  • The bass trombone is attempting to play the solo that was recorded on the Quincy Jones/Sammy Nestico Orchestra record. Terrible job, but that's his "solo."

  • Not only is Bill still killing it after a musical career spanning 40 years - he's paying it forward for the next generation of jazz musicians. Maynard Ferguson and Buddy Rich are 2 other guys that did the same thing - helping the younger players get some great experience under their belts. My hat is off to the greatest jazz trombonist ever.

  • LOVE this piece. . . . its amazing to play so much fun!!

  • As a trombone player, you're playing with Bill Watrous......scary man!!! that's lke playng alongside your favorite guitar hero

  • i think it sped up near the end and they didn't have any soloists besides the lower register. However i think it was played really well!

  • Who ordered the Clams?

  • Get me some no-doze

  • I've never seen a 'bone with such a small bell as Bill. I guess it is necesary for his individual sound.

  • @schnieef yeh definatley im thinking maybe it splays out a bit further up than most other bones aswell ...

  • @schnieef All the bells on the Bach jazz horns are the same. A bach bell is a bach bell is a bach bell. That being said, the size of the bell is pretty standardized , no bigger or smaller than any other horn on the market. Maybe it just looks that way because of the angle that the video was taken at.

  • quite a BIG big band they have there.

  • Drummer was great and the contrapuntals were right on- I agree the bass trombone was shaky but overall it swung pretty good- Watrous really knew what numbers to add into the program.

  • very akward not good....(bass trombone)

  • are there 6 bone players in that section!?

  • nice job

  • Nothing like an akward bass trombone solo to get things going. Any violin solists in the house?

  • hahaha thinking the exact same thing...

  • I remember playing this tune. I remember our conductor telling us to try and make it look easy, lol it's a tuff tune

  • brilliantly played.
