@donandroz... you need to take some pride in the fact that we tried to fix a problem... it may not have been in the right way but the reason america "keeps their nose IN people's business" is because the great countries of the world (not just USA) work to make the whole world unified... if that takes fighting a war to try and do so, then its tragic, but necessary. The vietnam war was an incredible tragedy, but it was not a statement for te US, it was an act of courage to fix a problem

thats why its harder for korean vets to get recognised for benefit in america
This about the time our society was "painted black". Our "leaders" created the "gulf of Tonkin"incident. (a false flag LIE that hoodwinked the country into thinking" we were "attacked") that caused the deaths of over 50 thousand Americans and 3 MILLION Vietnamese. Was this a "nightmare"? Yes, it was. A self induced one. We've been dreaming ever since then. "Thinking" we are "safe". The biggest "enemies" are the crooks that are running the government. That is the real "war" that we dare not lose.
Look at what we were bombing. Rice farmers and rice fields and huts. Sad shit. Things started to change when Walter Cronkite began questioning the war on the evening news, something a reporter just does not do.
well done. a work of art. the thing that amazes me is that at the time, this war seemed so important and now looking back it hardly seems so. vietnam is now peaceful and americans are even going there in droves to visit. all that death for what? it is a lesson for today, it seems so important what we are doing today in afganistan for instance, and yet 30 years from now it might look dumb that we wasted so much money and so many lives
America fouhgt in Vietnam because the Communist north under Ho Chi Mihn invaded the democratic south. The U.S backed the South, and fought the north to prevent the spread of communism.
@PlanetZelka If you are Vietmanese. Yes you won. The US withdrew its troops in 1973, the South Vietmanese(US allies) fought on until 1975. When the North( the communists) overran the capitol Saigon. Rambo was not involved at any stage. Sorry. If you want to make up your own version of history feel free though.

I don't know what world you're living in, but when we're shoving people on helicopters trying to evacuate Saigon while the NVA's tanks are literally at the city gates, I don't quite consider that a "win". I intend no disrespect to anyone who served, but we certainly did not win that conflict.
@MobsterZombieAttack you're quite the redneck aren't you? with all due respect for all those who served, but it was a typical lose-lose situation, no one won, but eventually it was the us getting the fuck out of there, so if you want to call someone a "winner" i'm afraid it would have to be communism
@jvome I don't see the need in branding zombie whatever a "redneck" just cause he made a stupid statement. I think most of us out in the boondocks agree that Vietnam was not a victory for the US
Well, to the victor goes the spoils. It was a good fight but those who cared the most did win. Lesson to be learned is: Nobody should try to intervene in the civil war that a nation may be having even if one of the factions requests such.
@phillyblizzard Uh... there was no civil war until we DEFINED one and PRETEXTED one. You get involved in a fight and you walk away later on, it's called LOOSING. Any other excuse is just somebody being butt hurt and denying the truth.
Let's not reinvent history brothers. You were pawns of the war machine and if you knew then what you know now, you know you would have joined the college punks in protest. You were counting the days in wet socks while they were getting that sweet young college pussy, so let's not pretend, ok?
@QuintusLiviusPriscus@QuintusLiviusPriscus And like I said if it wasn't for us inventing peacekeeping you would have been destroyed. Did you know Americans are amongst some of the dumbest people in a 1st world country? ( I say 1st world loosely) and that your obesity Tate is 50%+ and that 75%+ Americans are overweight? A country like that isn't fit to do anything
@QuintusLiviusPriscus Ahh the stupidity of Americans can be quite humerous. You actually haven't won any wars in over a century, excluding the war in the pacific in which you depots bombs to win. Canada hasn't been listening to Britain for a long time and nobody here gives a shot about the queen. We are nobody's bitches including yours. What has the USA ever made us do?
1:03 probably on of the most famous Vitenam pics IMO. cover art to Conflict: Vietnam game with Paint it Black the cover song for the opening cinematic. fkin love it!
Guys, we are here to enjoy the songs, to remind the fallen, not to arguing about rights and wrongs of the war. Just let bygone be bygone. Why the hell do we have to remind about the failure of our grandparents. Peace
@Splittripper No disrespect intended but American soldiers were not the only soldiers to die in Vietnam, Australians and New Zealanders as well.
Also i have a question: when the US soldiers got back from Vietnam did they get any 'welcome home' parade? because i know for a fact the aussies got nothing until 30 years later. (not starting a competition just curious)
@MrBunsen1 No, sadly they did not. No parades, just the angry eyes of fellow countrymen who called them everything from pigs to baby killers. Shameful and disgraceful if you ask me . . . . . it's why I go out of my way whenever I see a Vietnam Vet to thank him and say "welcome home"
WELL THE SONG IS GREAT AND LOVE THE VIDEO PLAYED IN THE BACKGROUND BUT ITS HISTORY!!!!!! NO MATTER WHO WON OR LOST WE STILL NEED TO REMEMBER THE DEAD AND THE WOUNDED AND THE VETS WHO STILL BEAR THE BERDING. THERE ARE MANY WHO STILL DREAM OF THAT WAR EVERY DAY. AND THE MEMORYS R UNBEARABLE.R.I.P. TO ALL THAT FOUGHT THAT WORTHLESS WAR.
The guys in the picture at 0.54 are Aussies attached to 1ATF (Australian Task Force) Phuoc Tuy province. They carry Belgian FN carbines instead of the US M16s and they wear boonie hats instead of helmets. Dont ever under estimate the job these guys did in Vietnam. Forget the about the rights and wrongs and the politics. Their government told them to do a job and they did what they were told. And did it very very well.
You're always going to be told that there's a big enemy that poses a big threat Because without one,you wont need THEM to protect you from it ! And you wont pay for their huge military, support their wars or tolerate loss of freedoms in the name of keeping you safe from it.That threat needs to come with examples that can be pointed to as proof the threat is real. What would the defense budget be like today without 911?CIA budget?Would you support the wars if they said they were for control Oil?
This is great, thank you so much for compiling the photos. A sad, sad waste of human kind, yet as real as the Time and Life magazines showed, awesome song, awesome.
Sorry about leaving ultra-nationalistic comments on here but it seems that everytime I watch something on here that I enjoy I have to read some ANTI AMERICAN Bullshit that comes from some Loser!
the US and NATO did not lose the vietnam war, the side we were rooting for lost but we didnt, we never intended to fight it for them (though we did end up fighting a lot) we went in to train them to fight for themelves and supply them. it was never our war we went in to make the french happy mainly and prevent the dominoe effect.
This song takes me back every time. Viet Nam won? There is a Starbucks in Hanoi and they are looking to America for support against China.
They forgive us for slaughtering 3 million of their citizens which is more than we would do. All we had to do was wait and offer to be their friend. No one had to die. Johnson died knowing he was a hated failure. With Nixon their guns and butter insanity did for the economy then, what Bush -Cheney did now. Bush will die a despised coward.
@Buckeystown Mind you that no president has ever been so successful against poverty as Johnson. His plan "The Great Society" was not loved among the citizens of the US, but was the most effective plan vs poverty the US has ever seen. I don't think he died with the thought of hated failure in mind.
And besides, Vietnam didn't win. Nobody won. The VietCONG, a nationalistic movement of South-Vietnam, helped by Ho Chi Minh, managed to outlast the US attempts to utterly destroy communism. Nobody won
@Killvion1 Viet Nam did him in. Pentagon papers proved it a failure. Civil rights laws did him with white racists regardless of the good. Kennedy got credit for his work. Tragic times
@Buckeystown I'm not saying Johnson didn't lose popularity because of the Vietnam war, neither am I trying to justify it. The reason for going to war (the Tonkin-Incident) had been made up as a way to justify going there, while in fact the only reason was trying to prevent communism from spreading.
The whole situation should have never happened. All I'm saying is that Johson was a good president for homeland matters. His policy and thoughts on foreign affairs were flawed, not the man himself.
@Killvion1 Actually, by the end of the war the VietCONG were destroyed as a fighting force and all fighting had to be done by NVA regulars. During the Tet Offensive, VC essentially played right into the hands of American defenders and were routed in almost every engagement. Take Khe Sanh- the 6,000 American defenders managed to kill half of a 20,000-strong force of VC and NVA androut the attackers, meanwhile they only lost about 850 killed and 600 or so wounded. Nobody won, but we could've.

Let's not reinvent history brothers. You were pawns of the war machine and if you knew then what you know now, you know you would have joined the college punks in protest. You were counting the days in wet socks while they were getting that sweet young college pussy, so let's not pretend, ok?

@QuintusLiviusPriscus @QuintusLiviusPriscus And like I said if it wasn't for us inventing peacekeeping you would have been destroyed. Did you know Americans are amongst some of the dumbest people in a 1st world country? ( I say 1st world loosely) and that your obesity Tate is 50%+ and that 75%+ Americans are overweight? A country like that isn't fit to do anything
acdcgnr100 5 days ago
@QuintusLiviusPriscus Ahh the stupidity of Americans can be quite humerous. You actually haven't won any wars in over a century, excluding the war in the pacific in which you depots bombs to win. Canada hasn't been listening to Britain for a long time and nobody here gives a shot about the queen. We are nobody's bitches including yours. What has the USA ever made us do?

Guys, we are here to enjoy the songs, to remind the fallen, not to arguing about rights and wrongs of the war. Just let bygone be bygone. Why the hell do we have to remind about the failure of our grandparents. Peace

shnizzlebizzle4rizzl 4 days ago
@Splittripper No disrespect intended but American soldiers were not the only soldiers to die in Vietnam, Australians and New Zealanders as well.
Also i have a question: when the US soldiers got back from Vietnam did they get any 'welcome home' parade? because i know for a fact the aussies got nothing until 30 years later. (not starting a competition just curious)
MrBunsen1 3 days ago
@MrBunsen1 No, sadly they did not. No parades, just the angry eyes of fellow countrymen who called them everything from pigs to baby killers. Shameful and disgraceful if you ask me . . . . . it's why I go out of my way whenever I see a Vietnam Vet to thank him and say "welcome home"

What would the defense budget be like today without 911?CIA budget?Would you support the wars if they said they were for control Oil?

the US and NATO did not lose the vietnam war, the side we were rooting for lost but we didnt, we never intended to fight it for them (though we did end up fighting a lot) we went in to train them to fight for themelves and supply them. it was never our war we went in to make the french happy mainly and prevent the dominoe effect.

Buckeystown 1 week ago 14
@Buckeystown Mind you that no president has ever been so successful against poverty as Johnson. His plan "The Great Society" was not loved among the citizens of the US, but was the most effective plan vs poverty the US has ever seen. I don't think he died with the thought of hated failure in mind.
And besides, Vietnam didn't win. Nobody won. The VietCONG, a nationalistic movement of South-Vietnam, helped by Ho Chi Minh, managed to outlast the US attempts to utterly destroy communism. Nobody won
Killvion1 1 week ago 9
@Killvion1 Viet Nam did him in. Pentagon papers proved it a failure. Civil rights laws did him with white racists regardless of the good. Kennedy got credit for his work. Tragic times
Buckeystown 1 week ago
@Buckeystown I'm not saying Johnson didn't lose popularity because of the Vietnam war, neither am I trying to justify it. The reason for going to war (the Tonkin-Incident) had been made up as a way to justify going there, while in fact the only reason was trying to prevent communism from spreading.
The whole situation should have never happened. All I'm saying is that Johson was a good president for homeland matters. His policy and thoughts on foreign affairs were flawed, not the man himself.
Killvion1 1 week ago
@Killvion1 Actually, by the end of the war the VietCONG were destroyed as a fighting force and all fighting had to be done by NVA regulars. During the Tet Offensive, VC essentially played right into the hands of American defenders and were routed in almost every engagement. Take Khe Sanh- the 6,000 American defenders managed to kill half of a 20,000-strong force of VC and NVA androut the attackers, meanwhile they only lost about 850 killed and 600 or so wounded. Nobody won, but we could've.
