Does anybody remember Herman's Hermits doing a "A Hard Day's Night"-type movie? It was called "Hold On" and I'd love to see it again. Probably pure corn, but as a little kid, I was mesmerized....and seeing the band again in 2011, I realize what great musicians/entertainers they were. Peter N. still looks great to this day, while others are half-dead looking or completely dead....
I have always LOVED British Rock. (Not that there isn't plenty of good sounds on the other side of the Atlantic!) There is a simple yet polished quality to English music that makes it stay with you!
@rowtenben "Have I The Right" WAS their hit. My friends & I LOVED this song, so even if you didn't know it or care for it, a bunch of us did--that's why The Honeycombs were included!
The Honeycombes' song was recorded at producer Joe Meek's flat over a leather goods shop in Holloway Road, north London. Joe was a creative electronic sound engineer and had total control in his flat, so that is where the recording were done when he set up his own company.
When mixing after the recording, Joe did the bass drum by having a microphone in the bathroom because of the echo, and thumping a broom handle on the floor. Honey Lantree didn't drum that bit.
@strat8383 - You are talking about the wonderful, sexy, Honey Lantree, someone I admire - a groundbreaker. This song was #1 in Canada, USA and the UK. The producer was the weird, wacky (and long dead) Joe Meek (also did TelStar - using a flushing toilet played backwards to mimic outer space sounds...LOL!) Anyway, Honey was a hairdresser's assistant, but somehow found time to develop her drumming. One of a few female rock drummers (Cindy Blackman is another).
Herman Hermits sang "No Milk Today" Graham Goldman composed "No Milk Today" as well as "Bus Stop" for The Hollies and many other FAB songs of that era, do a Goggle search.

Simply marvelous--for an oxymoron. This is undiluted garage rock whose closest approximation comes in the form of some great dance music.

You can't sit down to this song! Love those guitar chords, and the stamping sound. Also, it was very rare at that time to see a woman drummer
