  • @MonsterHollyRawwr ummm.... really?? Its big surr moon, and he always uses a pick unless hes tapping or slapping

  • 6 SLASH = TRASH FANS

  • this is the 1st time i saw him. i remeber screaming 4 every1 in the house 2 come see

  • OH MY GOD HOW CAN ANYBODY NOT DISLIKE THIS BUT THEN AGAIN six douchebags are entitled to their opinions. HE IS A KICKASS GUITARIST WITH A GIFT

  • The 6 people that disliked this, go jump off the highest point you can find too your death.

  • That is the most badass version of Big Sur Moon.

  • i just love buckethead cuz he is sutch a daredevil comin up on stage and plays this strange but totalt awsome song he is 1 of tyhe best out there period :)

  • It's pretty cool that he can shred on a Les Paul.

  • Big Sur Moon <3

  • LoL. Cover of Time 2

  • I have this whole concert on DVD .

Great performance by Laswell and guest .

  • this is called "big sur moon" of Colma 98

  • THATS THE BEST BIG SUR MOON I"VE EVER HEARD!

  • Ladies And Gentlemen. Mr. Buckethead.

  • And the whole BH taking tapping to another level, look up jennifer batten she was doing 8 finger tapping when BH was just brian caroll.

  • @KornSOAD I'm a guitarist too and i love BH, but Slash is the reason i started playing and he's probably inspired more people to take up guitar in the last 30 years than any other guitarist. Also hendrix, clapton, bb king, angus young can't play BH, doesn't mean they aren't gods. Peace

  • buckethead gives me goose bumps......i love going to his shows, i feel in awe to be in his prescence....he is almost unreal, i hope he continues to make music for ever!

  • Buckethead's chickens are better than todays pop culture !!!! Buckie Rules!!!!

  • i should start watching pbs

  • why the fuck you are a maniac, Buckethead, it would be great to see you in G3 with Satriani

  • @clkvlk pffffffffffffff and become pop Im sure he will say fuck it

  • Big Sur Moon. =] <3

  • crap...his delay was set a hair too fast...makes a huge difference. but gotta love the b-man. seeing him at the end of july in chicago. woohoo!

  • Buckethead has tailed beast levels of chakra. This is a known fact.

  • slash es puto y hablan solo por hablar todos sabemos quien toca mejor aqui

  • beautiful!!!!!!!!!greetings from italy

  • Buckethead you are THE BEST

  • what a boring shit. problems with tempo as well

  • @darkfredl1991 typical slash fanboy... I don't write shit like that on slash vids.

  • on an acoustic guitar is better

  • Speakin of buckethead having soul

I find his binge and grab track to be vastly superior to jordan.

to be honest I really didn't understand buckethead untill hearing binge and grab

after I discovered the binge and grab track my entire musical existance was forever altered.

when it comes to buckethead , I can smell the corps of shawn lane burning

and it smells kinda like bacon.

  • @azkeyz

good job dissing on buckethead's idol you shithead. stop making fun of how fat shawn lane was and give the guy respect where it's due. if it weren't for shawn then buckethead wouldn't have invented finger nubbing, and wouldn't have playing as weird as he does. he is probably buckethead's biggest influence and he even called shawn the greatest guitarist of all time. buckethead would feel ashamed if he saw your comment.

  • @azkeyz keeping it nice and tasteful about shawn lane. don't be a prick dude

  • @azkeyz The only things you smell burning are the strings on Shawn Lane's guitar demolishing Buckethead. Don't get me wrong, Buckethead is an amazing player, but either a.) you haven't heard Shawn enough which is understandable or b.) Buckethead has implanted a weird mind control device in your brain to constantly crave bacon.

  • @tastytasters shut up

  • @darkmatterdoesit your premise is missing for this so called "shut up"

  • @tastytasters No not really, you should just shut up/

  • @darkmatterdoesit Your authority over the internet is astounding. I guess it's the only place you get to exercise it eh. Quite, quite sad

  • @tastytasters What the hell are you talking about? I just think you should shut up. Never said anything about my authority. How about you stop putting words in my mouth.

  • @darkmatterdoesit How about you start making sense with your own words, like tossing out a "shut up" with reason? I'd stop if you implied I had insulted @azkeyz . Don't give the impression of being a tactless douche while I'm still not considering you as one. Others might not be so tolerant. p.s you just confirmed you didn't have any premise whatsoever.

  • @tastytasters Fuck this I have better things to do than argue on the internet.

  • @darkmatterdoesit yay you're making progress.

  • @azkeyz

Was that an insult to Shawn Lane or a pun on how much Shawn Lane influenced Buckethead?

  • @azkeyz That is a very epic comment indeed.

  • WE NEED AUTO-REPLAY

  • I know i can't tell buckethead what to do, but it needs more delay :)

  • @Brentypooz sounds different, and I like different .... I may as well listen to the Big Sur Moon mp3 if he went for completely the same sound.

Oh and BTW Buckethead, please do a tour in the UK :)

  • @anorwichfan Yes i hope he does! i live in UK too. oh and yeah good point :P

  • Can't beat the bucket.

  • Everyone comparing Buckethead and Slash are hilarious. Buckethead can play any kind of guitar better than slash. Blues, rock, metal classical. Slash is an above average guitarist when every person who ever picked up a guitar is considered. Buckethead and a handful of others are on a whole different level.

  • @CorganIsBeast Damn fucking straight if anything buckethead is one of the best musicans alive the amount of albums hes done CHRIST

  • @CorganIsBeast you are comparing too now. so you call yourself hilarious. Now THAT"S hilarious

  • @CorganIsBeast Slash even agrees. He said in an interview that Buckets playing is more technical than anything he could ever play.

  • @jotorc70 what interview is this? i'd love to hear/read it, can you link me it in a pm?

  • @CorganIsBeast In my opinion, Slash is just another guitarist. I don't know why anyone thinks he's some kind of God. He never really did anything new besides make using the wah pedal popular again. Buckethead has taken tapping to a new level with his and eight finger tapping shit, plus his sweep tapping. The big difference between Slash and Buckethead is, Buckethead can play a Slash solo.. Slash CANNOT play a Buckethead solo.

  • @KornSOAD Slash wrote some of the most classic songs and solos in the history of music. There's a reason why Slash is one of the most influential guitarists ever. Everyone I know has heard of Slash, even the people that don't listen to that kind of music. Can't say the same about Buckethead though.. Not everyone appreciates speed and shredding the most in guitar playing. Im a fan of Buckethead but talking shit about one of the greatest guitar players ever is just dumb.

  • @Calameth0802 I don't care what Slash wrote. I'm a guitar player and his stuff doesn't compare to Buckethead's. Plus, stating that buckethead's music is just shred is pretty ignorant. Try picking up Colma and Electric Tears and then start talking.

  • @CorganIsBeast

Buckethead is on a different level because he is very technically adept and has trained extensively to be a technical player. Slash plays totally by ear and is a natural. There is more to playing guitar than being technical. Hearing buckethead play anything blues-oriented leaves much to be desired for me - too sterile. He could never make anything sound as sweet and alive as players like Clapton, SRV, or Eric Johnson. Steve Vai would eat him alive on every level.

  • @Splentaur Finally someone with some sense making a comment. Talent isn't based just on who can play fastest. David Gilmour is a phenomenal guitarist and it's not due to being blazing fast. Many people don't realize the talent and precision it takes to play just the right notes at the right time. As a guitarist myself I spent years trying to get as fast as I could be. But now I take pleasure in playing as tastefully as I can. I would rather Slash in a band anyday!

  • You should listen to his REAL material before making assumptions like that. Listen to Earth Heals Herself by Buckethead. Nuff 'said

  • @MrGuitargod91

I have all of his music and have been listening to him for close to a decade now. I've seen him live. You have a very narrow view of what makes a guitarist great.

  • @Splentaur Buckethead has created entirely new genres though. (It seems.) Buckethead has to play by ear too, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to release like, three new albums in two months. Have you heard Cosmic Calendar?

  • @UnknownSect333 created new genres? Anyway, bucket is a great player, but there are many great players. If you want speed and precision, try Holdsworth... Raw unbridled feel and mind-blowing emotion, try SRV.... A mix of the two, Eric Johnson. Many other names could be substituted. The point is, there is no best, and buckethead hasn't done anything that has broken new ground or created new genres... Maybe if you haven't heard it yet. Anyway, Vai tops him at everything.

  • @Splentaur

    You're a funny man.

Vai wishes he was good, and I still think Buckethead is better than Johnson, just in his vast array of genres and tons of songs. That's not to say Eric Johnson isn't good, he's great, just not as great as Buckethead.

  • @PGspeed88 never heard such a bullshit :D you are either no guitar player or you`re deaf.

  • @freakguitar1

Yes, my guitar covers prove I don't play guitar. What a stupid argument. Vai really isn't that great, he hasn't really done anything to stand out musically for any reason, except to put talented people in his band.. It's quite obvious MacAlpine and Sheehan never needed him (except to provide arrogance), the whole setup is messed up.

  • @PGspeed88 LOL how can you say Vai did not do anything musically that is outstanding? watch his live DVD "live at the Astoria". AND LEARN.

and just to give you another lesson: Vai was there almost 30 years ago, back when buckethead was a kid.

and buckethead has nothing that stands out... sorry, but arguing with you about vai being "bad" and buckethead being so great is not on my level of knowledge and playing. good bye.

  • @freakguitar1

I don't have to watch it to know it's some guy playing a guitar, not doing anything special.

Buckethead has many things that stand out, just not in the mainstream sense. How many songs sound like Big Sur Moon? I can only think of one, and that's the Echo Song by Paul Gilbert, who temporarily taught BH. By saying 'good bye' I assume you won't reply, so I win by getting the last word.

    Many guitarists>Steve Vai

Not your knowledge level? Sorry for being too smart.

  • @PGspeed88 Ewan Dobson's Time 2 sounds like it, but only because both use the same kind of delay effect :)

  • @CorganIsBeast THANK YOU....

  • @CorganIsBeast you dont get famous and make money by being a good musician.

  • @CorganIsBeast Agreed, Slash has taste and is an awesome performer though, I think thats what people use as a base for comparison but its two entirely different things.

  • @CorganIsBeast Shit Randy Rhoads, Van Halen, both better then Slash, Now Buckethead on the other hand.... Sits atop of them all.

  • by definition buckethead is the greatest guitarist, there is literally nothing he cant do or play. he can play any style better than anyone, he can play extremely fast and he also can play slow emotional music.

  • this is pretty impressive live...very high level of control by him...

  • Oh yeah, Big Sur Moon <3

  • BUckethead is obviously more of a technical player, more versatile. Slash can only play blues based rock well. Slash wrote some timeless solos, Buckethead...well, I'm not sure what buckethead has done besides be a cult icon. Anyways; they're both some of the best guitarist in rock music, no way to tell who is better.

  • @IbonedDerekDsister Exactly. It's like comparing American football and soccer (aka football around the world). Both is a sport with a ball and the same goal. The game plan it completely different though. Same concept here. Can't really compare the two.

  • its not about how fast u r but making a good riff

  • Why does it look like he is doing all upstrokes?

  • @BigTymerPimp hes not, but he also has an echo on so it ssouunds like hes playing really fast, he isnt playing fast in this, hes playing emotionally

  • @Damien91192293 I'm not talking about the speed or the emotion in his playing. I know he has an echoing reverb on. I'm not sure what you're on about as far as that goes.

It just looks like he is doing all upstorkes when he picks. Like when they zoom-in on his picking hand on the video. Look at :26 - :29

  • @BigTymerPimp He is doing upstrokes. I think he just does that so that he can get it on the right timing so the delay sounds right. Or maybe he does upstrokes so he can kinda pluck the strings

  • @JoePerrys1fan

Upstrokes would give that plucking sound so it does make sense. Thanks.

  • @BigTymerPimp Because he's Buckethead.

  • Part of it sound like Paul Gilbert's Echo Song, pretty badass. =P

  • @xxKama33xx gilbert was bucketheads teacher once upon a time.

  • @peterjussi that's true, but listening to both of them now, it may seem bh is better

  • Big Sur Moon!!!

  • made me smile :)

  • Before everyone floods with comments about how stupid I am, I say this with up most respect. Did anyone notice the mistake at 0.50? Just a little encouragement to those trying to get to this level. Even the "best rock solo of all time," Van Halen's Eruption, has a mistake in the studio recording. Music isn't about perfection.

  • @nbdavis47 yeah he gives that deserving riff an extra bar :D barely noticable

  • @nbdavis47 Yeah but did you notice that he improvised to make it sound not like a mistake. Genius in our hands my friend:)

  • Anyone know why that signature Les Paul he plays is a 27" scale? Does he tune like a baritone?

  • ...who would dislike this.. ??

  • After this, my mind was put into a blender and came out a strawberry milkshake with cream.

  • Maybe we can call this lil ditty by Buckethead the Sesame Street Shuffle. :)

  • Big Sur Moon everyone...

  • wat is the song called..plss ppl

  • @etocezar

    Song name is

    Big Sur Moon

    Obviously by Buckethead....

Hope you enjoy listeninf that beautiful song :D

  • @usernameSPARTAN117 thankzzzz bro

  • I saw this after watching Sesame Street and Clifford the big red dog. My mined was turned to mush.

    lol

  • whats song is this???

  • @wolfpackleader6 Big Sur Moon, from the album "Colma"

  • "Buckethead is probably twice as good a guitar player as me and Slash combined"

    - Dave Mustaine

  • right on buckethead you rock! thanks for the upload pbs have some great music in thier archives. :)

  • fucking love the COLMA album but Big Sur Moon just proves he doesn't need any form of disortion to sound good, he just is THAT fucking good!!!

  • i finally learned the whole song!

  • I guess he decided to use faster delay and more reverb in this version... Perhaps he wanted people to hear what he was playing underneath all that thick delay?

  • most people would never realize how much an artist can do in a life time unless they ride ALL the rides at bucketheadland

  • what is the name of this song

  • @TheKrustykrabbypatty Big Sur Moon, also check out The Echo song by Paul Gilbert (Bucketheads teacher)

  • buckethead...straight just buckethead

  • So amazing if any one says they don't like it I'll cut your nuts off (Sorry just watched freaknik)

  • what is this song i heared it before

  • @Bioclay88 Big sur moon :)

  • for one night... pbs was awesome.

  • @Physalis925 damn straight man

  • did buckethead use a reverb amp also?

  • if buckethead has no sould how could he create the most badass song i ever heard....look yup LES CLAYPOOL BUCKETHEAD and click the first video...he spews soul

  • spectacular baby!! ... really I like this video,...

  • HE IS THE MOST INNOVATIVE GUITARIST IN THE WORLD

  • the people need to stop at the eyeball store when they go home cause buckethead melted their old eyes out

  • sounds like some cool ass sonic music

  • i get slash isnt the best hes just bad ass...he just has the rocker persona to him u know? hes cooler than this guy and better at riffs this guy shreds rly good though

  • @Tands1000 Hahaha, no. Buckethead is better in every way, Slash has even admitted it himself.

  • @Diffle Thank you! Buckethead must start touring again =(

  • @Diffle when, where?

  • @mikeguitar41 Yeah, Pierzasty1337 just said the quote. Sorry, it was Dave Mustaine, but he said "Buckethead is probably twice as good a guitar player as me and Slash combined."

  • @Diffle well i knew that quote.

  • @mikeguitar41 And even if Slash didn't say it himself, I'm sure he knows it. Buckethead is far more versatile than Slash will ever be, and he plays every style with incredible skill. He's the best overall guitarist in my opinion.

Sure, there's guitarists who excel over Buckethead in their own genres, such as Paul Gilbert with his metal style, Andy McKee with fingerstyle, but because the Big B plays so many styles with such skill, it makes him the best.

  • @Diffle I Agree...

  • @THEUNSPOKEN100 People don't realize true talent when they see it. Instead they go for the big names that are already established, and don't ask me how half those names were established to begin with.

  • @Diffle I agree!!

  • @Diffle where did he admit it

  • @Diffle that is completely wrong. yeah buckethead is fast and shreds and taps but he has no soul and plays like a robot. slash has tons of soul, plays with feeling, plays incredibly fast and most importantly is the superior musician. buckethead does not make good music. on the other hand, slash has written countless classic and instantly classic songs with great catchy riffs and amazing solos. he is a much more accomplished musician. AND WHERE THE HELL DO U GET OFF SAYING SLASH ADMITTED IT?!

  • Comment removed

  • @inechaime Slash was drunk all the time: is that the soul :P?

  • @inechaime Okay, what have you even listened to by buckethead? Clearly nothing.

  • @inechaime listen to the albums electric tears, or shadows between the sky, or a real diamond in the rough, and tell me those dont have any soul in them. hell, listen to the album colma and tell me that has no soul in it.

  • @inechaime Soul and feel are subjective internal concepts Nimrod. Just because your shallow taste in music prevents you from grasping the true quality of Bucket's music, doesn't mean it isn't there. Slash is a one dimensional one trick pony who's über-generic post GNR (without Izzy or Axl to leach on) career perfectly underlines that he had nothing to do with GNR's past glory. Slash is: mediocre technique, misconceptions about his actual role in GNR and generic songwriting ... hung up on image.

  • @Diffle

    Where?

  • Comment removed

  • @Diffle

that's poppycock. slash only admitted to being less technical than buckethead. i agree though, buckethead is better.

  • @Tands1000 slash's riffs arent that good hes a home tought piece of fuck guitarist

  • this guy takes guitar playing to a whole new dimension

  • slash is better more soul in his music and this guy is just wierd...

  • @Tands1000 You sir, are a complete retard. Educate yourself then return.

  • @Tands1000

I find Slash to be extremely overrated. He was cool in the 80's, but compared to many guitarists now he's among the top 50 or so, but he's not as good as people say he is. Most people who mindlessly praise Slash haven't heard of Guthrie Govan, John Petrucci, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Neil Zaza etc. Slash is good, but Buckethead is better. Maybe the really good guitarits only appeal to musicians, I don't know, but Slash isn't the best at all.

  • @Kaoskadosk Steve Vai is probably the most technical and the most vrituoso guitarrist out there today.. in a level like that contest he would eat Buckethead with chicken sauce... but what makes us like Buckethead better?.. his melodies.... is not how fast you play, is not how technical you are, there other stuff invovled... i rate Slash ahead of many because of the way he improvisionally flows through the melodies and notes.. remember, there's always going to be someone faster and more technical

  • @dario272

Well, personally I prefer Guthrie Govan, Steve Vai, Satriani and John Petrucci over Buckethead. I don't know why people have a problem with people playing fast, maybe you can't feel the emotions from it. I can and a perfectly timed fast run is the best thing ever in a solo. Also, look at classical compositions, some of those violins are just as fast as guitarits today, but people don't complain at them do they? Vivaldi would be a great example.

  • @dario272

Look up G3 - Smoke on the water, It's a live performance with Vai, Satch and Petrucci, there you'll see improvising at it's best.

  • @Kaoskadosk all great guitarrist, the only ones who bennefit from it are us.... the fans.... some guys when they first pick guitars all they want to do is play fast.. is very generic, but others, and quite honestly just a few, try to focus on other stuff, like melodies, notes ,expressing emotions.. is very weird, you can sense how Slash feels just by listening him play guitar, he built his own identity and that's something no one will ever take away from him, not even the fastest of players

  • @Kaoskadosk what i mean is, we shouldn't be boxing guitarrist into having these techniques to rate who's better... is whoever we enjoy listening the most who we should rate better, i enjoy Steve, Bucket, Van Halen.. but i also enjoy the most Slash as well as Wylde, however recgnizing that they don't have the advanced techniques Steve Vai has, nor the speed.. is interesting, but ironically the "best guitarrist" are still the ones from the 80's... well, most of them

  • @dario272

Well, all to one self really. I find Slash to be a tad onesided and boring, he doesn't appeal to me. He's cool, but I find him outdated. For me, nothing can beat Petrucci's solo in Take The Time from their Tokyo show. That and the solo in The Spirit Carries On. I don't know, maybe I need the fast licks (properly done, mind you) to really feel for it. Then again, I'm mostly into progressive metal/rock, so maybe that's one of the reasons too.

  • @dario272

Also, Petrucci for example certainly has a crapload of emotion in his solos, even though he maybe can't show it to 100% some of the time (just try to imagine the focus he needs to play some of those solos) but who cares? We're there to listen, not to watch, and if you listen you will feel what he feels. Slash is great, no doubt, a lot of emotion from that guy, but to me, to be the best you have to have the mind to think melodic while playing fast, that's what Petrucci has.

  • The power of delay... :-)

  • I wonder how it would sound if he played this on his banjo.

  • Is Buckethead using any effects in this video besides delay? It sounds like there's a little bit more going on, but maybe that's just because it's Buckethead :p

  • who is is bucket head?

  • If you ever want to be blown away, and i mean blown awaywatch Buckethead live, I caught a C2B3 show in Las Vegas and he is a true original. He has the biggest fucking hands and they cover that guitar, he's great

  • The name of the Songs is : Big sur moon

    Very Good Video ... :D !

  • I just wanted to let other buckethead fans know that PBS replays this. I've seen it replayed 3 times since it originally aired, keep an eye on PBS!

    WOOOOOOOOO BUCKETHEEEEEEAAAAAAAAD!!!!!

  • Awesome, just awesome.

  • For everyone curious, he doesn't use upstrokes for the sound. He's been quoted saying that when he first started playing guitar (and, presumably, when he first wrote this song), he thought that you were only allowed to play upstrokes.

  • @JackLeft13 That was paul giblert who said that...Wise1ugys explanation is correct.

  • This is Officialy the best thing i have ever heard in my life! Even any other fucker at guitar would say DAYUM!!

  • this is his best performance of Big Sur Moon I've seen yet
