i used to box (got into fights when people found out) and i gotta say that being in similiar situations (sparring) really helps. being in that heightened mode and being able to react clearly is pretty damn crucial. faking confidence isnt gonna work. having a clear head is going to work.
confidence. fake it til you make it. experience does loads of good. oh shit that was a huge brawl but im not hurt and i shut it down. also a good work crew as backup builds confidence. so much goes i to that 1st sizing up.
the shaking help you its your bodies natural response to the extra adrenaline flooding your system. makes you stronger and faster but doesnt mean you are scared
sze big or small really dont come into it if anything speed is best im 48 still get the adrenaline rush and therefore afterwards get the shakes best form of defence wlak or run away but if thay follow then you have to stand and fight but yea controll your emotions and most inportantly dont think you are harder cos somone younger faster will aventualy come along a kick ya but and i have seen and 87 year old karate master kick the crap out of 2 20 somthing years olds and the old man hardly moved.
The human body is amazing, and fight or flight is a very real life saving phenomenon giving the the power, speed and energy (adrenaline) to fight, or run!
Its a switch that you have to have at the ready.Offensive vs. Defensive. You want to turn- on the offensive switch--- if you are about to have to fight. However, this is where alot of people mess-up.The offensive mind-set is fine , and needed. This is the superior mind-set that will give you a myriad of combat advantages.
But that alone is not enough.Target-minded , offensive thinking needs an additional dynamic. You must also be resolute to reach your targets!
How do you control yourself when your opponent is bigger and there is no running? Do you simply believe your going to win? Looking at the size of your opponent knowing he has that much of a advantage. How is believing your going to win help your body will shake regardless especially if you've never been in actual fight before. Is there even a way out or to overcome these types of situations?
@FaizeX7 I think its just a sudden change in focus. You have to exclude self negativity. I used to always get a massive drain over myself no matter who I'd be in a fight with because I believed that I couldn't defend myself even if I could. But I trained myself to just "click" to a different environment in which the person was a prop in my environment and therefore just an object. From then on I didn't care how big or small they were because I was in control.
@FaizeX7 As soon as you start sizing up your opponent you are socializing the encounter. The opponent is a threat to your safety and your job is to eliminate the threat. This does not mean you have to win the encounter, rather, you need to survive it, very different. If you come out cut and brusied but alive you have achieved your goal of removing yourself from the threat. You don't fight the guy to win, you apply your self to remove yourself to remove yourself from the situation.
@FaizeX7 The bigger they are the harder they fall, this is truth,no man is all powerful, even it may seem so,most all men are wimps by nature and unless they know how to fight,as in has been trained. Just hit the main parts, kicking in the shin=hurts like hell, hitting in the neck=cant breath, little things like this help a lot.
@FaizeX7 Just keep relaxed. Worst thing ever is getting an adrenaline dump, which will make you beyond tired and sieze up. If a guy hit you its fine your gunna hit him to. The most relaxed person is the one who will come out on top.
@Yermomismyepicride "Just krrp relaxed"??! Sure the more relaxed man will usually prevail.. But.. have you ever been in a life and death struggle? I'm tellin' you, tellin the novice to "just" relax will not work! The stress reaction once you see the knife, or a gang of thugs charge you all at once, and things start getting rowdy, your adrenaline will dump, no matter what. Seasoned fighters may be able to keep calm, cus they've been there many times before. But the novice? -Don't think soo!!!
@FaizeX7 yes, there are, learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I have been training it for 5 years, I was a breakdancing, rollerblading, english speaking in a previously communist and socialist country, and the way it helped my self-esteem and how much it gave me confidence in conflict communication with bigger people is really something that everyone should posses to be able to step firmly into any situation. I hope my english wasn't too bad, and that I got the contexts right : )
@FaizeX7 Your body shakes when scared because fear is one part of the fight or flight reflex that causes the body to start pumping adrenaline. How much bigger are you talking? I'm 6'1 155, so I'm not "big". I've faced down people 2-3 inches and 90-100 lbs bigger. When you don't have the option to do anything BUT fight, it isn't necessarily about NOT being scaredI it's about channeling that positively, rather than letting it affect you negatively. USE that adrenaline rush, hit like a truck, win.
I've always seen it as, you think about how bad your going to beat the crap out of them, in your head before you even jump in the fight. It's a mental plus physical stage you must overcome .
everyone gets the shakes(butterflies) before they fight, thats your fight or flight instinct kicking in, makes your adrenaline pump faster, if you dont get that feeling, chances are you are going to get your ass beat, because you are under estimating the other person
I was also a security guard in and I'd say 90% is about attitude and clever talking. Most "criminals" aren't thinking strait, if you are then you have the advantage. I often would tell them, "listen, things go this way or that way and get real ugly; why don't we pick together the easy way out". Attitude wise, it's about pretending to be in control, even if you are unsure. Having said that, it is much easier when "doing a job". When trouble hits you in your real life, it's more difficult.
If I could be so bold as to summarize your video into one phrase: know yourself.
I found that I stopped shaking and going blind with anger as soon as I started playing out scenarios in my mind. Lets say 3 hooligans are heading my way at night, I try assess if I can take them on, if I should run, or if I should just act tough, etc. With confidence in yourself, if you have a few scenarios in your mind, you won't be blinded by fear or anger anymore.
carry a gun then the playing field becomes even when you are faced with multiple threats at once, just incase something happeneds.where you can't talk your way out of it. I carry a gun in my car and i hope that i never have to use it, but it's nice to know that's it's there incase i ever have to and i have no choice.
So if i go to Japan, get buff, work on a mean stare, find out where you work i can get free drinks. i'll do anything to save a buck or two :)
Really like your videos, the whole no punch and hit with an open hand is still abit wierd but then, thats just what you get from watching to many movies.
I know I'm gonna have to have a fight coming up in a few weeks and I've tried to avoid it but my girl thinks I'm not defending her honor this will be my first fight in at least 12 years how do I get confidence if I have nothing to drive it from I need some I almost got into a scrap with this guy and I shook so bad I had trouble with my movements what's my best option
hey what if you Hav to fight or they will kick your ass but you know if u beat them up your definalty gunna hav shit comin your way cus he will get people on to you
@fanzi9 Well that's unfortunately the modern world. No honor. I think that in the past people used to have more honor. 1v1 - fair fight. Nowadays if a dude gets beaten up by the other dude, he calls his friends or whatever and they go e.g. 5v1, which is totally unfair. I've experienced it myself, unfortunately.
@zurechtweiser I wouldn't. Too easy to dodge. If you first aim your attacks above the hips, the enemy will probably get used to it, and not expect a strike to the knee, so it'll be useful then. It's better to start off with hands, striking anywhere above the hips. Good weakening strikes after that are knee shots, and triple sidekicks (which is a sidekick followed by two more without putting your foot down). I like to aim at the thigh, then the stomach, and finally the head for triple side kicks.
Question: If you can't run, would it make sense to look down, maybe shake or stutter a bit to make them feel confident, and then just fucking rip their faces off if you KNEW that they weren't going to back off until they hit you?
adrenaline is like pumping nitrous oxide in your fuel tank, time to act and dont touch the brakes. The shakes is the only way to get the stuff out of the body.
@masterboyforever As it hasn't happend yet it reality it's hard to say what to do. There are billions of vaiables. If youreally think you dont have a chance RUN! If you can't run FIGHT! Make a concious decision to live & fight like a man than (get bashed and) possibly die like a coward. It is a simple decision. Kids have the ability to kill adults. It's simply intention which comes from a decision. From this day forth I will no longer cop shit, I will be a survivor! Make that decision!
WHEN YOU ARE IN A SITUATION,THE FIRST THING IS NOT TO EYE SOME DOWN THAT IS WICKED,AND IT IS NOT TO TURN YOUR BACK FROM AN ATTACK,YOU SHOULD TAKE A VERY DEEP BREATH IN AND SET IT IN THE DAN TIAN,YOUR STOMACH...MAKE SURE YOU TAKE A FULL BREATH WITH YOUR STOMACH EXERTED. THEN SLOWLY LET THE BREATH OUT..IF THERE IS AN ACTUAL FIGHT,OR EVENT THAT IS INEVITABLE IN YOUR LIFE THE BREATH IS USED THE SAME WAY THAT A SNIPER SHOOTS,TO FOCUS.IF NO FIGHT THE BREATH CAN BE USED TO FOCUS
this is cool. it also ties into a bit of what i had emailed you about...not fear during or before confrontation, but dealing with the after effects. Not many people, myself included, are adequately prepared the the shock of doing damage to another person. You can train all kinds, but I think real world experience is the only thing that will give you the necessary confidence.
1.25 - 1.53 is usually down to paranoia, stop taking steroids and this along with your anger will phase away gradually :)

i got a question though what martial art would be good for somone whos built like you and cannot run away from a fight like a security gaurd/bouncer
im 17 and find it hard to walk away from fights even when there is more of them
this has gotten my ass kicked before but idc
also i think the shakes from fights is a lack of confidence wich you can
easily get from practicing the situations in your head and in the gym
i dont mean fighting somone randomly though.
