Alan Bergman and Mariyn Bergman were in my humble opinion two of the best writers in the great American Songbook. - This is one my favorite's of theirs.
I love Sting singing this ,there is more than one way to sing a song and Sting outdid himself on this by doing it jazz style, what a performance , two greats on the same stage and this is from someone who is a diehard Johnny Mathis fan
This song done by Sting and Chris is truly dessert for the soul. Smooth, sexy and delicious. Just makes you smile to yourself as you relish in the sound. Can't help but think of love, romance and passion. It is just soooooo good. Everyone has had that moment that you pull out of your memory that just warms the blood and this song is a trigger.
@maggymayi2 Wish you could receive the full enrichment with Jack Jones singing it with a modern musical score backing him as his voice and musical styling are far superior to that of String in spite of the fact Sting is a fine singer. Check out Jones singing it live in a video in 2009 and bear in mind his age. For me, the great trumpet work of Mr Botti does not cut it on this song its out of place and is a take away. .
Great performance by Chris and Sting! One of the most beautiful songs ever written. I recorded this song on my new vocal collection of love songs "The Glory of Love" - (standards & contemporary songs), to be officially released October 26, 2010. Christopher Loudon with JazzTimes writes about the project in his "Healing Voices" column, JazzTimes, October 18, 2010. May this great song continue to be heard!
I much prefer the Botti/Sting version than Streisand's. She has an amazing voice but is a "formula" singer, i.e. all her songs use the same technique: dramatic pauses, halting half breaths, sliding up and down the scales. Certain songs require a certain voice. In my opinion she doesn't have real emotion/feelings, just style. Sting/Botti perform this as a duet, playing off yet complementing each other.
@LoneGunNut I think for a man performing this song is just so good... but if it were a woman I prefer Lara Fabian she can pull this song like butter and melt it in your ears hmmmm * But for guys they just pull it off perfectly Sting has such a dramatic sexy voice too good for words... ($_#)
I'm agreeing with the comment that Chris Botti (trumpet) should get together with Barbra Steisand, diva of song and soul, to record this song. Perhaps we can suggest it on their Web sites, why not as we are the fans. Both soulful musicians...Sting is great but I don't feel the song like I do when Barbra sings it.
NO BODY Does it better than STING! I love this version of the song. He exudes romance... and Mr. Botti how talented he is. Just close your eyes and feel the music... if you don't love it you have no soul, no ears, no romance ...
I completely Agree!! I love STING! and with BOTTI.. it is so romantically sexy!! It just takes me to another place.. another time.. Thank goodness for small pleasures!! and such AMAZING talent in these two!
Botti does well, and the jazz arranger has introduced some good harmonies. But sorry Sting does not have the musicality to perform this famous song convincingly. See the composer's (Michel Legrand) version or Streisand's for a better idea of what is intended with this song.
My wife and I made this song our first dance together at our wedding reception. Had a live band and an excellent singer from the local university. Thinking about it and how beautiful she looked still chokes me up two years later. Best day of my life.
@LoneGunNut Wow..What words..I hope to find someone to love forever..Your words are my hope..Blessings..Christopher from a town Bellport village,,NY 11713

The combination of Sting and Chris Botti is one of the best things that ever happened to music!

Sorry Sting should stick to his kind of music, pop jazz, he does a reasonable job of this but people have done it better, Botti is great.

Why is Sting wearing a scarf. He comes from upper Geordieland for goodness sakes from where hard men like Jimmy Nail hail.

Michael Dees who sang the original on the ST of the movie was the best version of the vocal, however, I do love Sting's version as well.

I have heard the Streisand version, and I am a huge fan of her, but Chris Botti makes this amazing...maybe he should get together with Babs!!!

I love the quiet, husky tone of Sting's voice against Chris' tone. I've always thought they played amazingly off one another.

I can't find the correct words to describe this song and Botti and Sting's version of it. Unbelievable, spectacular, magnificent sound trivial.
