I'd point that out.

  • @CrazyCheeseMagee So what you’re saying is that gexup is not allowed to make a comparison to adventure games to NYT best sellers because Twilight was one of them? You’re depicting Times for just one series that you don’t like while there's SO many of them that offered the greatest stories ever told like Blankets, Green Mile, Harry Potter, and thousands more. Something tells me that you should read a book if you want the best story cause games abandoned great stories for action

  • you should so one on Spooky games like Luigi's Mansion or Nightmare Before Christmas Oogie's Revenge which are Halloween based games that are family friendly but can still make you jump (those ghost appearing in Luigi's Mansion always make me jump)

  • The first game I ever played was freddie fish.

My sister was like 7 and she got stuck. I was like 3 or 4 and couldn't talk yet,but I kept pointing at what my sister should do. When she listened to me it actually turned out I had everything right xDD.

  • Let's not forget that there's some indie developers out there making adventure games.

  • good adventure games are rare to find these days... although when they do come along...they are gems... This video was nostalgic...

My fave: Sins of the Father ... epitome of the p&c ...

  • Isn't heavy Rain an adventure game?

  • I was disappointed I dint see any clips of disc world noir in there. Its certainly in my top 2 or 3 with grim fandango

  • whats music @16:32 ?

  • Whats the game at 06.02?

  • Have u played 5 days a stranger...

That's my Favorited point and click adventure

  • I've played I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream when I was 8. And it changed me... On the other hand Blade Runner and The Last Express are possibly the best cinematic adventure games I've ever experienced.

  • i just finish Machinarium and i realy love it and now i am searching for more games like that, i am fucking borde of FPS..... But the most of the adventure games came out before 2008... anyway if u know anything good pls tell me

  • fantastic video

  • Shenmue 2 was released, I'm staring at my copy for xbox right now!

  • @gexup review my fave game shenmue? Its a game that involves fighting task and exploration and a very suprising plot twist. I seriously suggest you play this because i think this would be a great game for you

  • yeh i never really warmed to Myst either.

  • Say Gexup. What is your take on games such as Shenmue, Shadow of the Colossus or the 3D Zelda games like Majora's Mask?

  • Day of The Tentacle is by far my favorite game!

  • "Without a setting, story and characters there wouldn't be any point to going through an adventure game."

You summed up why I hate Myst.

  • @thejobloshow Same here. Myst has got to be the most overrated game I've ever played

  • Okay, I officially love your videos. :D

  • What about the darkness

  • Adventure games were really complexed and because back then people couldnt go to the internet to find answers, they had to think really hard to continue the storyline. but cant you agree some of the puzzles were hard and annoying. like in "the day of the tentacle" you had to send bloopers from the future to the past and then make a costume to the future again

  • You have a very good point about FP Shooter games.

  • Where are FMV adventure games.

  • top 10 adventure games please!!

  • i am gonna play alundra again

  • you forgot to mention exploration at the part where you were talking about the things that make adventure games adventure games. exploration is even more important then puzzles.

  • @mkocja5a Then how can you explore without unlocking the puzzle? Puzzles are there to keep you from exploring and reaching to your goal.

Not to mention that there are other video game genre that "have" exploration like 3D Platformers, FPS, and more. So really, to say that adventure games are the only genre that has exploration is irrelevant.

  • @gexup good point, but platformers allso have puzzles :P le's just say that both puzzles and exploration are the main focus of adventure games :)

  • @mkocja5a Cheers ^^

  • @gexup :)

  • Nice video.

What are the names of the games at:

    6:33 & 7:31 ?

  • @djscorpion1 06:33 glass rose(ps2) 07:31 runaway a road adventure(pc)

  • @bigfoxxiii

Thank you very much. Never heard about Glass Rose before. Gonna check it out.

  • OH MY GOD DID YOU JUST USED A MUSIC FROM MAFIA: LOST HEAVEN?

At 16:34 Okey Saliery sends his regards

  • My best adventure game I have ever played is Grim Fandango. Music, story, characters are so amazing!

  • guys HELP. i have just bragged to my friends that COD is way too overated. they say you have to play it to say it is overrated. true or false?

  • @Hentarded False. Tell them that if you've played any FPS or seen an action film then you've pretty much played CoD too, since it just borrows the most basic gameplay elements from any FPS, and cliches from action films. Also, tell them Activision is helping kill the gaming industry by releasing expensive rehashes year by year, all based on 30+ year old cliches - not to make any landmarks innovation - just for more and more money. Lastly, the online community for CoD is among the worst.

  • hi gexup dreamfall spoiler! 06:52 07:01

  • very nice video BUT you forgot the Full Motion Video (FMV) adventure games, like the Tex Murphy series, the Ripper or the Black Dahlia.

  • What's the song in the background called starting at 7:42 ?

  • @Waluigi71 funny you asked that as i just love this and listened to it as its the intro to monkey island 3

  • please review monkey island please......PLEASE

  • @TheWalcast It's the Neverhood

It's hands down the most "Creative" video games I've ever played.

  • gexup l was wondering what is your favorite adventure game?

  • @GamingWorldGuy Good question

I love Grim Fandango, Gabriel Knights III, and the Neverhood

But my next two reviews will be based upon my favorite Adventure games that does have as much recognition, so stay tuned, my friend =)

  • You are the best video-game reviewer on youtube, just in my opinion. You have the passion and knowledge. Are you working for Video-game industry? I would not be surprised!

  • FPS shooters are so overrated.

  • professional* sorry

  • gexup, you give every detailed info of these games and thats what makes you so professiona

  • @AQreview: yep, i prefer Heavy Rain and any platformer game than CoD.

  • 17:10 I'm 13, and I would gladly play Secret of Monkey Island over another rehash Call of Duty FPS. My friends at school say that CoD is their favorite game of 2010, but I loved Heavy Rain much more. I know games aren't about story, but I love to play a game like Sam & Max because I can sit back, laugh at the cutscenes, and figure a way to solve the puzzles. The swiss cheese part of Episode 1 was the most creative thing I've seen in a game! And that was just the beginning of the game!

  • hey gexup what genre are ico & shadow of the colossus in cuz i thought they were action adventure too?

  • my favorite game of all time is dreamfall

and i cant weit for next dreamfall game!

  • Grim Fandango is my favorite game of all time! An absolute masterpiece! This video is very well done and very god!

  • @gexup you forgot Sony's god of war there is a lot of puzzle in just one action /adventure game .

  • cant wait for acction adventue

  • How... HOW DO YOU MANAGE IT!? To put in emotional stuff like waning franchises and issues of modern society while remaining viewable for all audiences, in a genre review!

    You sir, are a genious

  • Maniac Mansion FTW!!!!

10:44 Your credibility is safe (it already was to me since the start, as I have watched many of your vids but I feared that you would miss that)

13:00 Does anyone know that game? It seems familiar but I can't place it...

    14:04 BOMBERMAN HERO MUSIC FTW!!!

  • @frostare

    13:00 is The Longest Journey

  • @thecrazystu Thanks!

  • Sometimes puzzles can be just badly done.

  • By the way, if it wasn't for TellTale releasing the Sam and max games AND the latest Back to the future games... I probably wouldn't of realized how fun Adventure games actually are.

  • I love the feeling of seeing your video's in my subscription box.

  • you know what you should do, review the myst trilogy (MYST, RIVEN, and EXILE) theres a fourth one too but i havent played it and i dont know anything about it, but if you want........

  • Hey gexup can you do a gernre about RPG's?

  • does Dragon's Lair count as adventure?

  • Pajama Sam?!

  • amazing and thanks for taking my requests

  • What game is at 6:30 and 12:34 and finally at 13:30 ?

  • @thecrazystu 06:30 the game is rose glass for ps2 made of capcom

  • @bigfoxxiii

    thank you for that

  • GREAT EPISODE!

  • Great sum up of adventure games!

  • Gexup is back with my favorite genre of games!

  • If you love andventure games you should get 9 doors on the DS or hotel dusk!

  • Excellent job dude. Lot's of top-grade titles. I also found it interesting that you borrowed footage from that Discovery Channel programme. =D Saw a lot of games that I recognised which was great. Keep up the good work.

  • @HandeToon Thanks a lot, man. Your Top 10 Adventure Games video inspired me to do an episode on this genre! ;D

  • @gexup Thanks for the recognition. And may I say, this and your Platformer video are my favorites that you've done so far. =D

  • Would Lifeline for the PS2 fall into your adventure games category? I've never played it, but it seems to be a "Full 3D Graphic Adventure" with most of the input problems from the text adventure sub genre since you play the game with the PS2's microphone instead of the controller.

  • is zelda an adventure game?

  • @HyperBlob1 ah, doesnt matter, i saw the end

  • Great Job Gexup

When i was little, My favorite adventure games were like Freddie Fish and Pajama Sam

  • @MrMMO97 I played a lot of Humongous Entertainment's games too, back then.

  • Great job Gexup :)

    Keep up the great work

I still need to upload tht Q&A

  • The intro of this always makes me wanna play Gex 2 or 3

  • There's a reason why there are no dislikes

  • cool

  • 0:30 HALO!!!

  • thanks you gexup for reminding me about freddi fish :DDD

  • nice to see this, because 3d platformers is my 1st favorite game genre, but this is my 2nd favorite

  • What is the game at 3:42?

  • @GamingWorldGuy

gexup actually mentions the name, it's the Neverhood

  • Wow dude. Cool video. I didn't know all that stuff. Good job

  • hey gexup .do you like little big planet?

  • About King's Quest - TellTale will make a new one!

  • Your videos are awesome.you are a true gamer, who knows what games are good

  • @OldClassicGamer ditto

  • You know not all FPS games are just mindles games, I mean take a look at halo or half live 2, thay whant us to look at the game taticly in stead of runing in whith a gun killing evry one that moves or have moved aswell as FPS games like left 4 dead 1 & 2 have deep story lines and grate puzzles. So, i recomend that you play these games before you make coments.

  • @simboyc100 STFU, Halo and Half Life 2 are the same shit as to all other FPS games; just shoot every bad guy. Plot twist and fucking cliff-hangers does not qualify as a 'good story" PERIOD! Read a book and play an adventure game, then you can speak.

Calling Halo & Half Life a "good story" is like saying Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a good movie. Judging by the way you spell, you must be a kid because the word "they" is not spell "thay." Fuck sake, read a book and get smart, dumbass

  • omg used to play the HELL out of freddi fish and put put!

  • Wow! Over 20 minutes?! Man, this is awesome!

And this has to be the BEST episode of Video Game Genres ever!

It sums up everything that needs to be said about Adventure Games!

  • What's the music at 1:24? I recognise it but I can't put my finger on it.

  • @Enardah Nevermind, Monkey Island, just remembered.

  • @Enardah It's the theme for Secret of Monkey Island, true classic of adventure games

  • @Enardah

Sounds like the opening theme to The Secret of Monkey Island

  • @thecrazystu

oh I see you already figured it out nevermind then

  • Still feels like yesterday that Grim Fandango came out.

  • what you said in this entire video is pure poetry you proved that not every game needs a chainsaw, mindless violence, or sexual innuendos to be a great game and I respect you for that

  • another great vid gexup and I hope you carry on the video game genre series. will you be making a "top ..." adventure games? thanks you earned a thumbs up xD

  • @colourblindkid96 OOooohhhh.....

You see that's the problem. I would LOVE to do a Top 10 Adventure Games, but one of my favorite YouTubers has posted his Top 10 Adventure Games and there is no way possible that I can do a better job than he did because it is literally the BEST Top 10 List I've seen on the internet and I respect him a lot.

    watch?v=E74icaJP26A

He's called Hannu "The Hande" Makinen and he has a gold mine of great vids

  • @gexup no problem i'll check it out, btw you mentioned COD black ops but the funny thing is you can actually play Zork which is a text adventure game as an easter egg, i personally have never played it but it's a cool piece of trivia to know.

  • Adventtures games are very fun, cant wait for the next video game genre.

  • Before you comment, please don’t ask “Where’s Heavy Rain?”

I don’t consider that game an Adventure Game; I see it as an “FMV” video game

So thank you for your understanding if you wonder why

  • @gexup

I see what you are getting at with Heavy Rain, but can you explain why you believe Indigo Prophecy is an adventure game? It isn't surprising that both games are very similar, the only big difference I can recall is the quick time events and interacting with objects were more complex in Heavy Rain but still similar to Indigo Prophecy.

  • Yes! Totally worth the wait man! Fantastic video and glad you made it over the 15 min limit! I have a really bad cold but you just saved my day :D

  • @Enraged10 Your welcome, my friend

This video took me a full week of work to do

Each time I took a break studying for my midterm, I spent a much time on working on this project

I was worried about putting this video into two parts, but thank God, YouTube has given us over 15 minutes of video post. Thank you very much for your support, I appreciate it ;D

  • @gexup no prob :)

  • hey gexup anychance doing a review on rayman plz, i love tht game n would love to see a review :)

  • @2003jackb He has talked about the series allready, just search and you'll find it :)

  • Man, when i saw the fish game, (I forgot the name) i got a nostalgia attack

  • @comicbookgamer18 That game was Freddi Fish.

And believe it or not it's not, it actually is my VERY first Adventure Game =)

  • @gexup DUDE!!!! SAME!!!! i would have never expected anyone today to talk about them(cause they were meant for kids) and i flipped out when i saw that

  • @gexup that was my first adventure game as well, and strange enough, I still have a copy of that game

  • @gexup Mine too!
