  • is this played on one of the episodes of sailor moon when michiru is with haruka and usagi catches her playing this tune am i right lol

  • Those who say that her playing is bad, wrong bowing and stuffs, can you play better than her? Action speaks louder than words. Post a vid of yourself playing this piece and we will judge. As if you know the instrument violin better than she does.

  • @mangoooooify I'm not a professional violinist, just an amateur. But I've been playing the violin for about 20 years now. I know my way around the instrument. What's your basis to judge anyone's violin play?

All I'm saying is a professional like Vanessa Mae should be able to provide a better performance. Just take a look at the sheet music and listen to this clip. It's obvious that she's playing the piece sloppily. Besides: You needn't be a chef to taste if a soup is oversalted

  • This sounds as if Vannesa Mae was half asleep while playing it

There is staccato in this piece. There are stops in this piece. And there are rallendando and accellerandos. They are what gives this piece it's character. In this performance she ignored these and thus nearly butchered the piece. I'm an amateur and I can play this. With staccato, stops etc. A professional be able to do much better. Even after a lot sleep deprivation...

  • so beautiful thanks much !

  • Wrong bowing. Poor melodic line. Many times the melody was contorted too. This vioinist has no sense of austrian romance.

  • Awesome.!!

    I love this performance. ^^

    She's beautiful.

  • so unnatural

  • Terrible!

  • listen to kriesler play it, then come back and listen to this again...

  • She has a very good technique, but her interpretation of the song if to chaotic, personally I don't like it. I Love Joshua Bell's interpretation, it's tender and paused... I don't mean to say this in a cruel way.

  • err, is she getting faster?? anyone?

  • If you are looking for a gentler , slower and sadder version of this song, check out the Joshua Bell version or go with the original Kreisler version to see how he interpreted it. Personally, this isn't my favorite version of the song, but one can tell she is a good player. (I am a violinist)

  • totall shit...without taste.!!!with primitive feelings...same quality as 13 year old of rapper..

  • @amrachow Where's your video of you playing this piece ?

  • @Auggie56 lets say i am not even playing violin ,i dont have right to say criticism ?i should not say what is right or what is wrong?

  • @amrachow Everyone has a right to express their opinion, but do you have to be so rude about it? after all, it's only a woman playing a violin

  • @amrachow

Rubbish, what pleases You is right, what doesn't isn't.

For me it's ok but too fast, maybe she had to catch a plane...

  • Pretty cool her (presumably not typical classical music) audience is getting to hear some Kreisler (and not with a beat added :))

  • très belle interprétation, avec un tempo choisi avec justesse par une grande interprète !

great interpretation, with a tempo aptly chosen by a great performer!

  • This a fine interpretation by a great violinist, I love it

tempo is matter of choice for the performer

  • Not being mean, shes a great violinist, just sounds like she needs to tighten her bow hair a bit O_o

  • @dreamov2D.... Grrrr... are you sure you're not being mean? lol

  • I feel nervous while listening to her playing this piece. The tempo seems too fast.

  • Music is not about if you are an educated musician, is about how you feel when playing it, i hate people saying they are better educated in music, whenthey might have a stone like feeling when playing, just enjoy the music, is why we are all here, hearing this song.

  • i've not heard this piece played 'traditionally', but her interpretation i like. i'm sure, listening to both, i would enjoy both. this seems to have a very light, almost playful, beat to it; i could dance to this, and have fun while doing so

  • you can't just ignore beat values. that's not how this works. I started yelling at my computer like halfway through.

  • What is really amazing is the lack of knowledge about her and her musical talent and background. Listen to her interpretation of Bach's Toccata and Fugue. Bach would have applauded, why, because in his time he too was thought of as a little extreme. Yes she is a "pop"star and thereby given a little more leniency by the masses. However, I guarantee if she was to play this piece as it had been written. You would either complain, or be astounded by her perfection. You just can't please everyone.

  • While the critic lies awake in bed hugging his insignificance the artist sleeps.

  • @birdland5 hahahahaha spot on

  • @SuperDonna888

I was poking around the other corners of my personal Youtube account and Lo and Behold, there's an inbox. Shows how good my peripheral vision is. I moved the computer out of the house to the office so I'm not nearly on it like I used to be. and BTW, my name is Tom. Thank you for the witty responses! TTFN

  • And if I hear a friend of me in the shower singing some beautiful music in a totally weird way, what should i do instead of saying its ok? Go and kill that person for what he has done 2 the work?

  • searching for inspiration and i found this... i just love this song

  • Muito Obrigada,....greet wnderfullll....

  • where's the love?

  • Why sadnees of love? I never heard that before

  • Vanessa Mae could have played this piece as well as Kreisler himself: Kreisler plays Kreisler-Liebesleid

Yet, she wanted to play it with a gentleness and expressiveness that is unique.

What we see & hear is a beautiful young lady wearing her heart on her sleeve.

    Lovely! Fantastic! Fantástico! Fatastique! Fantastisch!

Once & for all: Everybody who is talking s*** about Vanessa Mae understands a f****** nothing!

  • Love song means Liebeslied.

The correct translation of Liebesleid is love' s sorrow.

  • @HarryAmon Lol oops, got the letters mixed up.

  • Comment removed

  • Why is this called Liebesleid (Sadness of Love)? Liebesleid means Love Song.

  • Lovely! Fantastic! Fantástico! Fatastique! Fantastisch!

Everybody who is talking s*** about Vanessa Mae understands a f****** nothing!

  • theQUEEN of the violin. simple ,perfect.

  • i dunoo whats the matter but i really enjoy the music!

it sounds very soothing and romantic to me..

why are people makin comments on her?the music is more important and why..i think the music suit her too!

  • even if u don't like her as a violinist u shouldn't say rude things about her.... "DO AS TO OTHERS AS YOU WANT DONE TO YOURSELF. N "TREAT OTHERS THE WAY THAT YOU WANT TO BE TREATED.""

  • Where is this quote from?

  • @RasMajnouni idk i just remem quotes not the people dat right them srry i couldnt help n write this 2 u sooner

  • @vikki2011 I was asking a leading question, since I've known the answer as a young boy.Its from the Jewish Torah, the words are a bit different, but the meaning is the same.

  • @RasMajnouni ooohhhh

  • I haven't listened much of Vanessa but if you're gonna criticize why not just show us how to play it "better"? You can't really play it better...She played it just right, personally I didn't like her interpretation. But interpretation is the only thing you should think about when reaching a certain level of skill.

Stop dissing on women violinists...I think they lack only one thing - finger length.Doesn't much get in the way but you can't play something like Paganini, but why would you do that?

  • if you don't like her go away, cause her talent is beyond negative criticism, cause she has taken violin to new heights, making it popular again.

  • there are so many people playing the violin thats uploaded onto youtube who are no where as good as vanessa mae. why don't you guys go criticize and hate on them.

true. this girl is nowhere as good as people like perlman, heifetz, szerying and so many others. but that doesnt mean shes "porn on stage".

  • Oh my God!!

This is really very bad playing...

  • Really bad playing? hahaha

  • Debe de haber vuelto locos a sus maestros, como enseñarle a alguien tan precoz

  • How about you just leave youtube = )

  • why are u comparing her with sarah chang. sarah chang is a much better player than her. and why use the word porn. thats so ignorant. is it because she makes so much money that people have to hate on her? why dont you people go criticize some other lesser known violinist. perhaps they, including me(vanessa mae is a whole lot better than me), are considered to be porn on stage? look at yourself first. are you better than her? not many people are.

  • cool down. it's not about hate or money. we just don't like her - that's it. too many of us I should say =D and we don't have to play in the same concert halls to have this right. we are audience in this case. and the audience is not grateful to vanessa mae. of course she's more of a porn kind than sarah. but they go together in those terms. one just slight behind.

  • assa123assa123: whether u agree or not, sarah chang is a much better violinist than vanessa. if u think chang is close to porn, u might as well place josh bell and hilary hahn in that category too.

  • you're right, I do! Joshua Bell is a youthful puppy-pornstar on the stage =D

Hilary is somewhat more respected in this category. Though she doesn't usually impress me with music as well. Maybe she does only straight softcore scenes?

  • lol assa123assa123, u crack me up. i have nothing left to say haha

  • There is something wrong with her playing. Cant put my finger on it but the sound is without emotion.

She seem detached from the composers intentions.

  • Do I sence some jealousy in these mean comments? Yes, I do.

  • @kenxdyl Yes I SENSE some too. Still it is YouTube, where everything is analized to death, by such masterful ''experts'' That's how they become so famous, don't you know, 'cos we all listen to them?....Don't we? hahahaha

  • @SuperDonna888 lmao my bad for the spelling error xD

  • @kenxdyl Not jealousy, just educated listeners. Vanessa Mae is a joke.

  • @stringfingrd hahaha... What's an ''Educated listener''?..Prsumably a so called 'Expert' In which case, thank god I'm not an expert!...so I enjoy Vanessa's playing to my hearts content and I think, that she's rather good. It's a pity you got ''Educated''...it must be difficult finding any music that you can enjoy, after all, what is perfection to one person, is not necessarily so to the next... Well good luck in your search.

  • @kenxdyl Hello Kenxdvl, it's me again, I'm just doing a bit of patrolling hahaha and yes I senSe some, still! hahaha :-)

  • guacatelas

  • great violinist, thanks for posting..........

  • Errm, kingontheviolin, can you explain to us why an obvious illiterate should even be posting on here, or why the opinion of such an illiterate should be considered, much less respected? If you don't like her, that's fine, but keep your stunned opinions to yourself.

  • when is someone going to dare to speak out about this travesty of manipulation of a child into a non entity non player who has achieved world fame whilst remaining utterly mediocre? do you all know that her step father is a famous clasically trained violinist in his home country? can someone explain to her and her teachers and her stepfather that there is a question of morality in classical music?

  • gtf off your thesaurus you illterate idiot

  • Comment removed

  • yes,i agree with you!!!!It's about SADNESS,I can't find it here....

  • i think the tempo is being pushed the whole time, unnnaturally, way too fast....anyone agree?

  • I think it's fast partly because she tends to shorten many notes to the point that the specific rhythmic feel of the waltz is lost much of the time. Maybe she just wanted to play it her own way, which at least in principal, is something I admire.

  • @fluffynamedkimba

I definately agree, can also be a match lit for a gas branded "jelousy" maybe its her style. Not alot of people would agree with it, like a person searching for love.

  • @fluffynamedkimba Agreed! try listening to Vengerov and Brown's version! it's way better than this one.

  • @silfean

    Try Kremer :)

  • @Kasienia1756 Many thanks! It's splendid! i knew Martha Argerich was playing this one too but i didn't know that it was with G. Kremer. :)

  • @silfean

You are welcome :). If you enjoy Kremer, the whole pleasure is mine :D

  • @fluffynamedkimba

I agree. She's playing at the speed of light, like running down the street trying to catch a bus. Kreisler would spin in his grave because of what she has done to his work. She is clearly a pop-star trying to incorporate Classical into her repertoire in order to draw a larger audience. Nothing more.

PS: She reminds me of Andrea Bocelli, the Italian tenor. He's clearly more Pop than he is Classical. And most of his audience are women screaming how beautiful he is.

  • @McRat1968 Why would he spin in his grave?

I think he would appreciate the fact that ppl still play and enjoy his music, no matter in what way they interpret it.

  • @PreciousInPink

    You missed my entire point.

You're wrong: no, it's not ok to just play a composition in any way you please. They were written a certain way. They're marked not just in notes but also in music-expressive terms on top, etc.

For someone to come along and play it any way they please, and to say that's ok, proves that the performer knows nothing about music and is seeking their own attention. (That's like some American Idol star trying to sing an Opera Aria. No thank you.)

  • @PreciousInPink

When you said "no matter in what way they interpret it," that frightened me.

It made me think that, if you were to hear a relative or friend of yours in the shower, singing what's supposed to be beautiful Classical Music, yet sounding, instead, like a drunk cat meowing on a fence at night, you would have absolutely no problem with that.

(Yet more reason for you not to be commenting on something you clearly know nothing about.)

  • @McRat1968 And you surely do know it, huh?

I think now youve missed my point ;) Its not a crime doing things in another way, still you act like it is. If you dont like it, fine. Youre free 2 do so. But in the same way shes free to play this piece of music in her own way. Doesnt mean she know nuthin bout music and is just a pop-star trying 2 get more attention or sth.

  • @McRat1968 Not to barge in... but, the point of singing in the shower is not for YOUR enjoyment... but the singer's... it's like masturbatory music. Who the hell do you think you are to strip someone else's freedom to pursue happiness when it clearly does not infringe upon your's?

  • @kyonist

Who the hell do I think I am, you ask?

...Someone descended from and educated in music--who doesn't want it to be butchered by the likes of you, who clearly knows absolutely nothing.

PS: If you want to masturbate, do it while enjoying your vast collection of porn vids which I'm sure line your walls and closets.

You have no business commenting about something you know nothing about, (just like today's youth who care nothing about American History; only American Idol.)

  • @fluffynamedkimba

i do agree, i have the same feeling that vanessa has been pushing the tempo for effects sake (a little like andre rieu!). maybe that is what musicians are discussing about when asians are taking on european music.

  • I'm not going to say it's completely unmusical, but playing it rhythmical straight the entire time is completely unstylistic and eschews a main tool of expression

  • completely agree, no character at all

  • I think she played it decently. Those who are calling this interpretation an insult to Kreisler are being drama queens.

  • wow the 2 are the best

  • Study Kriesler's phrasing before playing next time. It is so plain and tastless.

  • Beautifully done, but still not one of her best performances. Perhaps her style simply doesn't suit the song?

  • Im not feeling the emotion

  • Kreisler will kill her if he's alive.. Her playing is excellent but she didn't give justice to kreisler's beautiful piece. She's playing on her own, She's not respecting her fellow accompanists. She's not making fine music and She's just making herself famous. A very bad attitude when it comes to an artist. Her great talent is useless if she's like that!

  • Come on, come on! Who doesn't know the theory you are preaching about! But, Vanessa's version sells, which is all capitalism is about. Famous -- yes, you can say similar things to Bill Clinton: your book is not classy at all; it sells only because of your dirty "life." Hey! He made his fame -- and money -- out of it, and he's liked by millions ! ("That old Bill!")

  • Hello! I know that the world is running under capitalism. It's very sad to think that even the very precious art (Arts) on this planet is being controlled by Capitalists. Because of Capitalism, The true and essential knowledge a man must know in this world is being blocked foolish ideas of people who just wanted to make money for themselves and ordinary people (especially here in my country) becomes arrogant on what is a true knowledge he/she must learn .

  • Wonderful...

  • It has nothing to do with Kreisler's music.

She managed to destroy excelent piece of music.

  • THE MUSIK IS WONDERFUL! Ilove it!

  • I don't like the tempo. VM is certainly a fine musician, but I think she failed to capture what Kreisler intended.

  • so cold...

  • An angel on the violin--listen to her magnifent tone and vibrato! One of the best in the world! I love her and could listen to her beautiful playing for hours! Uncle Junior knows perfection when he hears it and indeed--she is one of the worlds best!

  • What has she done to poor Kreisler!?!?!?!

  • Again you show you have NO taste...she is one of the best in the world and you cannot operate a CD player. Uncle Junior knows music and you don't know which button to push.

  • Someone is jealous ;D

  • No such thing as stretching the bar in Kreisler? You just heard it done! VM is not my "thing" by any means--but she has some talent--I just don't like her kind of violin playing. The thing that she does better than most is targeting her audience and marketing. And so what if she is dfferent; it's just another style and no one forces us to play like her, purchase her CDs. She has done well creating an "image"and style and that's okay. To me it's "camp" but to each their own.

  • Horrible is your comment about this most wonderful violinist--one of the best in the world. Listen to your Uncle Junior who knows music and you might learn something if you are lucky.

  • upload a video of yourself playing it better, then we'll see if you're right

  • One need not create art to critique it. As Kant said the beauty of art can be best judged by its fulfilling of the need. If this doesn't fulfill the need of Mekuchika then it is not necessarily beautiful to him/her. The problem is that this field is subjective towards taste. While some critiques are useful "VM is certainly a fine musician, but I think she failed to capture what Kreisler intended," (MoerpheusElPadre) and others are less, "horrible, vanessa is not violinist," (mekuchika)...[cont]

  • ...but they still have as much right to say it without actually needing to perform the piece. Now if the claim was, "I could play better than her!" then the individual would be making a challenge that needs to be displayed.

X_X Sorry, I've been writing papers too much...I need to be normal again!!!

  • You are an idiot. Another person's ability to play it "better" or not has nothing to do with the skills of the woman playing here.

  • I agree, she is not.

  • Well said!

  • I agree. This interpretation is a travesty. Aside from her terrible playing of the piece itself, there is no soul in it. Her playing is empty. Flat. It's absolutely terrible.

  • ella es la mejor!! =D como me gustaria una ves tocar con ella

  • An absolute master, even at 16.

  • jesus, sounds like Joe Hisaishi if the title didnt tell me so. (Myazaki films composer)

    I LOVE WALTZ. BEAUTIFUL.

  • I wish she would release more albums with music like this (like the "Clssical Collection") and played on THIS violin!

  • the cello adds a nice touch.

  • i love this song!! shes so good

  • Excellent!

  • Fabuloso!!!!!!!!!
