I am a fur trapper as well as a nuisance animal trapper. An opossum is a fur bearing animal and it was fur trapping season making it a legal catch to keep for it's fur. It was not the intended target but it was an acceptable catch. Although the fur is of very little value they sometimes must be weeded out to get to the intended target animal. I appears you know very little if anything about trapping for fur.
The target was trespassing, killing off the local squirrel and rabbit population as well as putting out mutant litters. The opossum just happened to get in the way at the wrong time of year.

Unless you KNOW what you are doing and it is legal in your area I don't recommend it. Never use anti-freeze to poison anything. There is way to many ethical ways of putting it down. Once an animal is terminated with any kind of drug or poison it ruins the meat for other animals who will ingest it if you don't dispose of it properly. Keep in mind, where you are able to fire a firearm, 'lead to the head and it's dead!'

some of these ferals can be tamed and given homes. The kittens especially, but some are just plain mean and nasty. I remember a kid in my neighborhood growing up who founda feral on his proch. While trying to pet it the cat jumped on his head scratching his face so badly, he needed 15 stitches. Not to mention they carry diseases rabies being one.

if you take the cat to a feral clinic they will fix it for free. and wow maybe take the twenty minutes's it'll take to drive to a clinic off of your time on youtube. I've been taking care of a small colony of feral cats for awhile now and been working with various other strays and small colonys since i was eight so yes i do think i know a bit more than you about ferals. Feeding the coyotes is not a good idea cause then you'll have a coyote problem.

well killing stray cats ins't the solution. its a quick fix. TNR is trap neuter release. one cat can have four litters a year. at about six kits a litter thats 24 more cats a year off of one. then those 24 have 24 each. as you can see this is a BIG problem. k so you kill one cat. two more will come and replace it. that cat you have is defending its territory against other cats. it is no longer there you'll have about five cats fighting for that piece of land. neuter that cat and you have one.
The solution is not releasing cats. The solution is removing cats. One cat removed and 5 move in? Then 5 more are removed.

The shelters are already overflowing, my dogs take care of any mice and other critters. The cat was putting out mutant offspring that rarely survived more than a few months. It was of more use to the coyotes and finally found it's way to their dinner plate. I don't mind permanently removing the non-native predators that prey on the native wildlife and returning them to the native wildlife as a free meal.
It was trapping season. It was a nuisance animal in that area. The law forbids relocation here. Although not the target animal it was acceptable to harvest it for the fur.
If we are to throw out the law let's go ahead and shoot every domesticated animal dumper as well as the feral domesticated animals they dump. In the mean time seeing as how it is against the law to sell domesticated cat fur it will be reduced down to coyote food.

The cats kill natural wild animals and spread diseases to others. In my area the diseases spread are FLeV and FIV. Both are contagious and fatal. The specific cat tried for [and missed] in this video was multiplying mutant kittens [Deaf, blind and spine problems]. The feral cats [not tame] are put down normally with a .22. They are used to feed the K9's which don't catch the diseases. If & when the K9's population explodes, as you put it, they are trapped for their fur.

Trapping for fun is also not cruel. The main goal of trapping is to cull the overpopulation of animals that the specific area can handle as well as the nuisance animals. Removing nuisance animals reduces homeowner property damage. The possum was an incidental nuisance animal caught during fur season. It was harvested to reduce property damage and help reduce possible parasite and disease spreading. It also is used for the fur which helps put gas in my truck.

some of these ferals can be tamed and given homes. The kittens especially, but some are just plain mean and nasty. I remember a kid in my neighborhood growing up who founda feral on his proch. While trying to pet it the cat jumped on his head scratching his face so badly, he needed 15 stitches. Not to mention they carry diseases rabies being one.

if you take the cat to a feral clinic they will fix it for free. and wow maybe take the twenty minutes's it'll take to drive to a clinic off of your time on youtube. I've been taking care of a small colony of feral cats for awhile now and been working with various other strays and small colonys since i was eight so yes i do think i know a bit more than you about ferals. Feeding the coyotes is not a good idea cause then you'll have a coyote problem.

well killing stray cats ins't the solution. its a quick fix. TNR is trap neuter release. one cat can have four litters a year. at about six kits a litter thats 24 more cats a year off of one. then those 24 have 24 each. as you can see this is a BIG problem. k so you kill one cat. two more will come and replace it. that cat you have is defending its territory against other cats. it is no longer there you'll have about five cats fighting for that piece of land. neuter that cat and you have one.

The shelters are already overflowing, my dogs take care of any mice and other critters. The cat was putting out mutant offspring that rarely survived more than a few months. It was of more use to the coyotes and finally found it's way to their dinner plate. I don't mind permanently removing the non-native predators that prey on the native wildlife and returning them to the native wildlife as a free meal.

The cats kill natural wild animals and spread diseases to others. In my area the diseases spread are FLeV and FIV. Both are contagious and fatal. The specific cat tried for [and missed] in this video was multiplying mutant kittens [Deaf, blind and spine problems]. The feral cats [not tame] are put down normally with a .22. They are used to feed the K9's which don't catch the diseases. If & when the K9's population explodes, as you put it, they are trapped for their fur.

Leaving the meat out for other animals to eat is not wasteful and help the other ones living to live in less stalked areas. Removing nuisance animals reduces homeowner property damage. The possum was an incidental nuisance animal caught during fur season. It was harvested to reduce property damage and help reduce possible parasite and disease spreading. It also is used for the fur which helps put gas in my truck.
