A rare example of lightning striking twice in filmdom: producer Joe Pasternak had made Deanna Durbin a star at Universal and here he was a decade later doing the same thing with Jane Powell at MGM! He even recreated the ending from Deanna' s 1940 film "It's a Date" which had her singing thie Schubert "Ave Maria"! And one again Walter Pidgeon is playing the father.
@Avatar610 Seems like Joe Pasternak got around; in an artistic way! You've given me a destination! Will look for Deanna's clip of this same song. I remember Walter Pidgeon as the hunky pastor in "How Green Was My Valley!" He managed to slide into home with these wonderful father figures over the years. Thanks, and so glad to hear from you!
@enterprisebaby I suspect we're in complete agreement! Jane Powell was/is one of the finest contributors to this amazing era. Sadly, you're correct in that we'll never see movies like this again. I'm grateful to hear from you, and honored that you chose this clip! Thanks so much.
@varadero1839 So glad that we are in agreement! I thought it more than a coincidence that I came across this video on the feast of the Immaculate Conception. Beautiful song, beautiful video, and the incomparable beauty of Miss Powell.
best version ever ....stunning clip ......i have the movie on video . it's scratchy and crap ....but i still watch it ......as we all know ....one of the only actresses to use her own vocals ....as if miss jane powell needed a voice over . thanks for the upload
@brattino Grateful for your kind comment! Few can compare with Ms. Powell, especially at that age! What a beauty, with a matching voice! Thanks again!
Fantastic job Janie!! But then, you have had so many great hits.... I've followed your career from Portland OR, to Wilton CN. What a wonderful life you have had, and you are still going strong ... I saw you last Sept. in the Hollywood Bowl (2010)...You sounded great...Then, I saw you again earlly this year with Robert Osborne in Chicago.
@buddfbe She's a favorite of mine also; you might have guessed! She was the hostess on Turner Classic Movies last week, and looked great! She, and other guests will be hosting while Robert Osborne is out for surgery. It was wonderful to see her live! Thanks for your message.
Another truly TOP Soprano voice: for my mind, some of these movie sopranos wee better than some of the overrated opera 'Greats', such as Callas, deLos Angeles and Sutherland! Certainly, she and MacDonald, for instance, head voices that were more truly sopranoLOL.
Another of some of the most superb soprano voices ever on record - and along with the likes of Jeanette McDonald, Deanna Durbin, etc., they chiefly came from film - not from the opera stages of the world
I'm not a fan of excessive vibrato in the voice. This is one I like. I thought at first someone else was singing for her...until I checked her out. Yes, it is Jane Powell. Lovely young woman and lovely young voice.

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. Too bad they don't make movies like this anymore. Miss Powell will continue to enchant us for years to come.

One of my all-time favorites. It is from Holiday In Mexico, not Indigo, as varadero1839 also said.

Jane and the chorus look like angels in this song.

I love this version, though my heart still belongs to Kate Smiths amazing rendition. But this is still an amazingly wonderful version.
