The last 3 year's , we had a great varsity football team 3 out of the 4 we made it to state's 3 out of the 4 year's , This year , No one played with heart.. But the one's now coming up ,from JV. Have the desire to win , We play with heart ,We play every play , Like it's our last.. This year , We blew every team that beat us in past year's , them out of the water by atleast 21 points.We're not cocky about the win's either ,We just do what we need to do. We want to win , We want the carrier dome.
home playoff game in almost 18 years. We lost 34-31 but made a furious comeback after being down 28-9 with about 4 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. Those seniors changed the face of that program in just one season and have made our community and school football crazy once again. Ahh yes, i remember this speech, i was a sophmore at the time brought up to Varsity during the playoffs. We were at La Costa Canyon High School playing Fallbrook (we beat them by the way, Carlsbad was the next week and we lost to them). The reason we had to play at LCC was because earlier that week someone had gone on to our field and broken a bunch of glass on it, ruining it for the playoffs....to this day, almost 12 years later, i still get chills watching this speech

I played for TP during Burke's final season, my junior year (2007), and we lost to Poway in the second round of playoffs (our first playoff game due to a bye). The jerseys in this video were our practice jerseys; and at the time of this speech, the CIF Championship game was still played at Jack Murphy Stadium, instead of Qualcomm Stadium, where it's been played in more recent years, including several trips led by Burke.
@weman4u Okay, I wanted to correct a couple of factual errors that I made in my last post: First, Burke coached at San Dieguito from 1985 through 1989, and did not coach for anybody during 1990; second, the 2 teams he had HC'd before coming to San Diego were not in the SF Bay area, but rather in the central part of California, and it was more than 3 years that he coached at them.
@TheMrBoltz Yes, the game you were at would've been in 2005, and this here was a different playoff game vs Carlsbad in 1999: Similar to the 2005 season, TPHS in this video was coming off 2 straight years of playing in the finals, though (unlike 2005) in 1999 they had not won the title both times. In the 16 years that Burke was there at TP his second time, they had the highest winning percentage in San Diego section, in spite of always playing in the toughest leagues. No comment who won this one!
@TheMrBoltz For those who might be interested, I'll explain my last post: Ed Burke was the head coach at TPHS during 2 different periods: First from 1980 through 1984, and later from 1991 through 2006--In between those times he was the HC at San Dieguito High School (San Diego county as well) from 1985 through 1990, and before all that he had HC'd at 2 different schools in the SF Bay area for 3 years. In his 2nd term at TPHS, he posted the highest winning % in the San Diego section.

@weman4u Okay, I wanted to correct a couple of factual errors that I made in my last post: First, Burke coached at San Dieguito from 1985 through 1989, and did not coach for anybody during 1990; second, the 2 teams he had HC'd before coming to San Diego were not in the SF Bay area, but rather in the central part of California, and it was more than 3 years that he coached at them.

@TheMrBoltz Yes, the game you were at would've been in 2005, and this here was a different playoff game vs Carlsbad in 1999: Similar to the 2005 season, TPHS in this video was coming off 2 straight years of playing in the finals, though (unlike 2005) in 1999 they had not won the title both times. In the 16 years that Burke was there at TP his second time, they had the highest winning percentage in San Diego section, in spite of always playing in the toughest leagues. No comment who won this one!

@TheMrBoltz For those who might be interested, I'll explain my last post: Ed Burke was the head coach at TPHS during 2 different periods: First from 1980 through 1984, and later from 1991 through 2006--In between those times he was the HC at San Dieguito High School (San Diego county as well) from 1985 through 1990, and before all that he had HC'd at 2 different schools in the SF Bay area for 3 years. In his 2nd term at TPHS, he posted the highest winning % in the San Diego section.

man this brings tears to my eyes I loved football and didnt realize just how much until it was over my last play was on november 28 2008 third round state playoffs just won the state championship the year before and everybody said we would be nothing the next year we proved them wrong only came up one game short would have been one of the greatest moments in my life to have played in the state championship, game again but it wasnt meant to be. I am a freshman football player at trinity high school in louisville kentucky. I am at the school and practice field almost twenty four seven and was growing tired of it. This video gave so much more energy, even when i feel as if im about to fall over because of my aches pains and bruises. Football is a frwat sport

awesome! My last play in hs was a loss to Tilden Tech in State Playoffs! LAst play ever 1992 Miami Knights vs Tampa Bay Shcokers I ran a fake punt got my kidney bruised, peed blood and retired after the game. This video makes me want to play 1 more play!

You can't possibly understand what last play means until there are no more fridays, no more two a days, no fans screaming your name, and most importantly waking up saturday morning feeling like you got hit by a truck. High school sports are amazing and 10, 15, 20 years later you see a video like this and you understand what last play is. I'd give anything to be under the lights for just one last play.

I had the priveledge for playing for Coach Burke many moons ago: 79-80. I still remember every talk he gave. What a great coach, but an even greater person.
