Was the Midnights' face turn before or after this match? I know the Cornette-Dangerously feud wasn't long after this. If they weren't faces, then pretty damn good heel VS. heel match.
@DefLeppardVanHalen I had forgotten about the Midnights-Horsemen feud. Something about Arn and Bobby being good friends, but then friction popping up, causing Cornette and the Midnights being cheered or something like that.
The NWA dropped the ball on The Road Warriors winning the World Tag Team titles. They should've been champions back in 1986 or even 1985 when they returned from the AWA.
@ecuacuban Exactly. They should've been at Starrcade 85 against The Russians for the titles. They should've beaten The Rock N Roll Express back in 86, I would've liked to have seen that feud. And they should've beaten the Midnight Express, which they did, but Dusty turning them heel as a big F-U to Jim Crockett & the NWA kinda taints their title run because it made no sense to turn them heel only to turn face no more than a few months later.
@chrishollister80 I read Animal's book. He said the reason they didn't get titles was they didn't need them to "Get them over" The Midnight Express were a lot more as the champions compared to not having the title or atleast competing with RnR for them. Plus Hawk was very unrealiable with his attitude and drug usage, being the champs meant being more reliable to the company, which Hawk probalby didn't want to do?
@donaldc5166 Hmm, interesting. Makes sense. Yeah Hawk, sadly was hooked on drugs. It's so sad because so many of the legends and would-be legends of the 80s died over drug usage. I can imagine that's the reason why other stars who should have been champs never was either.
stan lane had some really weak looking offense. Most of those kicks looked pathetic and fake. I know the Warriors were probably pissed to have to see those shots. Great angle, tho. Classic!
Two of greatest tag teams of all time. This was right before the Midnight Express started their feud with the Original Midnight Express managed by Paul E. Dangerously. The Midnights actually played the role of faces for a while after this. At the same time, the fans were supposed to hate the Road Warriors but we were still cheering for them.
It's not that the fans didn't want them to turn heel, the fans just decided they wanted to cheer for them no matter what. This was the first example of turning someone heel backfiring. The same thing happened when Austin turned heel in 2001. The fans still wanted to cheer for him, so after several months, he went back to being the same anti-McMahon Austin he was before. In this case, when the fans continued to cheer for the LOD, they had match them up against real heels, like the Varsity Club.
i think it was a good turning them heel, the horsemen broke up and they needed some heels but nwa didnt give it a chance i like when the fought sting, luger and rhodes because the were face heels witch was a first so i liked it... the only yhing i didnt like is the express didnt get a rematch
@TheUnforgiven2012 Dusty and JCP made a huge mistake when they decided to turn the Warriors Heel. The fans were behind them 200%, they didn't wanted to see them Heels.
@JonathanVonErich The Road Warriors had been Heels in both The NWA and The AWA 4 years earlier, but the Fans cheered them anyway. Dusty Rhodes should not have been surprised that fans still cheered them when they became Heels
@JonathanVonErich On the contrary. The fans couldn't wait for them to turn heel because it revisited a period when they started their legend. Pro Wrestling Illustrated teased their heel turn right after the Powers of Pain left, saying they had an old edge to them. I remember when they first aired the promo of their heel turn, showing Sting getting carried out on a stretcher. Everyone got a preview of the return of the old sadistic Road Warriors. It was a great angle but destined to fail.
Hawk was a bad ass!

@johnissoevil True, Arn and Bobby are good friends, but it was Jim Cornette and Stan Lane's jealousy that caused the feud.

LmAo @ 5:10. Leave it to Hawk to leave an exclamation mark at the end of a physical statement. Great match considering the angle in it.
