this knife looks awesome! i just wish the pocket clip was set so that i would carry deeper in the pocket other than that i would welcome its strong lock and i really dig the blade shape.
With all due respect when Nutn does not like the thickness and weight of some knives I usually like them for work where I it will be one of the few things in my pocket. When off work/recreation I like the lighter thinner knives too.Glad there is sooooo many choices and styles now.
I like the knife. It fits my medium hand well.I like to carry a thin knife for light duty but have a few joint problems (broke hand years ago and arthritis/carpal ). The thinner small knives are hard for me to hold tight for a long time.I like the thick minis. My lock is rock solid with no wiggle. On the mini lawman and ak47 I remove the clip and it is loose in the pocket. The bigger Cold Steels G10/FRN get lightly sanded and clips get prestressed a day or so by leaving on a leather belt.
@nelson149 No, the Tri-Ad locks are all the same, they're all easily disassembled. Nutnfancy just assumed that the pins would make the knife difficult to take apart. Not an unreasonable assumption to make, really; I thought the same until I looked up a few vids on the matter, and he doesn't have the time to research every little thing.
When I disassembled my Rajah 2, the scales lifted right off the pins, I didn't have to punch them out. Then again, those were grivory scales; I don't know if that makes a difference.
I suppose it is a personal preference, but the thickness of the handle is a positive thing in my opinion. It has a nice feel to it (The spacing of the thumb stud and the heft of the handle make it extremely well suited for use when wearing gloves). Also, no lock issues on my part. I appreciate the reviews, they've aided me on several occasions.
@ChAnDoN864430 Nutn says its Teflon, same as the Recon 1 tanto that he showed splittlong logs. It'll wear off but it looks good even when it wears... Hope that helps. -- Veri
Just got a mini lawman, and it came razor sharpe with a solid lockup, no wiggle at all vertically, and just a tiny bit side to side. But totally agree with the clip, it sucks way too much knife hanging out of your pocket.
hey nutn i don't have issues with some knives , shredding my pocket ... but then again i wear jeans ... i think you should look more to what other people wear , and 90% of people dont wear "tactical" pants ...and that fabric is easly shredable , much more over jeans ...
Then he goes on to babble about chunkiness and width. Hey pal not everyone has little girl hands. The Mini AL is a perfect fit and one of the best production , wallet friendly knives available.
Not everyone likes a slim , flimsy-ass knife like the 940 or the Persistance.
I've seen you damn great knife after great knife that does not fit into your category of slim , or if it rides over the lip of your pocket.
Yea , if you wear those tight EMO girl pants it might matter ...
@rebeltf 1. your bitchy attitude sucks: being critical is fine, but why that bitchy scorn? Nutn's reviews reflects his subjective opinion, he always stressed that and you're free to feel or think different. 2. do a better review yourself then. 3. if you can't communicate/ciritize eloquently like a grown-up and you try to be funny with scorning, at least be right: your argument of Nutn having "little girl hands" is just ridiculously stupid/infantile. Peace & regards from Amsterdam
@rebeltf well you have a point but you could just say some people like big think knives vs thin ones with out looking and acting like a immature little boy
@rebeltf I'm a police cadet and honestly I cannot stand the lawman because it gets in the way. The clip sucks both for insertion and carry, the thickness is excessive in ratio to the blade size, and I would rather carry my buck vantage pro 10 times out of ten, especially since its about the same price with a much better steel!
The small AL does not 'need' the Tri-ad ? Wow I'm glad I have you to decipher how this great knife should have been made... BS nutn. The Tri-ad is a welcome part of the Mini AL , you will not find a tougher production , wallet friendly knife of the same size , period.
Wiggle in the blade ? Not an ounce and I have handled several of both large and mini AL . I own a large lined and mini unlined version , both of them have been put into the EDC role , there is no blade wiggle.
Good review! Nitpicking slightly but its not really ambidextrous Thumbstud can be reversed RH only or LH only. I'm ambidextrous and switch back and forth frequently. The fact that these CS triad locks don't have a fully ambi thumbstud keeps me from buying one. Rat-1 Folder has a real ambi thumbstud that can used either right or left handed without have to remove and reverse the thumbstud . Makes you wonder why CS just didn't just give them a real ambi thumbstud?
opps forgot to say thanks for the awsome reviews bud ! I have the full size lawman its a great knife. Ive put it though some harsh cutting and it passes with fling colors. I think most of the cutting power comes from the larger handle and and a semi short blade. My full size Lawman is bulky and heavy but not to bad. I am a collector also. When I start thinking about getting a new knife I will look at your reviews first, cause you can lay out the pros and the cons very well.
I am all about the lanyard holes in the handles. I use a 4 inch short piece of leather shoe string colored black with a sharpie and black peony beads. and I have to admit grabbing that lanyard is alot faster for getting the knife out of my pocket and ready to rock and roll.
really the only things i dont like about mine is, the teflon coating kinda comes off easy :(, the G-10 under the clip :( and the fact i got the older one with the high clip :(, BUT other then that i love it! great ergos, really comfortable, FUNCTIONS, sharp blade (love drop points) and really strong plus easy to conceal.
Hey nutn, I would really love a review on the lonewolf blackfoot you mentioned in the video description. I just saw it yesterday on a knife website, and have been thinking of ordering one, just want to know what you think if it......Even just a comment reply telling me if it is a good choice for medium/heavy use tactical/EDC folder? That would be great thanks.
If you look at your favorite place to buy and note the picture of this mini Lawman look then at the pocket clip location compared to your knife or the one pictured on New Graham Knives web site. It appears Cold Steel changed the clip position to improve it.
this knife's a complete dud along with the american lawman..im more interested in that lone wolf blackfoot..cant wait for the review. im sold on the longhorn, which is essentially the same as the blackfoot, but its a bit big for me.
Received my Cold Steel Mini Lawman today. Great knife my lock up was very tight no side to side movement at all. It's a great EDC knife especially in states that you can't conceal anything larger than a 2.5 in blade. I like the chunky feel of the knife but don't like the clip.
Nice review. I would have liked to see this compared side by side to the Spyderco Native. The Native may not hang with the larger Lawman but the mini is worthless as EDC compared ot the Native. Then again, Cold Steel does a lot of things right (see Bushman fixed blade) but they are not premium folders nor worth the same money as other brands out there (Native $45). The grip is nice on the min LM but overkill really.
Hey Nutn, your "mechanix" gloves are a size to large - they're made to fit skintight, lest they shift around and reduce tactility, esp. fingertip grip strength.
As for that Cold Steel Mini Lawman knife, it's made in Taiwan, so it should be a much less expensive knife than $45. Why buy China made steel that costs as much as US made?
Great review love the HD I just order one of these from Your Corner Store. I with you I don't like the clip with they would make it like my SOG Trident or my SOG Twitch XL but I can live with that but thanks for helping me decide to purchase the Mini Lawman.

But it doesn't look like Rambo's knife. waaaaaah! I didn't see chef tony throwing tomatoes at it. waaaaaah. Sorry man, no audience clapping on cue= fail, unless it is $19.99 with a meat cleaver thrown in. Ok Ok, it's a sexy and sturdy blade. I like a grip on a Gerber better. There are soooo many of these kinds of knives around and they should get a more aggressive blade with a hyde ripper on the back in case I want to use it on a deer instead of a homo trying to steal my underwear.

about the location and design of pocket clips, i totally agree with you! i don't like it on many knives. i hate this one and i am not getting this knife. i wish more knives had a clip like the sog flash.
Cold Steel is making design mistakes more oftenly than before. And charging a lot more of cash for their old good ones. Specially Traimaster and Recon Scout in Carbon V steel. They actualy cost the same or more than the San Mai III versions on Ebay. All Thanks to our good Nutn! whys everyone talking so much shit? this guys going out of his way to provide YOU with product reviews. why dont you guys make better reviews without moving your lips?
By the way guys, the comment from spitism about jumping off the cliff is in relation to another guy being a dick about nutn. Its not aimed at nutn. Its not a bad comment.
I don't like Bear Grylls that much myself. Survivor man should be his teacher of survival. I'm not a hater of Bear, it's just like someone in this chat said, he shows you what he can do not what you can do.
Yea, Les Stroud (not 100% on the spelling) is better, he goes out and tries new gear when he can and you get to see it in action and he teaches you what you can do as the survivor.
Survivor man is always so scared to sweat that it pisses me off (I get why, ok. in a survival situation it could get you into trouble, but for fuck sake!!) every episode he bitches about sweating, finds a stream and films his fat ass swimming naked in it. and that harmonica!! I wish he'd loose it somewhere.
first off who the fuck care if he is wearing gloves!~ yall are sum fagits.. second NF who care if the smaller knife has the big lock its a good thing..you hit a knife with a tree and it breaks and then u bitch. but when they make a knife that is thick and heavy duty u bitch..stop bitchin
Its been knife review extravaganza lately to my disappointment. Granted, reviewing firearms is a little more challenging especially if you wanna shoot some rounds off, it costs money.
lol, when you started wearing the gloves I was like "I bet he cut himself again." and then you yank the glove off and sure enough there's another big gash on your hand.
Great review, I love how you actually show how the knife rides in your pants, if you could do that in your future reviews, that would be awesome! Keep up the great work.
EDC items are things you'd carry on a regular (daily) basis.
An EDC blade is a knife used to handle the mundane cutting tasks in one's life. Focusing on lightweight, compactness, and mobility, EDC blades are well suited for this role. The same characteristics that make a knife suitable for EDC typically preclude it from being a hard use survival or tactical/defensive blade.
I am left wondering if maybe this is supposed to also be a defensive blade, as might be implied by the naming scheme. That would explain the choice of stronger lock, perhaps extra bulk for strength, and even the lower clip, which would make it easier to deploy in an emergency situation.
Dang I just love the look of that lonewolf... can't wait for the review... I don't even have anything to say about the mini lawman. I just don't like it.
I know the two knives are dissimilar in weight and size, but the Rat 1 folder that you reviewed way back whenever is also AUS 8 steel and I just bought another one from YCS for $25.72 . Best deal on the internet or anywhere else for that matter. I still love my benchmade 940 above all else but for an everyday beater this takes the cake!
Great review as usual. Referencing other knives always helps me decide on a knife. However I am becoming less and less a fan of Cold Steel these days.
Thanx for that review , i was going to buy the mini lawman ,, but now i think i will pass , not impressed with that knife at all Nutn just saved me $60.00 THANX !!
Nutnfancy is there ever a blade that you think is too light? I'm not a fan of heavy knives as you always share, but with these smaller knives I like a little weight (not a ton) to them as balance and that is important in my big clumsy hand. Saves me from doing the stupid impromptu spaz dance getting out of the way of the knife I just accidentally dropped! Definitely uncool factor.
I use my voyager at work all the time so I like that some of the knife sticks out of my pocket. It makes it easier to get ahold of when I need it, which is often. Maybe it's not soo good for going through the woods? I can see that being a problem.
I have this knife and for an EDC I love it, but when I opened it out of the box same problem with the blade, blunt as hell, 25 minutes of diamond wetstone later, pretty good.
I also find the clip really stiff to clip on, Ive added a lanyard to it and just let it sit inside any pockets with the lanyard hanging out to retrieve, not perfect but it works, I give it a 7/10
this knife looks awesome! i just wish the pocket clip was set so that i would carry deeper in the pocket other than that i would welcome its strong lock and i really dig the blade shape.

Probobly because hes fiddling with a knife a little more than usual, to avoid cuts.
Or maybe it just shows how well one could handle it with gloves on, for police officers, contractors or service men and women.

Spartiansoldier 2 years ago
Yea, Les Stroud (not 100% on the spelling) is better, he goes out and tries new gear when he can and you get to see it in action and he teaches you what you can do as the survivor.
astaschak 2 years ago
Survivor man is always so scared to sweat that it pisses me off (I get why, ok. in a survival situation it could get you into trouble, but for fuck sake!!) every episode he bitches about sweating, finds a stream and films his fat ass swimming naked in it. and that harmonica!! I wish he'd loose it somewhere.
sniffsnarff 2 years ago
haha he did, he made it into a spear in the island episode. He might have gotten a new one.

I would like you to do a review of the blackfoot!
sliskigt 2 years ago 2
Its been knife review extravaganza lately to my disappointment. Granted, reviewing firearms is a little more challenging especially if you wanna shoot some rounds off, it costs money.
Alizee111 2 years ago
the gloves thingy really sucks NF

well articulated, I prefer my skyline. heck I think I would prefer the drifter over it too. thanks for all you do.

What's the point of putting a tri-ad lock in a knife with no steel liners...?
stealthbeast 2 years ago
lol, when you started wearing the gloves I was like "I bet he cut himself again." and then you yank the glove off and sure enough there's another big gash on your hand.

Nice gloves! I use those to work on my car. $10 bucks says you bought them in the PX
elwill0207 2 years ago

MotherFucker45 2 years ago
I haven't asked, but you'd probably win that bet about the PX. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

Great review, I love how you actually show how the knife rides in your pants, if you could do that in your future reviews, that would be awesome! Keep up the great work.

Every
Day
Carry
EDC items are things you'd carry on a regular (daily) basis.
An EDC blade is a knife used to handle the mundane cutting tasks in one's life. Focusing on lightweight, compactness, and mobility, EDC blades are well suited for this role. The same characteristics that make a knife suitable for EDC typically preclude it from being a hard use survival or tactical/defensive blade.

It seems like cold steels are either a hit or a miss with everyone.
KatanaFish213 2 years ago
Gotta admit, thats a nice looking knife.
JohnTheRipper723 2 years ago
I am left wondering if maybe this is supposed to also be a defensive blade, as might be implied by the naming scheme. That would explain the choice of stronger lock, perhaps extra bulk for strength, and even the lower clip, which would make it easier to deploy in an emergency situation.

Right there in the end, it looks as if those other knives suggested also had lanyard holes. Was I just seeing things?

Dang I just love the look of that lonewolf... can't wait for the review... I don't even have anything to say about the mini lawman. I just don't like it.
tabre 2 years ago
I know the two knives are dissimilar in weight and size, but the Rat 1 folder that you reviewed way back whenever is also AUS 8 steel and I just bought another one from YCS for $25.72 . Best deal on the internet or anywhere else for that matter. I still love my benchmade 940 above all else but for an everyday beater this takes the cake!

I'm so tired hearing about cold steel.........

Great review as usual. Referencing other knives always helps me decide on a knife. However I am becoming less and less a fan of Cold Steel these days.

Great vid!
kaziklu79 2 years ago
Nutnfancy is there ever a blade that you think is too light? I'm not a fan of heavy knives as you always share, but with these smaller knives I like a little weight (not a ton) to them as balance and that is important in my big clumsy hand. Saves me from doing the stupid impromptu spaz dance getting out of the way of the knife I just accidentally dropped! Definitely uncool factor.

if u decide to duracoat the handle, does it lose it's gripiness or the grooves r deep and wide enough that it won't affect it
and the question on everybody's mind, will u duracoat it/them (all the knives u showed)
kurlis 2 years ago
if you use one of the totally flat colors they are actually quite grippy in and of themselves.
flakey1337 2 years ago
could the pocket clip be modified or moved to a differnt position to make it more covient location i.e. drilling a hole in the handle
baker972 2 years ago
That pocket clip is simply horrible. When I am carrying a knife I don't want ANYONE to know I have it on me.
SOG makes the best pocket clips, though I wish they as adjustable as Spyderco's. They're my two favorite brands.
After this video and Nutnfancy's review of the pocket bushman, I will be staying away from Cold Steel for quite a while.

For $15 dollars more, get the Benchmade mini-grip. It's worth it. Why is the Mini Lawman so expensive?

I use my voyager at work all the time so I like that some of the knife sticks out of my pocket. It makes it easier to get ahold of when I need it, which is often. Maybe it's not soo good for going through the woods? I can see that being a problem.
jboritzki 2 years ago
I have this knife and for an EDC I love it, but when I opened it out of the box same problem with the blade, blunt as hell, 25 minutes of diamond wetstone later, pretty good.
I also find the clip really stiff to clip on, Ive added a lanyard to it and just let it sit inside any pockets with the lanyard hanging out to retrieve, not perfect but it works, I give it a 7/10
