Apparently the best way to select a processor platform is to identify which brand has the largest number of frothing retarded fanbois. Unfortunately, they seem to be neck-and-neck at this point.
@Soap442 and we really hate AMD fanboys talking shit about Intel processors, get a fucking life there CPU's for god's sake AMD and Intel are both great companys though Intel is always a step ahead of the game then AMD
AMD's Bulldozer processor might look good on paper but we will see how it stacks up to Intel's flagship 980x and 2600k sandy Bridge which btw are still breaking records, especially the 2600k
Well right now my Intel i5 750 @ 2.66GHz is equal to an AMD Phenom II at about 3.4GHz. Mine was $20 more but I can OC MUCH more with my i5 then I could have with a PII.
meh been with amd forever but tbh a 4 core int is clocking with a 6 core amd lets just be honest but then again amd is always 2 cores ahead so their pretty =equal just my oppion
@orkie55 actually APU is better than most intel counterparts, it has 4 cores and better graphics. But ofcourse you could buy like an alienware and get better preformance. this is ment for like a light gamer and not the "ZOMG 100fps on Crysis" gamer.
Why do so many of you morons fight over Intel and AMD? They are both great processors, with unique advantages, whether it be speed or price. Both fill niches. Get an effing life already and stop the 'fanboyism'!
Just a question. Minus the nerds that give a flying fuck about their virtual dicks who in the name of ass gives a shit about some 3dvantage/06 score, i mean long as computer is fast and games dont slow down cus of CPU its irrellevant what cpu you have.
(that is 1 reason why i chose AMD Phenom II, way cheap and good performance)
@olveraomar When I'm gaming, speed is VERY important because of the incredible clarity and detail involved in state-of-the-art 3D games. That's why I chose AMD. It left me with extra money to sink into my 2 Radeon HD 4870s. Intel wouldn't have let me do that. Also, my 2 year old K9A2 Platinum motherboard will accept the Phenom II X6 CPUs. AMD made 3 sockets, the AM2, the AM2+ and the AM3. AM3 CPUs will work in AM2 (as long as the TDP is 95W or lower) and AM2+ (all TDPs accepted).
@olveraomar If I had gone the Intel route, I'd be stuck with a socket 775 motherboard and I'd have to get either an LGA1156, LGA1155 or LGA1366 motherboard in order to upgrade.
Both offer high performance processors- Intel's higher end modles being the best and greatest while AMD offering decent performance for a competitive price.
Both have good thermal managment-45nm and smaller transistor processors.
Both are efficiant.
AMD was better than Intel back in the 90's
Intel with it's core architecture is better than AMD today.
I run a server with the AMD athlon slot a and it is quite fast.
lol and then shortly after this intel released its 64bit processor and owned the living shit out of amd, they probably wish they never made this commercial (probably why it was never aired... ) LOL
I understand that boys and their toys want the biggest number to flash on their screen but why not build a computer that does the job, something not too exotic, something not too shabby.
Besides, if no sole domestic application uses the raw processing power of 4 CPU's > 2Ghz, why do I need a 4.5Ghz Quad core, well all that I know is my power bill will go up. I mean sure its fun, but not practical all the time
@TheCompyshop The AMDs are way more power hungry. And the heatsink and socket designs are rubbish. I don't know how many times I'd take the heatsink off an AMD and the CPU has come with and wrecked the pins.
@uzaiyaro ehh ur thinking older sockets. i havent had any problem with am2+ or am3 at all. and there not much more power hungry than intels, but the main reason they use more power is because of 45nm technology. 32nm amd is coming soon tho so no worries. also coming with new sockets if i remember correctly
@Woxy019 Well, technologically speaking, yes.... but Intel just pounds the ass right off of you unnecessarily, and then screws you in it with their high prices.

Who the fuck gives a 1000$ for a just a one processor....thats stupid...id rather buy amd phenom 2 965 which is 190$ and just about 20% slower than a 1000$ processor...fuck that...for that money you can buy from AMD processor, motherboard, graphic card... dont be naive people
@em11613 Whats all this crap about 1000$ for a cpu? you know that the 150$ i5 760 is faster then the phenom 2 965 , right? and its not 1000$ so go and fuck urself
@orkie55 well... Intel is faster no question about that, but the overall performance of a computer does not solely rely on the processor, you should include into consideration the graphics card, and the motherboard components and as well as the interconnect.. And yeah i agree with em11613, intel is overpriced..
Example.. compare the celeron and sempron atleast.
@orkie55 No, but I do know that AMD's 6-core is only $250 and Intels is $1000. And the profromance is not 1/5 of Intels like the price suggests. its more like Intel is 25% better but the price is 500% more
@orkie55 a friend of mine has a quad i5(3xx euros) and I have a athlon ll x3 445 and I unlocked it and I have a phenom ll quad x4 and in windows 7 rating my friend has 7,2 and I have 7,3. (I have 2mb lvl 2 and 6mb lvl 3)
IMPORTANT: my processor cost less than 100euros, SRRY MY BAD ENGLISH.
@AMDsupreme You are wrong, AMD's 6core CPU's does get beated by intels 4core cpu's. So AMD has nothing that even comes close to the intel 6core cpu's. At all. Get your facts right. Time for you to actually start doin some research if you seriously believe that AMD's 6cores are in pair with intel's 6cores.
@orkie55 Lol, orkie is right, i7 950, a 4-core is clocked at the same speeds at the AMD 6-core at the same price. Intel 6 core is just unmatchable as of right now.
you god damn intel fans like the word fanboy because it makes you sound smarter...
you also think that just because Intel processors cost four times as much as their AMD counterparts that it means they're four times faster. Intel is just overpriced shit. It's the same performance as AMD, it's just way more advertised, so it's going to cost more.
You don't know what you're talking about! At the moment, AMD is way behind Intel.. Take a look at benchmarks, these are facts... Intel Core i7 cannot be compared to any AMD processor on the market.. that's why its cost is higher than AMD's one. So when you're saying "It's the same performance as AMD" it's false. Intel processors have more Mb of L3 Cache than AMD processors and some of their processors supports DDR3 Triple Channel Memory, AMD's one don't. Sorry but, Intel is better..
Well AMD is a little below the top intel stuff right now (i7) but for cost to performance you cant beat AMD, they are the only computers I have ever built and will build, I thought about going with the i7 but it was 1k for cpu alone then another 300 for the board. Get a full PII 965 and board for 400 and it performs the same in games. Make no mistake, if I were encoding or video rendering/editing, the i7 would be like 2 sec faster. $185 to $1000, whos the real winner?
today, amd's 12 core opteron is the fastest cpu on the market, its $500 cheaper than the intel competitor, around 20W less power consuming, and operates over a full ghz lower than the competing xeon. amd's phenom II x6 is faster than about half of the i7s and around $300 cheaper
@schmidtbag x6 faster than i7 hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha my i5 sandy is more fast than x6 1100t and the mac with intel is the most fastest with 12 core and 24 way
@FEGTTTSDH i said this an entire year ago, and your comment about the mac makes no sense at all. judging by your very poor grammar it doesn't surprise me that you don't pay close attention to details.
@FEGTTTSDH No way dude, I agree with the i7 and i5 being faster then the 1100t but the Mac Pro with the 12 core processor is not faster infact it is slower then some PC's a i7 980x oc'd and 2600k oc'd wipe the floor with the mac pro, dont believe me ? ... Google it the benchmarks will tell you the rest ...
@kevinsupra90 intel is a giant and has some of the best engineers worldwide. They DO come up with faster processors then AMD but they cost much much more. I'd rather buy an AMD which is say 15% slower but 50% cheaper than an intel processor...just saying.
@nokiaowner well it does not mean, if you are a big company.. you have the best engineers worldwide... but i totally agree with you.. AMD is certainly the smarter choice.
@orkie55 Intel and Intel fans have the same problems Chevrolet seems to have. They run synthetic benchmark tests (or in Chevrolet's case, read the brochure) and say "LOOK! It has more megawhatsits of power!" While in the new Corvettes, Chevy claims massive power, but when you put the car on a track, you find that most of that raw engine power is lost due to shitty supporting components, and ruining real world performance. Intels have bigger numbers, but their chipsets ruin actual performance.
guys seriously, stop merging the price vs performance argument. amd might be cheaper but if you take pricing out if it then intel do make the better CPU's
Yes finally some people are fucking smart, the only people who buy inSTEAL are fucking morons who know jack shit about computers and love paying for overpriced junk.
omfg you poor amd fanboys, you cant compare product that costs 150 dollars and the one that cost 500-700 it's clearly intel wins in gaming and everything else an i5 beats best amds procesor,i7 rapes it so please amd fanboys if your poor and cant afford intel i7's please stop saying that 965be pwns 975 or 920 coz it's not....
AMD blows Intel away in every possible way. Intel is for noobs who buy systems without understanding pcs. Anyone with any sense of reality would see that AMD thrashes ALL shitty Intel proccessors.
not so much for gaming, AMD optimizes its all its cores for gaming when Intel takes this core to process this game and this core to process windows and programs and only devotes half of what its capable of to your game. Intel is more for a media person opening like 6 browsers and 10 programs and 5 other things at once. AMD is more for gaming.
I wouldn't even say AMD is more for gaming... my dad flips out when I start mentioning how much faster my AMD plays games, but he admits that he builds using AMD processors because they're bulletproof, fast and affordable. AMDs are the Linux of CPUs. hahaha, then watch Cyrix make a comeback.
Wait till BullDozer comes out instead of making virtual cores its going to take multithreaded apps and stream them into one. With 4-6-8-12 REAL cores its going to own, assuming Intel sits on their ass. I do hope in one hand but shit usually fills up the other hand first.
@addz17 Yeah, i would stick with what you've got. The x6 is better for multitasking, but for gaming, you would need serious cooling to keep that bad boy from getting to hot from overclocking. Needless to say, the 3.2ghz x6 will outperform a 3.2ghz x4 no matter how you slice it :D
@addz17 for phenom ii x4 say wehey!! but for new amd 6 core phenom ii x6.. its a total epic fail! ! in most games phenom ii x4 got more fps!. im not an amd though... hail for the i7 users!! hyper threading ftw!.
Thats an unfair add, pentium 3 is older than athlon and not in the same league - put one up against a p4 (same league) and watch the athlon get its socks blown off!
Sorry, you don't know your CPU history. The Athlon hit the market just 6 months after the P3 (with backside cache) did, and about 4 months before the P3 with onboard cache did. P4 wouldn't hit the market for another 1 and a half years.
Also, when the P4 came out in December 2000, it came out in 1.4 and 1.5 GHz speeds, and had its ass handed to it by 1.2 GHz Athlons. The only advantage was high memory bandwidth and that advantage disappeared with the release of the Athlon 64 in 2003.
Also, P4 wasn't relevant until the release of the 845 DDR chipset with Socket 478, and a revised Northwood core, almost a year after the P4 hit the market.
The 1.8GHz P4 was routinely spanked performance wise by a 1.3GHz Athlon or a 1.4GHz Tualatin CELERON!
intel are good however they overprice their fucking processors that only a wealthy one can buy an i7. AMD used to be shit because their processors fried without a heatsink but they solved the problem now, there releasing 6 cores next year, (i think) for me its amd, intel, your fucking redicilous with the prices.
Haha.. I really don't care what benchmarking applications have to say tbh.
For me, All that I want is performance for the price that I pay and I guess most people here might agree with that thought. At the end of the day what will surprise anyone is the performance they experience from a cheaper processor.
And to be honest, I've seen absolutely ZERO real world difference when I'm gaming on both platforms. Its just the benchmarking applications that will show the difference :)
and if you are still rocking hardware from back when your choices were the P4 Prescott core @ 3.0 ghz, or the new Athlon64 Newcastle @ 2.0 ghz, and the AMD was faster, its makes a lasting statement. I've had it overclocked running for about 90% of the last 6 years. Stable, no issues.
I've been using 2 AMD CPUs.. One running Athlon XP and the other running Sempron from quite a long time. Probably 8 or 10 years. The Sempron system is 5 years old.
Both of them work absolutely fine!
For people who think that AMD runs hot, Its just the ventilation on the Casing that makes all the difference. My computers have long uptimes. They've never had any problems till date!
Im also building a new computer with Phenom II x4 955, ATI Radeon HD 5870.
it would be better if u got a I7 instead of a phenom :D my frined have one, i beat him with my core 2 duo, sounds odd? it is odd we think the same, but i showed him too meny times, he cant be faster then me xD Pehom x4 is cheap, but not as fast.
my Athlon X2 5000+ OC'ed to 3.2GHz on stock Cooling in an Inspiron 531 (small case, only 1 fan) tops out at 43 C. The hottest thing in my case is my GTX 260 at 65C)
Wrong Intel "Pulled Ahead" after 2002 never forget P 4 is stilll most sucessful and processor and then dual core and core 2 and so on AMD processors had no match for P4.
I hope you know the P4 was the reason they fell behind. It had the most inefficient architecture of its time, and people were shocked at how much faster the AMD CPUs were.
Yes AMD Athlon was cheap and better performer than P4 but P4 outnumbered AMD ,5 years ago me and my friend purchased our first computer i got 2.8 ghz P4 and he got same AMD (or maybe better confugration cause our price was same). his AMD machines CPU got fried in 2 years mine still works all intel CPU is better in terms of reliability and durability AMD make less durable machines which perform good for few months but they fail in long run and its a fact and its their USP aswell.
AP Nelson Mandela, the South African peace activist who spent 26 years in prison at the hands of the apartheid government, has picked his side in the Microprocessor debate. Announcing via South African national television yesterday, Mandela stated that AMD is the brand of freedom. He reiterated earlier remarks that AMD chips cost less then their Intel competitors but provide superior performance. AMD is awesome, Mandela said.
Dude, wtf are you talking about? The old Athlons like in this ad, or the AMD's modern procs? AMD's 45nm's are just as or more power-efficient than Intel's.
wow a couple of extra hundred watts? wow that is like gonna cost me like and extra 10p a week in electricity! woooooo!!! i'll add that onto my 190 quid a week electric bill shall i?

Example.. compare the celeron and sempron atleast.

@orkie55 I think the 1100t isn't much slower than the 980x

@AMDsupreme Are you fucking high?
orkie55 1 year ago
@orkie55 No, but I do know that AMD's 6-core is only $250 and Intels is $1000. And the profromance is not 1/5 of Intels like the price suggests. its more like Intel is 25% better but the price is 500% more
AMDsupreme 1 year ago 10
@AMDsupreme Your right, but intels 4cores are faster then the AMD's 6cores, for the same price.

@orkie55 a friend of mine has a quad i5(3xx euros) and I have a athlon ll x3 445 and I unlocked it and I have a phenom ll quad x4 and in windows 7 rating my friend has 7,2 and I have 7,3. (I have 2mb lvl 2 and 6mb lvl 3)
IMPORTANT: my processor cost less than 100euros, SRRY MY BAD ENGLISH.
bromixPC 10 months ago
@orkie55 Um no I said the 6 cores of amd are almost in par with intels 6 core and its like 1/5 of the price
AMDsupreme 1 year ago
@AMDsupreme You are wrong, AMD's 6core CPU's does get beated by intels 4core cpu's. So AMD has nothing that even comes close to the intel 6core cpu's. At all. Get your facts right. Time for you to actually start doin some research if you seriously believe that AMD's 6cores are in pair with intel's 6cores.
orkie55 1 year ago

Alex148710 1 year ago
Well AMD is a little below the top intel stuff right now (i7) but for cost to performance you cant beat AMD, they are the only computers I have ever built and will build, I thought about going with the i7 but it was 1k for cpu alone then another 300 for the board. Get a full PII 965 and board for 400 and it performs the same in games. Make no mistake, if I were encoding or video rendering/editing, the i7 would be like 2 sec faster. $185 to $1000, whos the real winner?

@kevinsupra90 intel is a giant and has some of the best engineers worldwide. They DO come up with faster processors then AMD but they cost much much more. I'd rather buy an AMD which is say 15% slower but 50% cheaper than an intel processor...just saying.

Intels have bigger numbers, but their chipsets ruin actual performance.

this is bollocks.
intel i7 is overpriced
the latest AMD processors were designed to trump previous intel processors (which they did)
given the intel i# family is the newest, the next AMD processor will be aimed at trumping those
AMD might be a step bhind, but it is better value for money, better for gamers and is easier to overclock (whilst being no slouch)
the intel disciples have more money than sense and are simply using i7s simply because its the latest toy.few can actually utilise i7s power

not so much for gaming, AMD optimizes its all its cores for gaming when Intel takes this core to process this game and this core to process windows and programs and only devotes half of what its capable of to your game.

Thats an unfair add, pentium 3 is older than athlon and not in the same league - put one up against a p4 (same league) and watch the athlon get its socks blown off!
mastergx1 2 years ago
Sorry, you don't know your CPU history. The Athlon hit the market just 6 months after the P3 (with backside cache) did, and about 4 months before the P3 with onboard cache did. P4 wouldn't hit the market for another 1 and a half years.
Also, when the P4 came out in December 2000, it came out in 1.4 and 1.5 GHz speeds, and had its ass handed to it by 1.2 GHz Athlons. The only advantage was high memory bandwidth and that advantage disappeared with the release of the Athlon 64 in 2003.
silicon212 2 years ago 3
Also, P4 wasn't relevant until the release of the 845 DDR chipset with Socket 478, and a revised Northwood core, almost a year after the P4 hit the market.
The 1.8GHz P4 was routinely spanked performance wise by a 1.3GHz Athlon or a 1.4GHz Tualatin CELERON!
silicon212 2 years ago 2
intel are good however they overprice their fucking processors that only a wealthy one can buy an i7.

AMD till death!

I hope you know the P4 was the reason they fell behind. It had the most inefficient architecture of its time, and people were shocked at how much faster the AMD CPUs were.

Nelson Mandela endorses AMD over Intel
AP Nelson Mandela, the South African peace activist who spent 26 years in prison at the hands of the apartheid government, has picked his side in the Microprocessor debate. Announcing via South African national television yesterday, Mandela stated that AMD is the brand of freedom. He reiterated earlier remarks that AMD chips cost less then their Intel competitors but provide superior performance. AMD is awesome, Mandela said.
