This guy is pretty intellegent, but he misses a crutial point, I think. Namely, the attitude that we are separate from nature and not a part of it. He looks at the problems and says it is INDUSTRIAL civilization that is to blame, even though ALL civilizations have collapsed. We should go beyond civ in my opinion. Re-wilding is an interesting idea. Have we permanently been kicked out of the garden of eden? Perhaps we (the human race) can re-incorporate back into nature. Everything from nature we tap into has to feed back into nature. Essentially all of our garbage must become food for something. We need to take the old boy scout saying more seriously "leave nothing behind" Can we really live in the wild with our knowledge? Is this too something we must overcome?

I live in Europe, over here virtually noone talks about peak oil and how we should prepare for the upcoming oil crisis. The only thing people are too obsessed with is global warming and the political correct ways of fighting it (i.e., blame the wealthy people in their SUVs etc).. This really bugs me. Guess I should build myself a life boat too 'cause our incompetent politicians are not going to do jack...

yeah. I just don't see the world responding to this crisis in an appropriate way. so, start building your lifeboat with as many friends and family as you can.

I'm very pessimistic about the overall responce from our society. Virtually no one is even talking about this now and we are about to be hit with the results of oil withdrawl in force. Its such a huge problem, I just don't know what to do. I agree that the only possible solutions will be communal, not individual action.
