Great vid man! do you have any suggestions for a live rig I don't have the axe fx is there a pedal that can give you "shimmer" I have several delays Boss DD20, Line 6 DL4, MXR Carbon Copy, that also has modulation I also have the Boss RV5 Reverb but can't really attain shimmer from that, though it does have a modulation setting.
@FunknGrvn: Sure, just get a Line 6 Verbzilla pedal. It does a decent shimmer I'm told. But you will have to connect it in parallel to your signal path I think.
For those of us not lucky enough to have a Axe-fx, the Behringer RV600 reverb peddle does a decent job of Edge's Shimmer (so does the line 6 verbzilla i hear but not used it myself.)
I review the guitar in an earlier tutorial. It's a "frankenstrat." I built it with Custom Shop parts (neck and body). Has Hotrail pups and a Fernandez sustainer built in by a professional guitar tech.
Try one of the MIM (made in Mexico) Strats. Edge uses many guitars but the Fender Strat is a good start. A great beginner delay is the Boss DD-20. It has a good modulated delay, which is what you want for U2. Modulation is key.
like a line 6 ... where u got everything u want in 1 ... or what would you recomand ... for all those basic effects from u2 ... i've allready got a line6 mini pod ...
I forget. There should be instructions. You want normal mode, NOT harmonic mode. Harmonic mode takes it up to a higher octave. The shimmer does that later.
hehe.... g string.

@jmsantamaria:
See the other parts of the tutorial. I use the Axe-Fx multi-delay, filter and reverb for shimmer.

@iwantt0beme:
Line 6 M13 and M9 or very good all in one pedals. No all in one will give you everything you need. But it's a good start.

@iwantt0beme m9 vs m13 , 100 dollars (euro's for me ) between it ... what would you choose

Whats the name of the song at the start and end. + good tutorial :-)

@bruceconnor Arcade Fire - Wake Up. The song was played right before U2 came onstage during the Vertigo tour.

@bruceconnor: Jeff on the U2GT group knew the answer: Arcade Fire - Wake Up
Do a search on YouTube and you will find it.
