absolutely my favorite song on 'aerials'....it is absolutely exquisite and i sometimes have to listen to it twice i a row...it makes me feel so DAMN good!! the whole album is just so soothig and transportive.....what a great way to spend $17.00cdn!
@99Matthias99 -- Attempts to attack the person and not the argument are the first signs of weakness in your own argument, Matthias. The only truth you're describing is your own subjective reactions to this music. So, you don't appreciate what Kate did on Arial? That's fine. Lots of other people do.
@Scriabin28 I didn't attacked you personally ! I just supposed that "Aerial" can be liked by bourgeois bohemians and that you can be one of them ( it was a question ). Do you feel insulted by that ??? why ? Apparently, this is a problem for you. And i argumented my opinion. Honestly, where is the problem ?? It is a evidence that i describe a subjective opinion. Like you, like anybody else. And i have the right to say that i don't like "Aerial ". And you have the right to disagree. No ?
@99Matthias99 -- If you can't appreciate the subtle and gentle art of a piece like a "A Coral Room" or, indeed, "Sunset", perhaps people will just think your opinions are, well, a little obnoxious and silly.
@Scriabin28 Read well : i wrote that i consider " A Coral Room " as a a very good song ( beautiful song, in fact )." Bertie " is another excellent song in my opinion. But yes : the others songs of the " Aerial " album are some very weak music ( with a weak voice too ) ; it seems that the wonderful talent of Kate Bush, as composer, has disappeared ( if you compare with what she did on her 5 first wonderful albums - + " The Sensual World" on a some way - )
@99Matthias99 I think you're simply mistaking your personal likes and dislikes for the quality of the music. Which is OK, of course: that's what people do here! I think her wonderful composing talent has simply matured. There's an emotional depth and complexity to these songs that she'd never even approached before. It's a work by a mature woman and it talks to a different audience than her first 5 albums -- unless you were there for the first 5 albums, in which case you'll have matured, too.
@Scriabin28 Thinking that Kate Bush writes for a specific audience is silly. Even if we may think that she could make "Aerial " for bourgeois bohemians ( are you one of them ? ) - "new age " music influences, ecolo topics - it is totally stupid to say that. And it is not about maturity also. She was brilliant, free, imaginative, unique in her 5 first albums. Most of the "Aerial" songs are just conventional and poor melodies ( like on " The Red Shoes ) on "ambient " music.
@99Matthias99 I didn't say she wrote for a specific audience: Every piece of music has an audience, intentional or otherwise. Everything else you say is either an attempt to insult me or so completely subjective it's not worth responding to. Cheers.
@Scriabin28 An attempt to insult you ? Why ? Because i am near the thruth ?
You wrote also : "There's an emotional depth and complexity to these songs that she'd never even approached before." Is that not completely subjective ? Alright...........
I disagree totally with your opinion : the emotional depth and complexity were in the songs of the five first albums. Surely not in those of " Aerial " and " The Red shoes " albums.
@99Matthias99, that was my first impression of Aerial as well, but you miss the point if you're looking for The Dreaming Part II. Listen to it on its own merits. She experiments a lot with timing and space on Aerial - vague description, but listen to Pi and Nocturn in particular. The vocal style on Nocturn is unlike anything she's ever done before. And yes, the whole album has a lazy Sunday afternoon feel, but much of it is after all about motherhood.
@modifiedcontent Hello ! i agree : Kate has never did the same album twice. And it is a big merit for an artist. And yes, i consider " The Dreaming " and "Hounds of Love" as 2 masterpieces. Concerning "Aerial"......Well, i listened it a lot and, sorry, it is so boring with, i repeat, songs made of weak melodies on "ambient-lounge" orchestrations. I save " A coral Room " and " Bertie " from that disaster. It is my own opinion, of course.
People saying that the "Aerial" album is a masterpiece don't know the 5 first album of her or haven't doing listening nothing of her ! That makes me angry. Aerial album is very weak music: ambient lounge muzak in a better way. 2 very good songs : "Bertie" and mainly "A coral Room."( + eventually "Prologue" ).The others songs are very disapointing mainly if you compare with her wonderful previous work ( "The Red Shoes" album was also disapointing)
I am in my 30tees.. I have NEVER .. been more touched.. happy and more .. thingee than with this track .. Bless Kate Bless Dervish.. Bless Music ! Thank you!

listening to this song i was thinking of my daughter and sharing with her and she would be dancing to the spanish guitar part as well and came across your post...weird....i cant wait to share with her and now to hear that your accpetance, she prolly like too...all of kate is awesome...thx for sharing ur n ur fathers experience because music really brings all of us young and old n of differnet types n religions together...bty, me daughters bf is the bieb...
I love it so much, to let my soul into the spaces of this song of yours, Kate, and let it feel the vastness, the dynamics, the richness of experience.. different every other time! God bless you!
Just an amazingly sophisticated talent and artist. In saying this i humbly believe that the visual images just add so much and show a real love and depth of Kate's unique artistry. Ashamed to admit, but when 'Aerial' was released i found difficulty accessing her music within myself...but this montage/music combination certainly communicates to the soul. Than you for bringing Kate's music to others like me.
Kate is one magical artist. No tour, no promotion, no video yet she manages to capture the heart of so many people. There are time when I quote her and I get the usual "who is Kate Bush" response.
I'm happy I happen to belong to this exclusive club.
Anybody here think her best material might still be ahead of her?
@grinderman77 I rate Kate's latest album ,'50 Words for Snow' as one of her greatest musical achievements .It is intimate sounding and has a pleasingly full and warm quality despite the title of the album !
@TheHumbuckerboy Thanks for the pm. I will admit, I was uncertain about Kate's latest album as the critiques weren't kind at all. One reviewer went as far as mentioning "purchase Florence and the Machine's album as it's much, much better than Kate's". I should have known better than listening to that kind of idiotic comment as we all know, most of the time the reviewers know very little about good music.
@grinderman77 I too was uncertain about buying 50 Words for Snow after reading some of the critical reviews.I generally enjoy Kate's earlier albums more than her later work but I would say that 50 Words... is up there with her greatest .I have written a review of 'Lionheart' in the past(5 stars) and I intend to put on a brief review of '50 Words...' in the next couple of days.
Just to read all these other paens of praise for the total treasure that is this lady gladdens me so much. And how indeed could anyone not be moved and transported by the ageless beuty that Kate Bush creates?
@mountainenergei1 she has created such a mountain of wonderful stuff. And yeah, when that flamenco bits kicks in, it just adds to the seamless wonder of this song.
I live in Orkney, just a cosmic stone's throw across the Sea of the North. It is not as good here in the summer, so far as the solar fire goes. I dread the winter, but we get at least 6 hours grey daylight here in winter. 3 hours is bad. Bad. Oh my God. 3 hours? So bad then , I must visit Sweden in winter. Then come back in summer. And, by the way, this song could cheer up the bleakest Swedish winter. ps what do you do during the 21 hours of darkness. Cry? Drink? Watch the telly? Drink? Sleep?
This is real music, Not this Lady GaGa crap, not this Snoop Dog garbage nor this Miley Cyrus dog mess. This is REAL, HEARTFELT music; something that just DOES NOT exist today. She is a REAL woman not a slut who parades themselves for money and cannot sing like EVERY SINGLE ONE of the female singers today. She writes her own songs carefully and sings them VERY well. Kate, YOU are my idol. The world needs more like you... Wait, what am I saying?! There IS no one else like Kate... She's perfect!
@melosa2007. she dabbled with a bit of marijuana. she was never (into) drugs. yes she's a lital exentric, like most geniuses. but she sees things from a diferent point of view than most of us. i dont pretend to be an expert on her, or that i understand all her work. but my god, she make you think. she deals in material that NO one else could.
Her earlier stuff was clearly influenced by her experimentation with drugs. I don't think she's on them anymore.
She's evolved as a person as well as a musician/vocalist. Her new stuff is much more serene and it really articulates her happiness as a mother. She's content!
@silgen. agree there is no one to match her, but i dont think she has lost anything. i love her early songs too, but i think her voice is MORE harmonic now than ever. sends shivers through you. to be honest, i could listern to her singing the phone book.
@gianilira. her voice remains the same? it is totaly diferent to her early stuff. i have loved her from day 1. but kate, and her music have just got more beautiful with time. AWESOME.
@marshfish agree, her voice has noticibly deepened from soprano to mezzo-soprano and lost much of it's harmonic overtones - age and smoking are to blame. But her ability to deliver a song in a way that makes you feel it improves with age, as does her song-writing ability. There's still no one to match her.
omnivorous, i think you have a point. but it,s also about death being a part a life, and nothing to be afraid of. everything comes to an end. just look at the beauty of the world ( apart from all the crap WE create ) and all that you have.
"You know, who wrote this SONG of SUMMER",.. is so full of Love, full of Longing for HARI. At least in my Imagination, i see this Art-Peace of Kate Bush like this.
kate bush - pure perfection and a unique phenomenon, hypnotic beauty, amazing talent, simple and modest, like wine better and better with the years, god bless you kate, love from israel.
Odd-that someone you don't know, can touch emotions so profoundly and deeply placed in one's own soul. Emotions, you may not have ever even expienced in the "real world" of daily life. Oh, what it is to be such an ARTIST! This "womans work," truly a thing of rare beauty!
sooooooo cool. I'm in my 30's and I have so many women friends/ mentors that are in their 50's, especially on the early end. and these women are just beginning to live life, and be their dreams. I can only image the richness that is yet to unfold in kate which is unimaginable because she possesses so much substance, but all beauty is infinite.
When this album came out, I got through the first part, and by the time this came on on the second half, I went from like to love. So mature and filled with feeling.
the girls still got it and i want more, this album was just Kate flexing her musical muscles with 21st century production, hope it's not the final cut someone with that much skill cant help but make master works there's still more to be said.
Great use of different tempi, excellent suggestive pronunciation of the singing and good lyrics. This is a perfect example that modern (popular) western music still develops. Regards to KB
It's like she's playing with us. It's so easy for her, you know what I mean, she's so talented that it's seems effortless. The woman is a Goddess among men.
This song and the Ariel album are a masterpiece. My dream is to see KB perform live before I die...and I really don't think that will happen since she doesn't tour.
Probably her best song on Aerial. I would rate it among her best songs ever. In this bunch of favorites I include Hello Earth, Moving, Saxophone Song, Night of the Swallow and Moments of Pleasure.
Hearing this divine beauty of a song I start wondering why Kate isn't a Dame (yet?). I think her country should give her the honour she deserves. Isn't it a good idea for Gordon Brown to do, to gain more popularity in the UK? Kom op joh.
I would think the honours system is below Kate, one would hope so anyway as they're completely meaningless these days. Kate is just perfect how she is.
guys ... how much are we ???? I will ever love her .. this song is so emonial .. I cannot express how I love her .. goddess queen ... she is so great ...
thanks for bringing my attention to her aerial album. I bought it same as all her other fans as soon as it came out, and only got halfway with it, sooo disappointed. Hearing this has inspired me to give it another chance.
Does anyone know what kind of dancing is performed in this video???

I ♥ eccentric women.
THETIGBOAT 1 year ago

Melosa2007 1 year ago
@silgen. agree there is no one to match her, but i dont think she has lost anything. i love her early songs too, but i think her voice is MORE harmonic now than ever. sends shivers through you. to be honest, i could listern to her singing the phone book.
marshfish 1 year ago 6
@gianilira. her voice remains the same? it is totaly diferent to her early stuff. i have loved her from day 1. but kate, and her music have just got more beautiful with time. AWESOME.
marshfish 1 year ago 3
@marshfish agree, her voice has noticibly deepened from soprano to mezzo-soprano and lost much of it's harmonic overtones - age and smoking are to blame. But her ability to deliver a song in a way that makes you feel it improves with age, as does her song-writing ability. There's still no one to match her.

So many years have past but her voice remains the same!!!

omnivorous, i think you have a point. but it,s also about death being a part a life, and nothing to be afraid of. everything comes to an end. just look at the beauty of the world ( apart from all the crap WE create ) and all that you have.
marshfish 2 years ago
while this is on the surface a song about the sunset I always wondered whether it is a metaphor for death and if she in facts sings about dying.

A work of art, a work of love.
I watched it right through, singing to it too, and clapped to rhythm of the dancers.
You are an artist and show a real gift in this video. Thank you so much!

Aerial is one of my 2 favourite albums of all time, alongside 'Vespertine' by Bjork. The second CD is just amazing and 'Sunset' is just gorgeous.
Does anyone know who the male voice belongs to?!

Great use of different tempi, excellent suggestive pronunciation of the singing and good lyrics. This is a perfect example that modern (popular) western music still develops. Regards to KB

King of the Mountain is perhaps a more spectacular song, but I think this one would have been a better promotion single.

Auntchovi 2 years ago 12
I agree, best song on Aerial. I can listen to this song endlessly.
skypup77 2 years ago 5
Probably her best song on Aerial. I would rate it among her best songs ever. In this bunch of favorites I include Hello Earth, Moving, Saxophone Song, Night of the Swallow and Moments of Pleasure.

The evolution of an Artist.
Savant28 2 years ago 4
Exquisite. Her voice and piano, there are no words.
But please don't bring the dreaded tax slug into this. I thought it was up to queenie anyway.
btw. the bourgeois version has better sound quality, although I like the
footage on this better. Thus both are favorites.

Hearing this divine beauty of a song I start wondering why Kate isn't a Dame (yet?). I think her country should give her the honour she deserves. Isn't it a good idea for Gordon Brown to do, to gain more popularity in the UK? Kom op joh.
clognl 2 years ago 5
I cannot agree more! ...though I'm french! Anyway, she's already a Dame in my heart
kateisgod 2 years ago 2
I would think the honours system is below Kate, one would hope so anyway as they're completely meaningless these days. Kate is just perfect how she is.
booopdooop 2 years ago 3
I think the Brits have tried, but she won't accept the honor. It's not her thing. At least now.
