personaly, i love the album, i think its the greatest comedy album ever made!!! lyrics like "lil doggie face next to a cold hearted pussy" lmfao thats comedy gold!!! and your right, kirk hasnt been able to express his tallent since the and justice for all album, i miss his bad ass guitar solos
Sorry, by him, I mean James Hetfield. Sad but true.
Man 500 words isn't enough lol.
Anyways BlackThrashZombie, I do respect your opinion man, and with a cd like this, you have to look at the cd with a completely clean slate and take a new perspective. For man, that's very hard to do. Metal fans DO NOT like change. It's just the way we are. With that said, I can see they wanted to do something completely different, but for me, it just doesn't mesh well.
But instead, we have to listen these killer Metallica riffs being played(e.g 20 seconds into Mistress Dread) but, we don't really get to fully enjoy it because of Lue Reed and his "talk" type vocals. I definitely understand this was a collaboration, but man, if this album was on stage, the band wouldn't even need him for about 3/4 of the album because Lue Reed is up there talking away. With that said, if they released a version without Lue reed, I'd buy it.
When I listened to the album, I thought a few songs were ok. I really loved most of metallica's sounds and riffs, but I think honestly what really kills this cd for many many fans is Lou Reed. To me, he just sounds like he's straight up reading poetry and has almost no clue that there is in fact music playing in the background. He just rambles on and on, and I know that I definitely wanted to hear more Hetfield, bad lyrics, good lyrics...It doesn't really matter. We just wanted to hear his voice
the reason everyone hates it is that they were expecting a typical metallica album, and a product designed for their liking. That wasnt the intent of this album. Its a challenge, to look at music in a dfferent light. That said, there are some moments of intensity on the album that rival anything metallica has done previously.
The whole album is an abortion, just because it's different does not mean we can label it "art".
The lyrics are terrible. A cracked up 10yr old could write better. The ramblings of a past it, brain damaged Lou Reed over the top of a metal band in decline is a sure fire disaster.
The reason why there's 1000's of negative reviews is because it's crap, it's that simple. People begging us to give it a chance proves how bad it is.
I'm a musician and from a musician perspective it's also terrible.
@mjmunn1903 I dont think its nessacarely the music, but how its delivered; its sending a heavy message about the regretful life of a girl named Lulu, which was a whore like this album. Most of it is one-take material also, as i understand that lou reed directed it, not Metallica who usually are Mr. Perfect on editing songs to make it fit better. (just watch the making of DM, what they did here is totally not their style of producing a record) Do you follow standards as a musician??THATS lame.
@zwareshag St Anger & Death Magnetic are poorly produced albums as well. It don't matter who directs this nonsense, Metallica put their brand on a terrible album...end of. It's typical artistic rubbish by a band in decline who think it's ok to churn out any old crap. I'm a musician and a very good one. Metallica sound awful on this and Ulrich's drumming is a shambles. The only thin lame here is Metallica thinking they can get away with selling any old rubbish to their fans.
We all have to remember this is a project not the new Metallica album. Appreciate the lyrics b/c it's pretty deep. James sounds good. It's called a warm up to their next full album. Tallica for ever!

Completely agree... It's a good song, just give it a chance and try to get into the aura of the story line.
