  • So what should toyota customers do?

And what is the big problem that is going on?

  • Well, thats an answer that very few can honestly answer right now. First thing a Toyota driver should do is figure out if his/her car i s on recall. Second thing they need to do is start paying alot more attention to the response from their throttle and make sure that their car is not "sticking" as more cars surely will show up...

the problem is that throttles are sticking and the cars are accelerating without the drivers foot on the the throttle

  • While this isn't a great situation for Toyota, I expect that they'll competently resolve the problem as they've proven themselves over the years. As for customers leaving for other brands, give it the next few months and I will bet you'll see minimal success for conquest of their customers by GM, especially, or any other brands. I am 28, driving my 7th car (Volvo, Toyota, Infiniti, BMW, Mercedes (3)) and I for one would happily consider another Toyota but wouldn't be caught dead in a GM!

  • ES = Luxurious Camry, well put...LOL

Is this whole recall by toyota triggered by that accelerator problem which caused the death of a family of four?

I thought it was just an unfortunate accident and has nothing to do with toyota products or did the investigators actually confirmed that the same problem will happen in other toyota cars?

  • I really do not know if it is the cause of the death of the family, but I really hope not/ :( I did hear that they are close to 5 million recalls now.

  • If it is, Toyota will bleed tons of cash due to their design defects....I sense huge law suits coming up...

  • ya either way they are going to be in large legal issues.

  • From what I read the death of the family in the ES was suspected to be caused by the accelerator pedal getting stuck on the floor mat (first recall). Regardless of the car, if this happens the driver should put the car into neutral (modern cars will likely Not "blow" the engine...it will rev but not hurt anything). I find it frightening that drivers don't seem to know what to do in this situation, and the media doesn't seem to be educating the public.
