There's a setup menu that allows you to adjust the size of this "dead zone", the square the cursor moves freely in before the view pans around. The menu isn't found within the game; it should be a separate executable file in the game folder. If you don't have it, then you may need to download the patch.

I got it on Steam because of your LP and when I play it, well to start off when I get the book it laga like hell and looks like one of those glitches like when you no-clip out of the skybox in a game. @TheSoldiersMind There's an easy fix to this one. What you need to do is go to the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\r­eal myst" folder in Explorer, then right-click the RealMYST.exe icon and choose Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab, then choose to run it in compatibility mode for "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)". Click OK, and from then on you should find that it'll run without a problem, although you unfortunately won't get the Steam overlay. Click "Yes" to the starting prompt.

There is also a "Myst Masterpiece edition" which is a remake to a degree, with a few extra features. But realMyst is the best looking and gives more movement.

There are two major problems that could happen with windows 7.First, you can't see the intro or any movie in the game (for example when you pull the switch, you don't see what happened).Second, everything is ok until the game starts, and then you see only your cursor and the whole screen is completely black.There is a solution that worked for me.First, remove any version of quicktime you have.Than install quicktime version 7.4.That is the ONLY version that worked for me.

@WildJack01 Id does work under Windows 7, even the x64 version. There is a patch on the official site. After installing the patch, make sure you set both the game exe and the setup exe to Windows 95/98 Compatibility mode (if that doesn't work, try Windows 2000). After that, run the setup.exe and choose your video card, the one without T&L. Run the setup again to make sure changes were applied. Now run the game. Should work now.

I wanna recreate MYST island in the most living and breathing detail ever done. (eventually the whole game including gameplay) in Unreal Engine 3 (one of the most powerful 3d engines available) I'm experienced using this engine for 10 years and obsessed with the myst games. I love little details and this would be my dream come true. I can't get any answer of the creators nor Cyan Legal, probably because they closed :'(

Did you ever try installing the version off of GOG?  They have a DRM-free version you can download for $5.99. Works beautifully from the start on my Vista 32 bit system besides a couple of hangups. The Stoneship age crashed as well as a certain portion of the Rime age. Indeo Codec 3.2 fixed the Rime Age. Not sure as to it affecting the Stoneship Age as I got through it w/o it crashing out of luck.

Don't install Indeo Codec 4 and 5. I didn't need them.

The little tune that plays when Cyan's logo's displayed pretty much defines my early childhood - I used to play Manhole (anyone else ever play that?) while my parents played Myst. Too bad the only version I ever got to play and beat was the abomination that is the DS port. This remake looks beautiful, though... makes me want to play again!

Hi, I can't start my game for some reason. I'm using Windows 7 and whenever I click the "realMYST Interactive 3D edition" button the screen will go black for about 2 seconds then go back to the desktop, I've tried many fixes including the patch which didn't install, and running it in Windows 2000/ME mode solved nothing, also amazing set of videos here I enjoyed watching them.

@LukeXgamer Yeah, occasionally someone will get the game to work in their version of Windows 7/Vista but most of us are out of luck. My solution was just to install XP through dual boot and run it from there.

@LukeXgamer I had the same problem. I solved it by:

1) opening the setup file on the disk under win-2000 compatibility.(disk>install>se­tup.exe)

2) installing. (full!)

3)(Don't put a crack!) update to version .1.1

4) download a crack from gameCopyWorld for version .1.1 (you can download the patch there as well) that is also "fixed vista exe"

5) replace the original EXE with the crack.

6) Set compatibility to "windows xp sp 2"

Hope it works for you!:)
