  • hi, we gurkhas are so grateful of joanna lumley. how can we r paying her debt 4 elping n caring so much about us. she is a angel 4 us send by god.

i m sure that as long as there are gurkhas n nepal contry her name will be respected n remembered.

thanks again lumley and all britain people who supported us, u have done already so much 4 us n many many thanks to ex gurkhas who opened the door 4 us

    hats off bye

  • well done lumley, a recession, people without roofs over their heads and 12,000 at least expected to land with only 2 suit cases to their names.

What a girl. But of course it dosent affect you does it

  • Love you Joanna

  • It's an absolute disgrace how this woman has been allowed to play on everybody's emotions to get her way. Look at the amount of ex servicemen on the streets and ex servicemen not receiving proper care once they come back home in a bad mental state, and she's wanting MORE settling here which will put a massive stress on our already recession-ravaged economy!!!

Why can't they just take their pensions and go back to Nepal? They can live like kings in their own land.

  • I don't know why you are commenting about ex servicemen, you are obviously a spacky kid who has never served, and by the way you are a cnut.

  • They can live where they want, they have earnt that right.

  • Joanna you are my absolute idol- I am only 24 and hadnt known about this issue until you bought it up. Ive always admired you- thankyou for being such a great role model to other people in this country. You are a legend and Im so happy with the end result and in memory of your father.

    Best wishes,

    Helen x

  • Thank you Very much Joanna Lumley for supporting Ex-british Nepali Gurkha right to stay in Uk with thire family. Joanna Lumley I always praise of u. God bless you, thank you

  • All those people who have negative attitudes towards the Gurkhas, shame on you! Im serving in the Army and am glad they have the right to stay WITH they' re familys. I know Gurkhas who have left the Army and WORK for what they have. Of course some British people cant be bothered too, or what about the illegal immagrants? They are allowed to stay! yet you complain about good people who have FOUGHT for their adopted country. As a soldier I am honored they are allowed to live here!

  • I feel very passionatly about this, hence all the words. Why are you moaning about to many, and driving licences and TB!!!! You bloody fool! Its people like you whom we and Gurkha soldiers are fighting for! The Gurkhas are the most diciplined troops in barracks and their billets are spotless! As for TB, absurd! Everyone in the Army has to drive, why would they be any different, their familys can learn just like you did. They are very friendly and polite peolpe. Im proud to be in the same army!

  • I think you were missing something mate. In my post i said "I don't mind them coming here just spread them out abit" I work with Gurkhas everyday and are freindly to them all. Aldershot and Farnborough has become an area which has more than welcomed these people and rightly so but they all come to the same area which can not cope. You are asking for trouble when you swamp a place with foreign people. Your not fighting for me either. My Father and Grandfathers did that !!

  • You can never have enough hats, gloves and shoes...

  • Well done Joanna and well done the Gurkhas.

  • very well done. The Gurkhas are the most wonderful and brave warriors in the world. How dare those lying, thieving politicians have the nerve to refuse these people their right to live in this country. Make more space for the Gurkhas and put all the liars and cheats in Parliament on a floating rubbish boat somewhere in the pacific. It is beyond my comprehension that there should have been any debate at all about this. Joanna Lumley and the rest of the team I send my utmost respect to you all. x

  • Joanna for Prime Minister!

  • The bravest soldiers in the world. Of course they should be allowed to stay. Get your finger out Brown you're doing little else.

  • Burkas YES, Gurkhs NO

  • Bet they will all be living in her street then eh. Don't mind them coming here just spread them out acroos the country becasue Farnborough and Aldershot have more than enough already. Over subsribed Schools and you can't see a Doctor for days as it is. 10,000 expected to come to this area God help us. Oh yes and teach them to drive before they come here becasue they are accidents waiting to happen.

  • Are they MAD??? Did they not realise they were taking on Purdey???

  • The Gurkhas were their as soon as they were called apon and they wore our uniforms and fought side by side with our soldiers. They fought for us so they should stay in this country. If the idiots in power can give hand outs to people who have come here illegally feed them clothe them etc THEN THESE GURKHAS SHOULD STAY HERE . I fully support the GURKHAS... They helped us so now HELP THE GURKHAS..

  • I always admire Joanna Lumley but now I don't cos she so stupid for bringing gurkha live in britain as we have no room for them and there so many forgeiners live here

  • Comment removed

  • Go Joanna. C`mon folk. YOU PERSONALLY can make the difference. See GURKHA SONG and sign the petition. tell your mates, your families and even your enemies. Help the Gurkhas please. This is all so wrong. Thanks, Keir Hardie, ex marine.

  • Time for our government to wise up and listen to the people, all Gurkha should have the right to live here in the UK

  • Agreed. Now get yer tits out bitch.

  • lol

  • hehe

  • Well done Joanna and all involved:

Today, MPs voted by 267 to 246 in favour of a Liberal Democrat motion that all Gurkhas be offered an equal right of residence.

This is now a major step forward for these brave men and their familes. The govenment has to act now!!!!!

  • JOANNA LUMLEY-She is a lady.

And fifa3008. Why dont u invite people who are interested in bombing ur underground or maybe the national rail this time.

  • Shame on you British Government. So selfish and so cheap. you've used our young man and trashed them like garbage. Descriminated not only in resident status but also made huge descrimination on pay and benifits throughout this entire time. What a disgrace. blood sucker british government. Gurkhas should all come back home we need you it doesnt matter even if you are old now Nepal needs you

  • our young man and trashed them like garbage

theyve used and trashed everything...except jihadist muslims illegals and haters of britian

  • Miss Lumley, "Thank you" to yourself and your team for your unstinting efforts to right the terrible wrong visited on generations of Gurkhas. Perhaps now we can start to pay some of the debt we owe to these brave and loyal people, You can hold your head as high as any Gurkha, Your Father would be so proud of you.

  • FIFA3008.

I am a BNP member and supporter and the BNP has FULLY supported the rights of the Gurkhas to settle and become British citizens.

Never has ANY native white Brit I have ever spoken to had a bad word for the Gurkhas.

They are welcome as are their familys we need more immigrants like these and less Africans and Muslims with nothing to offer but crime and violence.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GURKHAS AND WELL DONE MS LUMLEY!

  • well then maybe im a first.

  • you stupid sod

  • Thankyou very much!

  • thank you very much for what, but my concern is that we've no room for them to stay in british as we have so many forgeiners live here but I'm not against them and I'm not racists as I have many friends from forgeiners here

  • You have a point of view you made it enough said.

  • Thanks for your input, pepsico8. I can see from your excellent and accurate use of the English language - and the spelling thereof - that you are a true Englishman who has undoubtedly earned the right to live here.

  • thank you very much, sorry for bad english well I am deaf I'm hopeless with english lol, did you see tv news say that some gurkha have to send back to their home but I don't know why?

  • more than 45,000 gurkhas died serving your country is that a joke..?? They are used when they are young now they are old and wont be able to settle or find a job if they come to Nepal. what can they do. Alright they dont need British resident just give them equal pay. Its their right.

  • well i dont think they should get british residency but compensation packages should be given out.

  • Just bear in mind the sacrifice of these people over almost 200yrs.

If they serve their military time with good conduct they should be entitled to stay.

Compare these people to some of the vermin we have let through the door who we cant even deport.

  • Justice for these proud, brave and loyal warriors. Without men like these we'd all be speaking German now.

  • With the streaks of shite we have in Parliament we will all end up muslim.

    CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GURKHAS!

  • Bakari the Hate Shiek bragged last week that he stayed in the UK and bled the welfare system allowing him to get a free car, sell it and buy a house in Jordon, the very country he said would kill him if he returned and he is only a minute example and yet this Government betrays the brave Gurkhas..it's a disgrace and we should all start shouting about it as others did over the outragous request to remove a veil, how dare we ask such a thing.

  • How many other "Asian" migrants in the UK?

And the finest soldiers on the planet whom have fought with and died alongside British forces for one and a half centuries are not permitted?

Its time to spill blood on the streets of Britain, politicians blood!

May the Gurkha gods bless Joanna...

  • This is total injustice, discrimination and abuse of power. We have been looked down upon by the british government because we let them to. I think it's time we fight for our right's, standing shoulder to shoulder with the british government. Let's stand for the right of our father's. We have served them now I think it's time we fight them. Voice of a boy who never thought this as an issue but the more I think more I feel the pain and hatred of injustice towards the british government.

  • Allow All the Gurkhas to retire in the UK, and pay them a the same pension as our retiring forces,

such as it is. I am convinced that when MP's get elected common sense seems to be beyond them, GURKHAS TO STAY, no if's, No buts, Do it now.

  • as an ex british para i know how brave and proud the ghurka's are it's a bloody disgrase how there being treated .labour goverment SUCKS !

  • I signed the petition and would urge anyone with a sense of outrage at this

betrayal of the Gurkhas to do likewise

  • I'm appalled by this outrageous decision from our disgraceful government. They let into this country the scum and villainy from Eastern Europe and elsewhere, but turn away these loyal and honourable men. SHAME SHAME SHAME on Labour.

I'm ashamed to call myself British, by accident of birth I reside in this country.

I have had the great privilege of serving alongside these fine men on several brief occasions. I treasure the memories. I would support these brave Gurkha to the ends of the Earth.

  • 19 century Gurkhas were forbade by their religion to cross the sea. At the outbrake of The Great War,Gurkha troops were given special dispensation by their religeous leaders to cross the sea in order to die in their thousands for The British Empire in Flanders. This from a people who were never in The Empire or The commonwealth. When shall their glory fade? Right now it seems.Loyalty,Respect and Honour are sacrificed by a gang of politicians not fit for purpose. What shame! What have we come to?

  • Get signing folks and pass the message far and wide. Brave and Loyal to the very core of the Crown and Her people.

Full marks to David Enright the solicitor, Joanna Lumley and everyone else involved.

  • The Labour Government are scum.

  • Absolutely disgusting behaviour from this government.

    SHITEBAGS the lot of them.

I am ashamed to be a citizen of this country, these politicians should be tarred and feathered while apologising for their own behaviour.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER give up on the gurkhas.

  • God bless you Joanne, I signed it, and I know a lot of people did. Those Labour party bastds are not going to get in next year. I'm so gutted that they are treating our Gurkhas so badly. They have ruined everything Britain ever stood for.

  • Anybody who considers themselves British and proud of their history will know what the word Ghurka means. It is ingrained in our psyche and needs no explaining. Please sign the petition.

  • I was lucky enough to go treking in Nepal 15 years. The total humility and gentleness of the people was ever present. The fact that so many of them have died to preserve our way of life is beyond remarkable. We owe it them to give something back. The population of this country is growing by 1,000 per week. I very much hope that we shall see some of those places taken up by the Gurkas.

  • It makes me wonder how this corrupt government can allow known terrorists to shelter in the UK but not allow men and women who have fought for this once great nation not to have settlement rights. Glad I've never voted Labour and never will - they have one rule - don't do as I do, do as I say!

  • This decision defies belief.

    Shame on you Brown.

Take a good look at yourself man.

I ashamed to call you a Scot.

  • I'm ashamed to call him human. He is so anti british it is unreal.

  • Absolutely spot on paininspain.

Brown is in charge. HE needs to answer to this.

He truley is appalling and a disgrace to the United Kingdom.

  • well well labour do it again... like other posters here I used to vote labour for many years, before they became fashionable again even,,

now I see they are doing to to the gurkhas what they have been doing to the poor,, the sick, the disabled for years,,

all these impossible to pass tests have been in use since labour got in power...

the good thing is that joanna has bought this treatment of gurkhas to light..

remember children in need, the kids looking after disabled parents with no help

  • It frankly beggars belief! They have to have been in the forces for 20 years to be allowed to stay when an 'ordinary' Rifleman (and anyone who knows anything about the Gurkhas knows there's really no such thing as an 'ordinary' one!) can only serve for 15 years!

Who do these jokers think they are kidding eh?

Either they knew about the 15 years thing and are underhand back-stabbers or they didn't know and are incompetent fools!

Please Please Please don't vote them in again! Ever!

  • Well done Joanna. At a time when our government allows in a high number of immigrants who have no affinity to our preferred way of life it has failed to do the right thing yet again. Gurkhas are a most honourable people who share our best standards. We should honour them in full and welcome them to the UK.

  • The government claim that to change the legislation would open the door to 100,000. If they are all Gurkha's what a wonderful boost that will be for the Uk. Its about time we had an influx of patriotic upstanding corageous individuals whome I would feel honoured to live alongside.

    Steve Bosanko Manchester

  • The treatment of Gurkhas is a shame on this nation. I'm a donor to the Gurkha Welfare Trust.

  • I have voted labour for years but I'm afraid this massive mis deed has lost them my vote. Politicians should read a few more history books maybe then they would understand why the British people welcome the Gurkhas to this country.

  • The last foreigner to lead a nation to ruin was Adolf Hitler. The Scotsman currently leading the English nation seems to be working to the same game plan. It is morally and ethically disgraceful the way the Gurkhas are being treated. They must feel they are experiencing a holacaust.

  • I'm ashamed of how this once great country has treated these brave men and their families.

  • The Labour party has just guaranteed that they will definitely not be receiving a vote from me at the next general election. This is a total disgrace and I too like many are ahsamed to be British. callumwest13 you are exactly right we the people who pay our taxes(or in some cases the parent's!) and keep the idiot politicians in their job's should have a say!!!!!!!!! I say bring it to a public vote!!!!!!!!!

  • Absolute disgrace how we keep in Islamic fundies who hate every last tevor of this country yet we denie equal, loyal and hard working men who have served Britian more than any Muslim could from having British citzenship. Its a disgrace, just shows where the goverments priorities are, they don't give a stich about anything decent these days. By the way?, where was anyones say when this bill was signed?,we should have a right to know and decide the outcome of things like this.

  • Couldn't have put it any better myself...

  • This completley reflects the mind set of the bafoons we are meant to trust. No words can describe my outrage towards this injustice and complete dis-respect to our bretherin who have, and curently do fight for the crown.

Joanna Lumley, thank you, thank you for being the voice of the people towards these cowards in parliment. We must let them know that this injustice cannot and WILL not be ignored by the majority of the British public.

  • Brown and his money grabbing free loading cronies should hang their heads in shame, these men have served our country with honour and decency, something that politicians are sadly missing... good luck with the campaign

  • Absolutely shameless, not one jot of decency or morality remains with this broken government.

  • How can the government think this right, if anyone deserves to be able to live here its the gurkas who have fought for this country in very demanding situations. Come on Mr Brown take your finger out of your arse and do the right thing for once,

  • I am ashamed to be British. The treatment of the Gurkhas just shows how morally bankrupt this Governnment is - we allow Islamist preachers asylum and succour but not brave men who fought for this country.

During a week of cataclismic economic news, when we find out how Gordon Brown has ruined this country, we find out today how our Government treats its allies - shameful.

  • paulwestripp. The Gurkhas have more right to live in this country than our so called govenment do. Shame on the govenment.

  • How dare our pathetic Government deny these brave soldiers SCUM they are a disgrace to this country and a disgrace to humanity to hell with'em.

  • No group of people has a greater right to residency in our country. What can I, who was born here, give as justification for my being given rights denied to these brave men? I don't care if this "opens the door to up to a hundred thousand people coming to Britain" as the government claims. This country has been built on immigration, and what better people could we have to honour and respect as model citizens who have already proved their worth.

  • I couldn't agree more. The Gurkha's have been deployed in some of the toughest situations, along side British forces. Together, as a team, they fought it out, they fought it out for another country. My father, a former paratrooper Sgt, sings nothing but high praises for the Gurkha and the very least the British government could do for them is allow resident. I would love the chance to organise a rally in my town of Basingstoke, as there is a large Nepalese population (some even personal friends)

  • It is truly disgraceful the way our Governments have treated these people who gave so much - You have my vote Ghurkas - you're worth it!

  • shame on our government

  • It is a very sad day when our so called Government deny these brave men the right to stay in the UK. They are though very happy to accept all the spongers, drop outs etc who turn up on our door steps! Gordon Brown do the right thing for once!!!!

  • My father served with the Ghurkas in Malaya in 1950s and has always admired and held them in the highest regard. How disgraceful it is that we cannot feel the same about our governments because of their disloyal treatment of the Ghurka soldiers.

  • I'm absolutely disgusted that this government refuses to give these people the respect they deserve, they fought for,and continue to fight for this country, and they get shown nothing but contempt by this government who send them to war.

They're among the finest soldiers in the world, and deserve the same rights as UK citizens......SHAME ON THIS GOVERNMENT.

  • I am disgusted and furious that the brave Ghurkhas are being discriminted against again. These menhave fought and died for this country for years and years. My brother in law, who served in Burma during the war, was in awe of these men, and thanked God that they were with his regiment. This government should be ashamed that they give the dregs of Europe and Asia house and home, and deny this to the bravest men we have as allies. Shame on Gordon Brown.

  • as far as I am concerned this topic shouldnt even be under negotiation. The Gurkha's served and died for crown and country. They deserve all rights as a UK citizen regardless of rank medals or illness. I am disgusted with the conditions announced today.

  • Shame on this Government, Take a look round any High st during the day and see the waste of space's who sponge of this country clamming benefits and have no intention of EVER working the Government can look after them give them free homes, health care, but these brave upright people who are prepared to lay down there lives get nothing. What has this country come to

  • Im sorry if this sounds ignorant, but I have only just heard about this today on Sky News this morning.

I think its absolutely appalling the way they are being treated. Fighting for our country then being kicked to the curb after there is no need for them. Must make our image overseas look fantastic! They should be welcomed with open arms and have all the services provided for them, cos wasn't that what they fought for? Democracy and freedom?

  • thanx jonnas for supporting us

    cheers

  • god blesss joanna

    shame on the government

  • Not many things make me ashamed to be British... this one does. Shame on the Government, listen to the will of the the people for once.

    God bless Joanna

  • USA.....Too much familiar with Gurkha....(Racially, I m from Nepal i.e. Gurkhali)

    I support the troops...

    :)

  • I'm from the USA, saw an ad for the Gurkha Justice Campaign and decided the Gurkha people need so much more. I SUPPORT THE GURKHAS!

  • its disgusting the british government can let any tom dick and harry into this country, but when someone lays their life down for it you have to fight to get into the country they served for so long with honor in two wars , its about time the government started treating the armed services with the respect they deserve they have earned it well done joanna your dad would be so proud of you for trying to right a (wrong)

  • Being a ex British Soldier living in the US.I signed Joanna's petition and proud to do so.I am ashamed the British Government would alow this to happen. The Gurkhas have served Britain for many years with honor and distinction. They deserve everything the rest of the army gets and more. Thanks Joanna for all your work sofar.

  • This is a great cause. It's so fantastic what Joanna's doing. Everyone please sign the petition. I signed it too, even though I'm not a UK citizen, nor do I live in the UK.

So everyone, whether you live int he UK or not: Please sign the petition, it's important!

  • Get the message out to all your friends and family. The Gurkhas have never been shy about helping us when we needed it.

  • Good on you Joanna. This should have been sorted 200 years ago but typical of the British Government loyality is taken for granted and taken advantage of. Faugh a Ballagh

  • The British Government should hang their heads in shame - these brave men "THE GURKHAS" and their families have served our country with honour - how dare they treat them with disrespect - SHOW OUR SUPPORT NOW!

  • You're a national treasure sweetie!

  • Well done Joanna, for doing what's right!! I will sign now :)

  • Thankyou, Joanna. You are a shining star as always. Keep up the good work for the Ghurkas. They deserve the very best.

    Massey54

  • These men are heroes and at the very minimum should be afforded the rights this Government deems acceptable to give countless immigrants with no connection whatsoever to our nation. Continue your campaign Joanna for this very just cause the peope are behind you

  • Yes to citizenship, yes to pension rights, and yes to a fund paid by the MOD to provide for the welfare of retired elderly ex gurkas,(compensation for being F***ked over for all these years.

  • I'm not a citizen, nor do I live in the UK, but I signed the petition based on what my grandfather and uncles all said about the Gurkhas they served with in wartime. They all agreed that these men were the bravest, most loyal and fiercest fighters the British soldier could hope to have on his side.

To think that after all this time and service to the crown, that the government would deny citizenship to them is simply disgraceful.

  • We give citizenship to muslims that blow us up, Gurkhas die for us and get nothing in return, disgraceful government.

  • Yes, I have signed too. This is really a national scandal, and I do hope everybody who watches this will go to the website and put their name down. Think of how much the Gurkhas have done for this country; surely we can do this for them?

  • Giving British Citizenship to these brave men

must be done and it must be done now.And while we're at it grant them equal pension rights too.

Keep up the good work Joanna and god bless

  • well doe joanna keep it up ive signed

  • My grandfather fought with the Gurkhas and said they were bravest and most loyal soldiers in the world. The Government should do the decent thing by honouring and rewarding their loyalty with equal rights...We should all be supporting this campaign and encouraging everyone we know to do the same.

  • I am appalled, disgusted and dismayed that a handful of politicians see it fit to ill-treat the Gurkhas.

Shame on Government ministers sat in their cosy ivory towers.

  • I first came across these loyal and lovely people in Singapore when Father (late) was serving there in 1959-1961. My best friend was Domah Wangdhi(?) who I would love to make contact with again. They deserve our support and I echo the wishes of others on this site - and the Gurkha soldiers also deserve equal pension rights!! Just download the petition and get everyone signing so our Government knows the Gurkhas have our support. Giselle - Pensioner, UK.

  • The Gurkhas are brilliant and loyal soldiers and deserve the right to stay in the UK. What the government have done is wrong, and they know it. Now they need to set it right.

  • Gurkhas in.. Islamic fundamentalists out!

  • All of the above, these brave and faithful men who have given service to the Crown have earned the right to our support and thanks and we need to acknowledge this debt......and pay up NOW!

  • Bravest of the brave.

    May I add... Equal pensions....

    ex-Brit Squaddie

  • Thank you Joanna

  • Thanks Joanna, you are as lovely as always.

I fully support the campaign for the Gurkhas.

  • *squeals*

    Cheers sweeties thanks alot!

    Love her!

Can people from the US sign as well?

  • Do sign. It's shameful that a man can serve 20 years in the UK armed forces and still not have a legal right to live in the UK. The Gurkhas have faithfully served the UK for more than 200 years. All decent British men and women should be ashamed at our government's attitude.

    Rock on, Joanna sewwtie :)

  • I will, she is very right to support them and everyone else should support them as well. They deserve what they are asking.

  • yeah sure.. I just signed... my family is in UK and I am here isolated in the US.. I hope to meet them pretty soon. Thanks to the British people and Joanna for their support... after all we all are humans and we all bleed red... peace
