best nz band names: thorazine shuffle, eye tv (not kissing ass, i actually thinks it was one of the best), muckhole, superette, push push, pash, crowded house, the exponents, pumpkinhead.
worst: Elemeno P (worst name i have ever heard for a band anywhere...), the feelers (only works if you are a not-so-serious band, otherwise sounds WRONG), Deceptaconz (anything that ends in 'nz' is just stupid), split enz (again), the Mint Chicks (what does word 'mint' mean again?this i not the 90's anymore)
zac? this isn't zac (where did you get that)? anyways, my post was relevent since a earlier post did get your band confused w/ the MCA records Nixons. If i told you more than you wanted to know, im sorry. I guess thats just what you have to deal with when you use the previously established name "the nixons" as the name for your band. i small price to pay considering the additional traffic this lil video got due to the confusion. as for your question about your song.. ill go with ehhh.
this is not the same band as The Nixons that were from Oklahoma and were on MCA records with the singles Sister, Foma, Happy Song. Not the same band that had Zac Maloy, Jessie Davis, Ricky Brooks & John Humphrys. Totally different band.
They split because Zac wanted to take the band one direction and Jessie and John quit since they didn't agree with the direction of the band. Zac was basically left solo.
thanks zac...but this is the band (Nixons from NZ) i wanted to watch not the oklahoma version, maybe the oklahoma nixons have a video somewhere on youtube where your history lesson would be more relevant, Im not hassling you just suggesting that if anyone wanted the oklahoman band and only realised this wasnt them until they read your comment then the finer details of their break-up would most probably be lost of them...this is a good song either way tho huh?
This is the owner of the vid/song. This song came out before the US Nixons big "Foma" album on an album called "Special Downtime." The NZ Nixons formed in 1989 - before the US Nixons - but they weren't signed to a major. That's why the NZ Nixons changed their name to Eye TV for their US tours and subsequent albums. (Now there's a little history lesson for you.)
@sstu005 i have to ask, why were they called the nixons? it's not taking after the dead kennedy's is it? it's not tricky dick is it? because in that case, i'm glad you changed your name, because that's a pretty obscure reference coming from a new zealand band, i mean, it doesn't really click like it would for a US audience. maybe i'm wrong about the idea for the name though... would you please tell me how you came up with it?
@myexplosun333: hey. Just a name we thought sounded cool when we started in 1989. (We had a long list, but they were all too fancy sounding.) Prior to that — for about 9 months — we were called the Easies, but had some changes in personnel, so we decided to go for a new name.
@sstu005 Thanks for the info. That name, Eye TV, at first i was like "WTF?, so now they are the name of their album", but it grew on me and i think it's much better than the nixons. Too many nz bands have a 'the' in their name (yes, your new band too.) I read in rip it up that not long after you changed the name, the american band split up.
@sstu005 ONE MORE THING! Your best song by a country mile was 'Tick Tock'. It was as good as anything the american bands were putting out at that time. The fact is, on the collection, the trip 3, it was still one of the stand out tracks of that compilation, even against all those US alternative bands that were so popular at the time!
They became EyeTV in 1995 (have a look for the Exiles, the singer's current band). For some reason what stuff there is on iTunes is under "T.V. Eyes" (go figure!).
Such a great album!
