  • Wish I had such a cousin!!

  • shes my cousin

  • Amazing

  • de sax is pure sex

  • she sang this at rewind scotland last year. brilliant!!!!!

  • wonderful song great lyrics, it is one of my favourites

  • I knew Hazel a long time ago, she is not only a great singer but a good woman ~~

  • This song is an athem for me as it was around at the same time that I was massively in love with my then flatmate - and I never got the courage together to ask if she wanted to be more than "just friends". ...and she did indeed just left polietly - d'oh!

  • I absolutely couldn't agree more! this is one of the most moving, hauntingly emotional pieces I have heard in my 53 years on this planet. Paint a target on our backs and prepare for the epiphany!

  • A beautifully crafted song, both the melody and the orchestration combine to create a piece of music that brings goosebumps to the listener.

  • 1980 saw me proudly wearing my black big-shouldered long Hazel O'Connor coat! Love Will You?

  • I like it very very like. The best sax song!

  • "Shiver makes me quiver", the sax just goes straight to your soul, a really beautiful song.

  • ooooooh, the saxo!

  • Well said my friend.

  • got to ask wendyann131, can you expand on your comment please? love music knowledge and snippets ! ta

  • @alan59able midge and hazel had a relationship late 70s early 80s and she wrote this song about it.

  • @wendyann131 thanx! never knew that, do now....all the best

  • the whole soundtrack is amazing..went to the cinema 10 times to see the movie..had such a crush on HAZEL xoxo

  • love the fact that she wrote this for midge ure.

  • @wendyann131 tell us more

  • This song made me want to learn how to play the sax. I started learning to play it at 45. I am so glad I started learning.

  • What a great song, it has a profound sound, it makes you both happy and sad at the same time.

  • memories love this song

  • what a lovely song this is. Takes my breath away even after all this years

  • breathtaking tune one of the greatest songs ever written.....its pure pure beauty.....

  • @pablo51874 Totally agree - still one of my personal top ten after all these years. That sax solo is just brilliant. I had the pleasure of seeing Hazel perform last year and though she's now into blues music she still has that wonderful gravelly voice.

  • used to be a favourite of an old flame... takes me back

  • My Fav Slow Song, Outstanding, Totally Out Fucking Standing..

  • shivers, nothing but shivers

  • great coventry girl

  • maybe the herbie flowers bit on walk on the wild side matches this -----but only just

  • I am nearly 60 and need no convincing--Hazel and Debbie Harry will never be bettered

  • Classic Sax - love it!

  • sax player wa actually Wesley Magoogan, who unfortunately had a major accident, losing his fingers . haunting sax solo

  • @bigdavymac

One of the greatest sax solos in modern popular music (for me 'the' greatest). I read that Wesley is still in the music business; on the record production side with his son.

  • she was the forerunner of the eurthymics, funny how some of their stuff sounds similar, great song thanks for postin

  • just fantastic has always been 1 of my fav tracks sax solo just the best

  • Ah man. Great bit of saxophone. Bob Holnes's finest moment. R.I.P Bob <3

  • @HughieDixon Bob Holness didn't play the Saxophone. Not on this track, not on Baker Street, and not on any recording. Probably never in his life. It was a rumour started by Stuart Maconie for a laugh.

  • @Vikingraider10 You mean for the same reason I made that comment?

  • 13 people prefer horlicks to drinking coffee or sipping tea.

  • oh that sax solo

  • Nice song

  • LOve this WOW forgot all about ehr till other day! N covering this:) BTW,... I think gaga ia also a modern day gr8.. apaert from her meat dress! lol thanks sandy:)

  • Called this up and all the other songs in your playlist came up along the bottom of my screen. We have such similar tastes! I actually thought it was one of my playlists, lol

  • @gibblefloop brings me back to the Grove in Dublin

  • @peelan2k8 Wow - just looked the Grove up on Wiki' - looks like I really missed out when visiting relatives in Raheny & Finglas!

  • Bucking Frilliant

  • 1980 akkor voltam katona(Magyaroszág)csak a kantinból szólt a zene....

hát mit mondjak...akkor is és most is egy élmény hallani köszönöm!

  • OMG!!!!! ive just been transported back to my youth!!! Still know all thewords.....buzzin x

  • This really is a brilliant song, and well played too-brings back many memories of 1981, when it was in the charts.

Thank you for the posting-well done!

  • briliant lyrics, love the song one of my favs

  • Scares me to think that I saw The Breaking Glass film when it first came out. I must have been 14 or 15. Haven't seen the film for about 25 years or more. Don't even know if you can get it on DVD. Does anyone know if Hazel is still making a living out of music? Hope she's doing ok.

  • awsome

  • God i love this song after thirty years

  • fan tan

  • This is simply my favourite song of all time.

  • Wesley McGoogan--Cream on the cake!

  • great song from a film which was very good i thought.

  • I will open myself to critisism here!!!! however I would say this is the most moving pop song ever made! In terms of production,it is simple, a voice and a saxaphone.......But when combined to this magnitude is there any need to complicate things?

  • @nighterjay Just listened to the track maybe 8 or 9 times in a row. It is so good it how come she wasn't a bigger star?

  • @pattifelz Great artists and great songs don't allways get the recognition they deserve. Vienna By ULTRAVOX was kept of number one in Britain, By a useless piece of noevelty shit called SHADUP A YA FACE by an equally useless non discript Americano-italiano toss pot called JOE DOLCE ........in 1981

  • @nighterjay Hey nighterjay; 'what the matter you, gotta no respect, why you looker so sad, itsa not so bad, itsa nicer place, oh.. .. the rest you know by now! But hey, it could be worse! I could quote you 'The Birdie Song' (difficult I know!!!!) Love & Peace. X

  • second to the sax solo in baker street

  • This is the fist time I have heard this track, and just as she sang, "You drink your coffee..." I took a sip from my coffee. It's a sign!

  • I am getting goosebumps listening to this and I haven't got the best sax solo bit yet.

  • Haunting song....Fantastic...80's at it's best

  • Shes my cousin!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • The 80s will always be alive with classics like this in a decade full of classics happening every month, unlike the decades that followed that are just full of shit. Critics and others just did NOT appreciate anything at the time that mattered, it was all the overrated stuff that banged on about, when they banged on about anything at all.

  • @TheMjblades Yeah that's right! At least we have a radiostation here which plays the good songs and not those you hear everywhere else to!

  • hazel is living near a little village called greystones in co wicklow now . but then so is half the pop industry ......seen her once in my local of the beach house and the burnaby .....superb music and i always smoke after the sax

  • As brilliant now as it was then

  • Retro! Tök jó,már 1980-ban is szerettem.

  • hazels sexy voice,wow

  • HAZEL U SHUD SUE GA GA FOR PLAGUERISING UR LOOK FROM -BREAKING GLASS -IN HER VIDEO FOR MARRY THE NIGHT - WHICH IS CRAP

  • the Sachs on this is so so chilling

  • @MrBluenose57 the Sachs?.. You mean the shock absorbers? Sax!

  • @bigfyshy I think he means oliver sachs, the psychologist

  • I was fortunate enough to be working on my mates bike outside his house beside Guildford Civic Hall in the early 80's. Hazel was appearing there that night. It was a hot summers day and the fire exits were open. The sax player must have been doing some sound levels and he played a good 15 minute version of the solo from this song. It just drifted out of the hall and wafted across Guildford. It was totally brilliant!

  • Awesome song. At least in the 70's & 80's most artists had a distinctly different style and voice (just like the cars of that era) - unlike the warbling and "talking" rap music nowadays where you would be hard pushed to tell one "singer" from another!

  • she is one of the many icons of the 80's along with annie lennox,, blondie, etc., todays "musicians" are all computer-enhanced garbage.

  • I love you Hazel. From a fellow Coventry Kid

  • How on earth can someone dislike this? It's like saying you don't like breathing!

Songs like this are from a bygone era when musicians were real and it took genuine talent to write a song such as this.

Just listen to the garbage in the current charts (Lady Ga Ga, Cher Lloyd, etc) and tell me these people have more talent than Hazel O'Connor.

  • @SpikeManFortune This track is just beautiful!

  • @SpikeManFortune So with other words, everybody has to like this cause you do? Everybody has to have the same taste, just cause it is your taste? I have given this a fair chance, but i do not like it.

  • @SpikeManFortune People have limited taste because they are herd animals. They are all sheep.

That GaGa thing should be giving all her income to the likes of Hazel, Toyah, Kate Fantazi, Katie Bush and many many more. I wonder how many under 25 year olds are saying 'what, who? iz they kikkin it then innit or iz they just on the telly innit' like, No wot eye meen innit.

  • @SpikeManFortune great song you are right i can't stand the shit of today either this is a very sexy song 10/10 the passions the mobiles are great too!! check out

  • In the movie the Sax player was a junkie - is it strange I liked him more because of that?

  • if you get the chance, see her sing this live with cormac on harp. BEAUTIFUL and very hauntnig.

  • For me the Sax Solo beats Baker Street!

  • @xoio Good 'ol Bob Holness!!! :o)

  • @xoio

BREAKING GLASS A SUPERB FILM, years before its time. when will it be rereleased on dvd , anyways with BREAKING GLASS the album could stand alone without the film which is very rare achievement. saw hazel back in 1981 in the first slane castle gig. excellent lady. check out her wonderful song -RUNAWAY-class

  • This has got to be one of my Hazel classics, plus one of the best songs of that era!,

  • love this tune not the best female vocalist but hazel did nail this! sax is brilliant too

  • Forgotten great Brittish music Lyrics and singers so sad we should bring them back may be cover songs.

  • cov kid expresses the hopelessness of the time to perfection

watch the film to understand the comment & also 8th day same film

  • One of the best sax solos EVER surely?! Check out the mean sax in many Kim Wilde singles too ('House Of Salome', 'She Hasn't Got Time 4 U' etc). For the 1st part of the 80s women were equalling the men in the quality music stakes, then Madogga the trash queen came along with Stop-it Aitken & Waterbrain & paved the way for the shit we were showered with in the 90s, noughties-even to this day! Just your ears can tell you how far Hazel (for e.g.) is in talent & class terms from Madogga-to now!

  • @TheMjblades THE best solo ever! It sent chills down my spine 20 years ago and still blows my mind when I hear it!

  • Absolutely amazing song! Totally blows anything like it out of the water. Memories of being a teenager in the 1980's come back every time I hear this song

  • i bought it for the sax solo by a guy called Wesley Magoogan

  • @realsinglebloke1 , Wesley lives in Hastings east Sussex, unfortunately he had a bad accident with a table saw some years ago. and can no longer play the sax. you can hear his old stuff with Billy Ocean , the Beat and of course Hazel and some others I cant remember... sorry

  • it's lovely,so is she....falling in love again !!

  • How can you dislike this song? It's an epic of the era!

  • Loved Breaking Glass, had to sneak in because it was an AA Cert, great days, cheers for post

  • this is how i feel when i get close.

  • I love this song so much,it relly takes me to a place that is deep, within my very soul..lovey hazle and what a cracker of a voic....

  • Comment removed

  • toute ma jeunesse

  • Hazell O'Conner

Pretty much the first girl iconic figurehead for the music scene in her time, apart from Annie Lennox(more mainstream) really bloody brilliant vocal control, hell of a range and personality to boot!.

    Apparently she's touring again!.

I'd love to go check her out again and relive old pleasent memories!

    gooo times, good sounds

    Madcab
