  • D:

  • Was Mr.Frog and Ms.Mouse in coitus at 1:01?

  • This is probably my earliest memory of TV EVER. I had to be like 3 or 4 years old when I first watched this and I FINALLY found it again!

  • This used to depress the crap out of me as a child.

  • When I sing this to my children, I add a verse at the end: "The snake went BLECH and spit them all out, uh huh, uh huh, the snake went BLECH and spit them out, they were so happy that they danced about, uh huh, uh huh"

It's too sad for them otherwise!!

  • This is the only version of the song I care for.

  • Uncle Rat looks more like a guinea pig.

  • This is a cute video.

  • Miss Mousie and Uncle Rat have very pretty eyes.

  • reminds me of boards of canada, but not electronic, and more convential haha

  • Thanks for uploading

  • my kindergarten teacher sang this to my class 15 years ago and had kids perform it too. I had to be the spider... _-_ They thought it was funny because I hate/d spiders.

  • Watch this stoned. Do it.

  • recalls seeing this when i was 5 on TV lol

  • Oh how sweet and sad

  • the moth got away!

  • Beware the Flea!!!

  • There's a rare sequel where the snake marries a platypus (mmm-mmm).

They get a reality show and are eaten by the tabloid press (mmm-mmm)

because the snake had a badger for his mistress. (mmm-mmm)

Next, the badger runs for Alaskan governor & loses to a lemming in a dress (mmm-mmm)

who can see Santa's workshop from her hole. (mmm-mmm)

next, the lemming wants to marry a stinky mole (mmm-mmm)

    etc. etc.

  • this toon creeped me out as a kid when it was on teletoon

  • At least the moth got away!

  • very late 70's early 80's watched this about 15 years ago.

  • I'm going to be very honest, I did NOT know that's how this song ended. D: My teacher always cut it off after they got married and they just went down the river to live happily ever after. XD Good Lord.

  • damn this takes me back.

  • I used to watch this on tv as a child all the time hahaha man i love it. what a great song

  • I will never get tired of this song. I have been watching this vignette since I was a little girl and I still whistle the tune on my walk to work and use it as a nice, slow song to sing babies to sleep.

  • @TheBigBluePachyderm I had seen this vignette once 21 years ago but when I typed in NFB,I found it again.I never knew the title of it,nor did I realize that several other artists had covered it as well long before this.

  • I never noticed before until now that the butterfly escaped.

  • @TheBigBluePachyderm I suppose in a twist of irony that there was a happy ending because they all died quickly when swallowed by the snake.

  • This video really has nothing at all to do with Canadiana whatsoever, but I suppose it was created for us Canadian kids who weren't yet in school or on Saturday mornings.

  • What I didn't realize until now is that this song has been covered by the likes of Elvis Presley,Tex Ritter, and Burl Ives.I thought it had only been exclusive to this vignette.

  • Oh my God,I haven't seen this vignette in 21 years.

  • Canadian culture seems to have this strange air of gentleness & pacifism, but also surreality & odd whimsy. At least the children's media does, much moreso than in this country.

  • @oHelmslyo Canada is pretty fantastic =)

  • wow I found it, this is a video I watched when I was young. Thank you so much for having it :)

  • Timeless Classic! Canadiana at its best.

  • what a great song, i'd definitly approve this for my children over some of the other garbage around

  • @weeda72 Since I don't have any children of my own, (I teach), may I approve this song for your children too?

  • the best part in the song is 3:26 when the spider swallows! hahaha goa goa!

  • o canada was very trippy! =)

  • i really didn't expect that ending.

  • Quite endearing

  • Not a patch on uncle pesco's version

  • Is there any versions of the song that ends on a happy note for Mr. Frog and Ms. Mousie? What can I say? I'm a fan of weddings.

  • @EdBoy1215 I've looked up many versions of this song and they all end with either one or both characters being eaten by something. One has them eaten by a cat during the wedding celebration.

  • Didn't see that one coming!

  • What a downer. :-(

  • I haven't seen this in years. Wonder why its not on the NFB's portal?

  • It never bothered me before, but I think it's REALLY creepy when they get swallowed by the snake and you can STILL hear Frog's gun going off. That's just spooky.

  • The moral of this story is:

Snakes Don't agree with inter-species marriage

  • The dish in the lower left corner of the table cloth at 2:44 looks like a cooked frog. Interesting.

  • @Wex1117 it's a cricket

  • LOL!!! I always thought it was a grasshopper! :D

  • So curiously addicting.

  • love that singing but how can a frog marry a mouse? wierd

  • The same way a frog can marry a pig (Kermit & Miss Piggy). Besides since when did frogs roar?

  • very good i loved it

  • I played 3:32, muted the volume, and played the chorus of the song, "I'm On a Boat!" by The Lonely Island. It is so funny!

  • wow this takes me back, kinda freaked me out as a child

  • Boards of Canada

  • That's where they got their band name from, pal.

  • without my uncle Rat's consent I wouldn't marry the president!

  • @pionteg Lady mouses weren't liberal then,I take it.Her father must have been dead.

  • I love this!! I remember it from childhood. But the ending seems WAY MORE disturbing now, than it ever did before! LOL

  • I wonder where he kept the ammunition?

  • OMG THAT WAS A TERRIBLE ENDING D=

  • I know. I loved how the song is sung, but it's kind of depressing to watch a new marriage end that way...eaten by a snake. hope he gets heartburn from Froggie's pistol. hee hee.

  • I love the style of this.

  • i remember this from when I was a kid. Oh the NFB from the 80's rules!

  • Disturbing how the frog keeps firing his gun at any opportunity . . . not that it did any good against the snake!

  • Haha! 1998 forever, man! They used to play it lots on Teletoon.

  • I'm just luvin' ur vid .......... :D

  • OMG i was searching for this video for like evr , thank you so much for putting this up . :) i always loved watching this went i was little. although i never did like the ending.

  • i remember they played this on YTV all the time when I was kindergarten! I had'nt seen this since then--thanks for posting! :)

  • i take it inter species marrige isn't illeagle in canada then. I fuckin hate england.

  • Well, I've met a number of English people here (retirees, mostly), they all seem like fairly decent, tolerant, folk. Can't honestly say I've ever inquired about inter-species marriages; I suspect that is a little more fringe than most Canadians contemplate. Perhaps you should consider emmigrating from the UK to somewhere you don't hate? Ciao!

  • i've done the opposite tbh mate,

born in canada raised in merry old england wanna go back at some point tho :)

  • interspecies marriage is most certainly illegal in canada... keep in mind this is a cartoon... seriously...

  • @moojam It's generally frowned on, but it's pretty common in the deep south of Canada.

  • Check their website again, looks like the DVD is available now.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this. Seriously, if anyone knows where to order this on DVD or something, tell me. I was hoping it would be on the DVD for the National Filmboard's best, but it's not.
