  • RETARD

  • 2:16 50, 40, 30, 20 retard! retard! retard! 5 lol

  • 100, 50, 40, 30, 20 retard, retard, retard

  • @professional3289 Old joke...

  • @juanjillocr you're old

  • Niki? Austrian? Cool Video :D

  • Comment removed

  • Retard means retardation! Which means pull the throttles back to idle!

  • retard

  • great vid, thumbs up!

  • ILS

  • Comment removed

  • MAN that's a beautiful cockpit!!!

  • Sarah Palin could never be a pilot. She'll hear the plane say Retard Retard and simply quit after that

  • retard retard retard...fine

  • @291774191 Its "Five" not fine.

  • how dare airbus call me a retard at 2:17 lol

  • WTF ?! How many Buttons ;O

  • how do they put airbus in reverse like how in a boeing 737 they have a reverse lever, in this plane do they just continue to slide the throttles back pass idle?

  • @mikalization they are the same as boeing aircraft, there are levers that are pulled up to activate reverse thrust and they are attached the the throttle google it.

  • That is a great clip!

  • The technology of airbus removes the autonomy of the pilot, necessary for emergency situations, so I Prefer to fly boing.

  • @adonaialmare its Boeing!... Boing is the sound of a Spring bouncing.. boing! boing!

  • if there wouldnt be a sidestick and those ugly callouts... airbus would be awesome

  • Retard, its like one of the things, why I wanna become a pilot!

  • Poor Lad's. So much for flying the airplane anymore. These Airbus things fly them !

  • 2:16 =)

  • ياااااااااااااااااااااااااااااااااااااااااااااارب

  • oh btw this is Zurich airport! LSZH i can tell by the runway layout

  • no Auto-Brake?

  • what does retard mean?????

  • @reedyspeedy12

It is a reminder to close the thrustlevers

  • @reedyspeedy12 All newer airbus planes do this A320 and newer Retard in french means slow down/slow or decrease so this is just the plane telling you that this is the point where you should set the throttle to idle and let the plane hit the ground.

  • does those beaps mean minimums

  • @reedyspeedy12 it means auto pilot is disengaged

  • @amazon6568 No, it is a reminder to set the throttles to the idle position.

  • Comment removed

  • @AirSimming hmm you are right, i watch video again, no one touch the disengage button, wired, i dont remember airbus planes making the sound on approach to land, maybe im just tired hehe.

  • @amazon6568. On the Airbus, there is a red button on the sidestick which allows the pilots to turn auto pilot off, as well as decide which pilot has priority flying.

  • @MrRunnerboy92 thats true....

  • No offence to anyone, but the automatic "50 40 30 20" guy reminds me of an arab with bad english accent. No offence to any arabs

  • The computer callout for "retard".Is that a call to throttle back or to flare the aircraft.Just wondering.

  • @FoulOwl It's the call for the pilot flying to retard the thrust leavers.

  • I prefer the MD-11 call-ou voice.....its a woman!!!

  • PERUVIAN AIRLINES IS THE BEST AIRLINE IN PERU

  • @Carlos000000000100

LAN is best airlines in Latin America tho. =D

  • @JetMechMA It says "five" not drive... Five feet above the runway.

  • @lxa320 I'll have to take your word for it for now, but it sure sounds like "drive". I didn't realize they had a "five" call-out. I mean...once you are that low, is a call-out of 5 feet necessary? I mean, what's the margin of error on those things anyway? I work on them every day and I know the antenna is about 6.5 feet off the ground, probably calibrated for 0 at MLG touchdown. I listened to another video and it sounded like "drive" also. I'm going to check out the aircraft tomorrow.

  • Comment removed

  • Just watched another A320 landing video and it's automated voice system doesn't say the word "drive". It just says the word "retard" three times but doesn't add "drive". That's what I thought because I am taxi qualified in the A320/319 and I've never heard it say "drive." That must only be on certain versions of the aircraft...either older or newer ones, I don't know which.

  • Does the automated voice actually say, "retard, retard....drive!" ? In other words, does it say the word "drive" to remind the pilots to grab the steering tiller after touchdown?....or to put their feet on the rudder pedals?

  • @JetMechMA It means to retard the throttles to idle.So the plane can glide to touchdown and will not cause floating on the runway and so forth

  • @DVA7498 Yes, yes...I understand that, but it sounds like the automated voice says; "retard, retard....drive." I understand why it says "rertard' but couldn't quite make out what it said as the very last word. It sounded like, "drive" ...as if it was a reminder that they were on the ground and needed to be mindful of the rudder pedals and steering tiller. Anyone?

  • @JetMechMA The word "retard" is a reminder to pilots to bring the thrust levers to idle during the landing maneuver, known as the "flare," just prior to touchdown.

  • @windbreaker14 Oh for heavens sake, if you read the other responses we already had that conversation. I'm asking about the very last word the automated system says. It sounds like it says, "retard, retard.....drive." It sounds like the last word it says is "drive". Now, lets try again....did anyone else hear the word "drive" spoken by the automated system?

  • A beautiful landing. I think it's very smooth.

    Good pilots!

  • GREAT vid! Thanx for sharing!

  • @rdrd4544 Don't worry

  • Who wants to fly an aircraft that calls you a retard? Back-side kissing, long sleeved uniform pilots who are about as interesting as a piece of cardboard, at least however they have a lovely little table in front of them on which to eat their meal. No matter how technologically advanced the airbus is, it seems to attract the dick heads of the flying industry.

  • at least boeing aircraft dont call you a retard

  • @boeingfan882

FYI, Boeing aircraft (for e.g. 747) also uses word "retard" for putting thrust to idle, only it's it's repeated twice

  • @jorgen180 no it doesnt...it goes 50,40,30,20,10 then you hear the spoiler go down............go 747

  • I dont think thats an A319 the A319 Only came out with the new 'Face Lifted Cockpit' that one only has the old CRT Displays and no data lin k support and it has the old Backup attitude indicator so thats Proberbly An A320 Dare i say an A330 Prehaps?

  • @hi1pie i think he would know what plane he's in

  • Yes you´re right. Retard is only for the safety.

The pilots get rememberd that they should pulled the trottles back! To run out of gear!

  • It sounds like it was saying retard 2:16

  • true, it shows to the pilot the best time point to reduce speed using the reverse throttle as the a/c touches down

  • If its on auto-pilot before 1:10, howcome the F/O is already holding the thrust levers?

  • i think it's just for safety reasons..in case the autospeed failed and pulled the throttles back...but not sure

  • What's the beep sound or alarm for at 1:10?

  • That's the Master Caution alarm, coupled with the flashing light to the left and right of the autopilot panel. Whatever the caution was seems to be dealt with by the computer automatically.

  • thats the alarm when the pilot turns off the autopilot

  • That's the autopilot disconnect sound.

  • As soon as you hear the "retard" call out, the pilot should pull the throttles back to idle, which he did...

  • U don't put pull the throttle to idle before touchdown, that is another reason for the bumpy landing.

  • Great video! Can anyone tell me, are all the landings a little shakey and bumpy, if you know what I mean, or can you have smooth touchdowns as well? PS - I am looking to be a pilot soon (InshAllah) and just trying to gather as much information as possible.. thanks in advance ;)

  • Those shakeings are from the runway. If you land on a smoother runway it will not be that shakey. I want to be a pilot too, but I have a medical problem with my internal ear, so this year it is not possible..:((( good luck

  • Your ear?, Shouldnot be comnpletaly impossilble, if your not totally deaf?

  • this is not a hearing problem... internal ear is a totaly different problem, i get sick when i spin on a chair. gyrochair or vestibulometry or something like this. i hear normaly, but i get a little bit sick

  • The landings can be smooth you only feel the impact that all but once you are in the ground you jump a little bit up n down

  • @evilmontezuma87 Well, the runways at Frankfurt used to be more than just a bit bumpy.^^

  • In guadalajara their not that bumpy thier pretty smooth

  • I've never landed there, so I don't know about that. But Houston's runways are pretty smooth as well.

  • Eh Ive been to San Antonio and LAX

  • @aliasgr92

smooth or bumpy it depends on the weather forecast and the pilot and the runway,if the pilot is not professional to make smooth one,or the runway it self have a problem, inshallah you achieve your dream

  • good video!

  • How do pilots stay on a straight course in the air?

  • computers

  • I think its zurich.

  • yes it is.

  • The Dreamliner couldn't be the Dreamliner without its advanced Rolls Royce engines

  • wtf he say, I ear retard, retard retard????

  • it means thrust idle in aviation terms

  • Approaching Minimums (Reaching the last 100 feet)

    50 ft

    40 ft

    30ft

    20ft

    10ft

Retard Retard (Retard the engines, put the engines in idle just before touchdown.

  • Minimums is also the point of no return as not enough space to abort landing safely, is it not??? I could be wrong, prolly am!!!

  • minimums is the minimum decision height usually at 200feet above. there is still time to abort at minimums if they cant see the runway.

  • Thanks for that!!!

  • @jonomutiny Like the other person said, "minimums" is just a reminder. If you don't have the approach stabilized and/or can't see the runway by the time you reach "minimuims" then you bug out of there and go around and try again. It is a safety reminder. They can still abort the landing at ANY time...even after they touch down...as long as they have enough runway.

  • 1:09 AUTOPILOT nice sound, Airbus the best

  • In terms of technology, i think airbus is leading the way. they are the first to apply fly by wire, FADEC, and flight safety envelope protection to an airliner. When A320 was first delivered in 1980s, it was well ahead of its time. Airbus is the future of aircraft. I love European technology..

  • The Boeing dreamliner is one of the best though. Airbus = A380. Boeing = Dreamliner.

  • yeah i agree...

but the cockpit kinda looks like airbus cockpit though.

  • Yeah

  • Boeing = 787 Dreamliner

    Airbus= New A350 Model

  • @TwentyFiveHundred concorde was the first to use fly by wire

  • @TwentyFiveHundred And don't forget, the predecessor to Airbus was the company that made Concorde! There are some similarities actually like GRN,BLU+YEL hydraulics, FBW...

  • @TwentyFiveHundred No give me boeing and i am from europe but boeing is way better.

  • @TwentyFiveHundred I agree. I also think the airbuses are a lot more pilot-friendly than Boeings, as their cockpits are very similar and very logic to the pilots. It takes for example much more effort for a 737 pilot to become a 747 pilot than it would for a A320 pilot to get become a A340 pilot.

  • @TwentyFiveHundred you are right, airbus has the best techology but when we talk about skill, boeing is what you are looking for, flying an airbus for me is like being the supervisor of a machine. Don't get me wrong, i love flying airbus but i wont change my first officer seat of the 767 i fly for anything.

  • How could you get in an cockpit as normal pessenger.... I asked stewardess .... she said its not possible due safety ....

  • WTF?!?! did they put an egg inside the GPWS mouth??? 1:58

  • No, it's just an "old" airbus, back when they used to put the real recordings.

  • 1:58

  • Comment removed

  • Haha, I would hate someone who has anger problems to fly an airbus or so.

" Retard , Retard" " WHAT THE F**** YOU SAY BOUT ME !?" Lool (:

And btw yes i do know what the 'Retard' means :)

  • LOL! when the pilot lands he goes like

ok put down the engines. then the flight computers: Retard! Retard! then pilot goes like: WTF SHUT UP IM NO RETARD!

  • pretty enoying when someone saying "retard retard" everytime u land..

  • the gpws sounds are so encouraging...lol:p

  • side stick on airbus is better than yokes on other airplanes..because arms are down and relaxed & only hands are moving..unlike in yokes you're always applying back pressure unless you use trims...

  • I totally agree..

  • i like both... i just dont get it.. everytime i try to land an A 321 everything is cool till im over the runway and the FD ( Flight Director) thrusts up as if i was gonna crash or something :S... wtf and it doesnt matter if i turn it off cause it turns on again

  • Boeing has to retire and go fishing with my grandpa', man!

    Airbus leads the way!!

  • hey dude boeing still rocks airbus booo look at their controls men its a joystick!!!!!!!! boeings controler is much more comfortable

  • boeing has the largest fleet of aircraft among the airlines, for them to retire would be like drilling a hole in hte head of aviation

  • i love boeings 737-400 but i prefere aibus, maybe because it'S european...

  • the Pentagon selected Airbus, as well :P

(look how our American friends get rabid now) ho ho ho

  • @reverent1993 i love the 737 NG ^^

  • i like boeing more then airbus

  • Me too an airbus makes life too east a boeing you have to know what you are doing to fly that

  • are you a pilot ???

  • what are you on about just because airbus has fly by wire doesnt make it any easier apart from auto trim.

  • hhahahahah if the wire is cut then your in trouble dude hhahaha

  • Hi, are you one of the pilots in this video? I will be flying on an Airbus A319 from San Jose,CA to Denver, then to Akron,OH in mid October. It will be the first time on an Airbus for me, I don't fly much. I love take off! Also, do they cut down the oxygen levels in the passenger cabin but leave the levels higher in the cockpit?? Just curious! Cool video!

  • 50 40 30 20 retard retard. retard

  • normal callout procedure for landing/flaring

  • There are more airline pilots on youtube than there are in the aviation industry!

  • I fly for Delta and fly 757-200's and the yoke I find is far better than the ones on the Airbus aircraft

  • you fly for delta but live in Australia?....hmmmm something doesn't match up...

  • That's kind of a ridiculous statement, they are not even comparable.

  • yes they are if you have to use them all day

  • So your telling me its logical to compare a side stick, fly-by-wire, auto trim A319 flight stick, to a 757 yoke without any specifications similar listed above for the 319. And there is no way in hell working for Delta you have flown both the 319 and 757

  • I have flown a Airbus A319 for United

  • How many hours do you have total?

  • Without the A319 1500hrs

  • So whats the main function of the Lateral Revision of a waypoint in the FMS. I've heard so many different things.

  • i totally agree with this guy ^^. Where were you based for each airline?

  • Los Angeles

  • where were you based for united? Don't they have a maintenance hub in Denver?

  • I was based in Los Angeles working mostly LA-Los Vegas, and yes they have a maintenance hub in Denver

  • I flew 6 year in a Md-83

and 3 years in a A319... those damn sidesticks are something else.. it makes it much mmm easiear i would say..

  • No. Just the A300 and A310.

  • Yes. All airbus' except for the A300/310 have joystick controls.

  • So the Captain and co-pilot must have "assymetric training", left joystick for captain, right for copilot.

  • it is the same with a standard yoke, we only hold the yoke with one hand.

the "inside" hand in always used for the throttle/thrust lever controls

while you get comfortable in one seat after a while, most pilots can fly just fine from either seat

  • That has to feel some what awkward if your a right-handed captain or left-handed FO... :/

  • do you know why?

  • Sorry, I don't know why.

But I have flown in a real Airbus simulator (A340) in Manchester, UK and that had a joystick: one for Pilot and Co-Pilot (left hand / right hand respectively).

I have piloted a couple of Cessna's and in my opinion, I feel like I have more control with the yoke rather than the joystick.

Think of it as driving a car with a 5-speed having one hand on steering wheel and other on shifter on a twisted road. Similar concept on the Airbus'.

  • it's called a sidestick....

  • Actually, retarding the levers from CL gate to Idle gate desengages the Auto-thrust system, i said autopilot by mistake.

  • From CL gate to Idle gate.

  • Okay I know what "retard, retard" means. But out of all seriousness, and joking put aside- why in the world did Airbus choose to make it say that?

  • what does the ''retard'' means?

  • Airbus thrust levers trvel through different gates, unlike the lever found in other aircraft. The levers are left in CL gate during climb, cruise and approach, and the computer manages the speed according to the current situation ( flaps, langing gear down or up, descent phase, approach phase, cost index selected, etc), at 20 feet above the runway thrust levers are retarded from CL gate to Idle gate, and this disengages the autopilot.

The retard call reminds the pilot to retard the levers.

  • retarding the thrust levers does not disengage the auto pilot...

The airbus has an auto-thrust system that will increase or decrease thrust automatically based on pilot or autopilot control inputs.

However, if the pilot moves the thrust levers towards idle, he limits the maximum thrust the auto-thrust can command.

Once the plane has landed, you do not want the engines to spool up again, as you are trying to slow the plane down. Retarding them to idle prevents this from happening

  • Take a closer look at my comment, i corrected myself, i said auto-pilot by mistake, retarding to IDLE disengages the Auto Thrust system, not the atopilot.

    : )

  • in the minute 1:100 the pilot teke the airbus in manual

  • Such a great view from the front. I'd love to be able to be in the cockpit so see taking off and landing in real life.

Pity it's not allowed. Sure would beat the in plane movies. Maybe they should broadcast the cabin view (cam against the front windscreen looking out) instead of the movies or as a choice of channels to watch

  • If I'm not mistaken this is Zurich, right?

  • Je pense que l'alignement a était fait automatique puis en effet les pilotes en enlevé le PA pour poursuivre en manuel , mais le debut de l'alignement a était fait automatique ...
