If anyone argued like this is real life they would be shot. the more I look back on my LD experience in high school compared to my college experiences debating in an academic setting with PHDs in Philosophy the more I realized how pathetic and sad that this format really has become. If you want to expand your mind read and discuss with intelligent friends and go to lectures by major universities, don't waste your brain on this crap
@General8675 Remember, this is a High School debate. This is basically practice. Like any skill, it requires practice. You have to start small and work your way up. You don't just jump into the big leagues right away and expect results. That's like someone expecting to jump into the NFL without going to high school football and college football. Not going to happen unless your divinely blessed with amazing skill. Odds of that...0.0000001%. Give these kids the respect they deserve, Douche!
this is my first year in debate. If I got all of my cards from victory briefs does that mean I will get owned tomorrow at my tournament? And I'm scared because idk what to say in a rebuttal can anybody help me?
@leerph I weep every time I see a L-D debater using Net Ben as a criterion. Makes me wondering if I'm watching Public Forum, or the great philosophy debate.
@MrDjac10 no, are you kidding me? we have a lot of LDers go to nationals every year, we belong to a great league in california. but i dont use net benefits like the way you think. i use it to show that our current system is much better, moral, etc. than any new system that the Aff. tries to bring, and its unjust to not realize the good from our current system
the resolution tag line is incorrect. It states that they OUGHT TO BE tried as adults, not SHOULD be.......it seems like a silly flaw to point out I know but when the word OUGHT is used it opens up a possibility for a moral framework of the round (which is what I saw a lot of for this topic). This is also the reason that the UIL topic: free trade SHOULD be valued above protectionism, is worded the way that it is.
@AddisonNicole7806 It's not a silly flaw, because should implies that a plan need to be enacted. So by changing ought to should, they changed the debate form LD to Policy. i cant believe she used net . This is a debate about philosophy.
She didnt explain her criterion or value wtf? The value-critereon should be the majorijty of your case

@L0NGB0ARD420 I'll help. If you have time send me a copy of your case and I'll edit it. I've been to nationals 2 times in LD.

Just saying that 1: I just got put in LD so i can't really make tooooo many comments but i do have some.
-Yes Saying um is not ok at all.
-I didnt know you were suppossed to staright-forwardly announce your critirian and value at beggining. Shouldnt it be obvious already?
-and Your claim, warrant and impact in each of your critirians was not very clear.
-Also, your debate opponent had a very good point with most of his questions.
-Overall.........it could use work.

This round is interesting however :)

@AddisonNicole7806 yeah, but all Lincoln-Douglas debates are morality debates, hence the need for a value and criterion.

@AddisonNicole7806
definition of should: ought (to be or do something)
definition of ought: moral obligation to do something
