After they rejected it, the creators went back to the drawing board and realized that they could turn the show into a kids show relatively easy. According to the article (again, can't find it so I dunno) a lot of the names were supposed to be sexual innuendos (ex: Krabs, Sandy Cheeks, Mrs.Puff)
