Right, this is more about the fighters than styles. You can see, that the styles are quite comperable. Even i european civilization were many of famous fighters through all the time (Achilles, Leonidas, Spartakus, Charles the Great, John the Blind, Talhöfer, Angelo...) but because of Hollywood we can know mostly the stories of the Asian heroes...guite a shame...

As history shows, far eastern armies (Chinse, Japanese) consistantly produce better individial warriors than Western armies (French, English, German). But we have been lied to by Hollywood. In real life, Europeans, in battles, usualy have insanely lower casualties than asian armies (not counting the Mongols). This is because in much of Far Eastern culture, it is either to score a faultless victory, or to die a dramatic death. While this produces a firce warrior, it ends up with a bad army.

No, the replication of the fight was 1 v 1, and the spartan won. No group fighting tactics. No eastern weapon carried by the samurai could do any dmg to the spartan shield. Getting hit by the shield had the same impact of a car accident, enough to knock someone out or straight up kill them. They did Spartans vs Ninja and Spartan vs Samurai. Spartans won both contest because of the shield. Both contests were 1 v 1. The Aspis was too much for them to handle, a solid wall of bronze.

There isn't a single confirmed account of any Hoplite killing anyone with their shield, nor are their any accounts of any Spartan acheiving reknown in single combat. They depended entirely on the shield wall. Any time they lost it they were trounced. So yes, Deadliest Warrior is full of it.
Special Weapons- Aspis 382, Kusarigama 220, (kills out of 1000) That is Spartan vs Ninja.

Reason for the low European casualties (Medieval) is because knights would not normally kill other knights, they kept them for ransom. And the reason for the large casualities, especially in Ancient China, was that they have much more soldier in a single battle and they spared no one on the battlefield. Good or bad army didn't always related to casualties , especially in the old days
@Lemoney100 not nessacarily, history shows that chinese and japanese armies fought till death because of the honor system, if they ran or defected they would be dishonored. however, their leaders and commanders saw them as easily expendable. western armies dont have that same level of honor or conviction to their cause. they will run or defect before they die in most cases. only when we have a cause we see worth dieing for do we fight so fiercely (WW1, WW2)

Fedor Emelianenko fights with rules. The character of this movie really existed and he teached Europeans that Asia is not a continent of sick people! Btw, at this kind of tournaments they were expected to fight without rules, or with European style rules.
Anyway, Europe also has great martial styles, the sword/esgrima/claymore tecniques, for instance. But sadly, most of European martial styles were lost after the invention of powder.

I dont think so. Chinese had very well-developed martial arts during the time of Confucius and Sun Tzu (500BC). Indian had some influences on Chinese in medieval time. Japanese also had its native martial art and later influenced by Chinese. Mongols, Manchurians all had their own forms of wrestling.

As history shows, far eastern armies (Chinse, Japanese) consistantly produce better individial warriors than Western armies (French, English, German). But we have been lied to by Hollywood. In real life, Europeans, in battles, usualy have insanely lower casualties than asian armies (not counting the Mongols). This is because in much of Far Eastern culture, it is either to score a faultless victory, or to die a dramatic death. While this produces a firce warrior, it ends up with a bad army.

@elti54 Agree with your sentement, but in general, Spartan armies were greatly suplimented with other Greeks, because Sparta was equvilant in size to Washington DC, while Japanese armies had Samuria in proportion to medieval Western armies with knights, so you argument in invalid. But you have to Admit, Eastern armies tend to emphasize individual warriors, while even Spartans focus more on group cohesion.

No, the replication of the fight was 1 v 1, and the spartan won. No group fighting tactics. No eastern weapon carried by the samurai could do any dmg to the spartan shield. Getting hit by the shield had the same impact of a car accident, enough to knock someone out or straight up kill them. They did Spartans vs Ninja and Spartan vs Samurai. Spartans won both contest because of the shield. Both contests were 1 v 1. The Aspis was too much for them to handle, a solid wall of bronze.

@elti54 Deadliest Warrior is full of crock. A REAL Aspis is wood with a very thin layer of bronze. Bronze/wrought iron weapons could pierce it; a samurai's folded steel weapons would go through it easy. Plus in a 1 on 1 fight a Spartan would have no idea what to do as he's been conditioned his entire life to think and act only as part of a shield wall. You think samurai are overhyped? That's nothing compared to the lies told about Spartans.

@elti54 Yeah, that "best in simulation" was made by a company best known for shoddy, low-quality games. There isn't a single confirmed account of any Hoplite killing anyone with their shield, nor are their any accounts of any Spartan acheiving reknown in single combat. They depended entirely on the shield wall. Any time they lost it they were trounced. So yes, Deadliest Warrior is full of it.

Special Weapons -Aspis 162, Kanabo 142, (kills out of 1000) that is spartan vs Samurai.
On a side not, they did Samurai vs Vikings 1 on 1, and it was one of the closest matches they had with the Samurai barely edging the viking. The problem is people romanticize asian fighting styles. They almost lost to VIKINGS, with little to no structure. Drunken long sword usin' vikings.

@Lemoney100 the only asian fighting unit that ran the show was in unarmoured combat and it was the shaoilin monk. When it comes to unarmoured combat they run show. However they never ran the Apache Warrior vs Shaoilin monk, and im pretty sure the Shaoilin monk would get destroyed by the Apache Warrior. Their ability to throw knives is just retarded. Kill shots from 15 feet out with a knife. Not to mention a bow and arrow. If it ever got to melee the apache would get destroy but... big IF.

Reason for the low European casualties (Medieval) is because knights would not normally kill other knights, they kept them for ransom. And the reason for the large casualities, especially in Ancient China, was that they have much more soldier in a single battle and they spared no one on the battlefield. Good or bad army didn't always related to casualties , especially in the old days

@Lemoney100 not nessacarily, history shows that chinese and japanese armies fought till death because of the honor system, if they ran or defected they would be dishonored. however, their leaders and commanders saw them as easily expendable. western armies dont have that same level of honor or conviction to their cause. they will run or defect before they die in most cases. only when we have a cause we see worth dieing for do we fight so fiercely (WW1, WW2)

Yet even these use unit tactics (such as the phalanx), rather than the Asiatic tradition of Large armies that fight individually (Japanese, and the fore mentioned Persian armies that lack group cohesion).

I dont think so. Chinese had very well-developed martial arts during the time of Confucius and Sun Tzu (500BC). Indian had some influences on Chinese in medieval time. Japanese also had its native martial art and later influenced by Chinese. Mongols, Manchurians all had their own forms of wrestling.
