Yeah... I was wondering how anyone could ever think this was Portishead... And then I came here and everyone else is wondering that too, which sortof redeems my faith in humankind a tad.
i don't understand how anyone could think this is portishead... it's a dude. it's a great song, but you'd think most people would think "WOW THAT'S A GUYS VOICE".
well this certainly doesn't sound like portishead's female lead vocalist.. but i have little difficulty thinking this could be a woman's voice.. but it could also be a man's.. it could go both ways
This song stirs the deepest notes from the instrument of the heart. When it feels as though I have hollowed into a well, and my sadness is far below, merely echoing to the surface, this music can bring its call forth with alarming power. I view emotions as essentially infantile--instincts and premonitions, impulses, ambition, soulful calls are powerful. This somehow blends the weakest of emotion with soulful strength. I can't believe its a remix. It seems perfect. Picks up where my words fail.
this is the tim simenon (of Bomb The Bass fame) remix. been in love with this song for over a decade and it just gets better and better with every listen.
This song with waay to fucking amazing. I also was a vitcim of the 'music to fuck to' on Limewire. Still, I'm really glad I doenloaded it, it's so fucking sexy and amazing. Makes me cry in a good way.
Does anyone know where I can find the official lyrics to this song? I've had the cd forever but it doesn't have any lyrics in the booklet.I've been obsessed with this song since I first heard it when I was searching for Portishead(like everyone else)and need to know what he's actually saying. I must have googled it like a million times. However I always get different lyrics from different sources and they don't make much sense. Not that the song makes much sense anyway ;)
lol, I read the first sentence, and I almost replied with (there is this thing called "google" you might have heard of it. =P but then I read the res of your thinger.
being a person that has been where this speaks of. i have to say it's accurate in its artistic expression.
when you finish it, your work, youre strong.
the people who have the most inside of themselves are the most lonely... they are the ones that are broken... truly broken inside... no one can break them truly. this sounds like what it is to become that. they, the ones that never ask for themselves anymore because they see through all the bullshit. gifted with true sight... not an easy gift.
That was beautiful. I really felt that... wow, my eyes are tearing up. It's like you pulled all of that out of my soul. It's nice to know that someone feels the same way.
Does anyone know where I can get a torrent for this album. I have one thats been taking up space for about 8 months so its dead. I'm clinging to false hope and would really like to hear the rest of this album.
if you look at lime wire its under portishead "music to fuck to" no joke i either. i've had this song for months and just yesterday found the lyrics and who rally sang it
Just a small correction: The artist is Alpha, the song is Firefly and this one is a remix made by Receiver. The original song is on the album Pepper, dunno where the remix is coming from, but I'd go so far as to say it's much better, even though the original is already an awesomely chill song.
Hehe! Just a small correction to your small correction. The artists are indeed from the group Alpha. (The singer is Martin Barnard.) The song is indeed "Firefly". But the original version is from the LP Come From Heaven. The remixed version here is from the remix EP Pepper. For me, this is the definitive version of this song. LOVE it....
That's how I found it. How did it ever get labled as such, I wonder. I heard this version first, and I gave the original a listen, but there's just no comparison. This version is IT.
hey I heard another version to this too, this is killer tho

The song is pretty good, but I really don't understand what he's trying to say. I mean, some of his sentences really don't make a whole lot of sense.
Regardless, it's a beautiful song and I listen to it most every night when I ride my bicycle home from the library...
Waxer3929 1 year ago
this is totally Alpha nothing to do with bloody portishead at all
sdingley 1 year ago
'music to fuck to' is supposedly alphas vocals but portisheads mix of the music.

I'm here from the misnamed Portishead song too. I was hoping someone could clear this up for me. It's kind of spooky now.

The artist is "Firefly".
It can be found on P2P (limewire etc.) by searching for "Portishead" and looking for the file named "music to f**k to". Albums on amazon etc.

Yes, this is correct. That's how I first heard it. I was searching for more Portishead songs hehe.
