@PentagramSchematic Have you seen or read anything Addams Family before? Aside from some of the comics it was a silly show/movie about a silly family. Charles Addams was mocking traditional living when he was writing the comic. That's what i understood to be his main point, not the humor or the family so much. They didn't even have names when the comics first started being printed. I think you may like the comic strip, but good luck finding it. Tim Burton is making a new movie in 201?, too.
oh i wanna see this, when will it come to the UK? Does anyone know if- like most stage show musicals- ther will be an album coming out on itunes coz i love the songs ;D
@jckaluv How do you not get that casting choice? She's played Lilith for probably 15 years, who would infact seem clinically dead if she'd stop walking and talking.
Pale, skinny, cold, and gorgeous. I can't think of a better person for the job than Bebe.
@brandiralavara5 I don't know it just doesn't work for me. Like I said, it's nothing against her talents. It's not so much her looks...her voice is extremely identifiable, and doesn't seem right for Mortitia. It's not always about what a person looks like...you have to consider the whole package. Heck, Nathan Lane doesn't really fit Gomez either...but he's just so Broadway that he could get away with anything....just my opinion!
I saw the show on broadway and it was so good. Krysta Rodregiez and Nathan Lane Were so GOOD!!!!! I could see it over anover again. I want to be apart of the cast.
Yeah Gomez is not supposed to be Mexican! That was just Raul Julia's interpretation. Gahh was hoping the musical would be more true to the original comic.
I hear a lot of people are really mad about this, but personally, I think this show looks awesome and I honestly can picture this as a musical better than I can picture Spider Man as a musical.
Lots of people are giving Bebe a hard time about her voice and how she doesn't sound great but I think its a choice. Like something weird she's doing with her voice for the character because if you hear her sing anything else, she doesn't sound like that.
You now, I saw this for Christmas and it was.....bad. I was really looking forward to it, but if the tickets weren't so expensive I would have walked out. The actors were fine, and some where even great, but the plot was awful and stupid. A bad adaption.
OMG this is soooo awesome! we're doing this number in our dancing concert this year.. its going to be great.
My favourite part is at 1:36 when Morticia laughs... then shes like serious straight away afterwards! so awesome. lol. i'd give it a 7 out of 10... and i havent even seen the actual stage show!
... oh, this is painful. The songs are terrible. Nathan Lane is awesome, but he's no Gomez. This entire thing is campy, and not in the good original TV Addams Family way. Just... bad Broadway adaption bad.
WOW. This truly is a borderline insult to The Addams Family. Especially Gomez. I love Nathan Lane to death but after Raul Julia, NOBODY can play that role well. Just like with Heath Ledger and the Joker. It's basically the role of the century.
@BlackChinca You don't understand. Wed is supposed to be in her teens in this and falling in love with a boy. That's pretty much what the play revolves around.
I saw this acouple of weeks ago and yes it was good. The people here complaining that it was bad must of not watched the old show that much. It has the same dark humor as its past. Alot of laughs.
I saw these acouple of weeks ago and yes it was good. The people here complaning that it was bad must of not watched the show that much. It has the same dark humor as its past. Alot of laughs.
This show relies on its recognizable characters to create the enjoyment and doesn't bother trying to actually tell a good story. The jokey puns can be seen from a mile away. One last thing: This show uses tentacle porn as a plot device in act two. I'm not even kidding.
I saw this show last night and I'm hoping this comment will save you a couple hundred bucks. Sure, it has cute moments and one or two jokes that will make you smile, but if you've got half a brain and you're looking for something to stimulate it, this isn't it. Now, I'm not talking about some serious dragging drama. La Cage was upbeat and campy and full of jokes and it was a hundred times better than this show. The jokes in La Cage were actually well written.
Just came back from seeing it. So funny but there were a couple of scenes which weren't necessary and weighed it down a bit. Overall, very entertaining and very funny, especially for us who grew up with the Addams'.
Yes, Bebe's voice isn't flawless, but it's very full of, I don't know, I just like how much it sounds like her speaking voice. I love her voice. I think she's excellent at playing Morticia here. Anyways, I'm seeing this on Sunday. Super excited!
@dragoness71998 shes supposed 2 b like 18 and is now "coming of age" yet Pugsley is still like 10. Interesting twist. I'm seeing it tomorrow!! Yay!! =)

@funboy7979 Quaint grandma shit? I was at a Tony Awards party the other day where all the guests were all 18-29 (and there were quite a few of us). I'm 24 and know many, many, many other twenty-somethings and teens who love theater and musical theater. And can I just point out that what we do in a theater is sit and enjoy entertainment, which is exactly what you do when you go see a concert or a movie or even watch a tv show? Theater is hardly quaint grandma shit.
@TheDramaQueen Your name says it all. Broadway is terminally unhip, a rehash of safe brand names to help doughy tourists max out their credit cards. Regarding The Addam's Family, the old TV show was a 100 times more innovative and daring than this tired souvenir. The skill, the craft, etc. is admirable, but not at issue. I loved this show in Chicago. The only thing I had a problem with was the fact that Wednesday's character completely changed. Wednesday was always my favorite character.
I wasn't a big fan of Bebe as Morticia, the wobble in her singing did it in for me. Morticia is supposed to be a sweet, sultry, sexy, motherly-like character. I just didn't get that feel from her. I got a very (pardon my french) b****y feel from her. But anyways, I LOVED how they made the chorus as ancestors in all white and from different eras! Kevin Chamberlin is magnificant as Uncle Fester, and Krysta Rodriguez blew me out of the water as Wednesday!
@missmay2013 I know. i saw it in chicago. and honestly Bebe's singing was AWFULLL. i just didnt like her at all as morticia. believe it or not i thought SJB would have been really good as morticia. Bebe just wasnt funny or intriguing. she couldnt hold her own..and I thought I was the only one who didnt like her Morticia.
@missmay2013 hahah i think so. :) I just hope they got her singing lessons and it's improved since chicago. cause everyone else is fantastic. and she just cant keep up with them!
i was hoping it would be like a dark comedy or something...this just makes it look corny

Stage Right wasn't lit very well. I feel sorry for Jackie Hoffman.

Honestly, I think that while Bebe Neuwirth doesn't have the best voice, there aren't many actresses nowadays who could play Morticia like she can.

I loved this show in Chicago. The only thing I had a problem with was the fact that Wednesday's character completely changed. Wednesday was always my favorite character.

If everything goes right, the show will be running on Broadway, with Nathan and Bebe as the leads until March 2011..

I saw this in previews, I loved it!

@Xwildwoodxflower Agreed. I think we just might be the only two that realize that her in this role was a no no.

@missmay2013 hahah i think so. :) I just hope they got her singing lessons and it's improved since chicago. cause everyone else is fantastic. and she just cant keep up with them!
Xwildwoodxflower 1 year ago
@Xwildwoodxflower Lol she definitely did not improve! I saw it in New York and she was still... "ehhh"
