You know, I tried to go over 15 minutes just a little while ago, but Youtube didn't let me. My video did not upload and I got this message: " You're video was too long ".
For me the biggest annoyance in long videos (ie around 22-25 minutes or longer) is waiting for them to load. Since I watch these at work during taking calls (I work in an inbound call centre so I get a fair bit of downtime each day), waiting for each video to load is how I usually go about it. Usually, to compensate for this, I need to download them earlier which annoys me because i end up spoiling boards for myself when I pause it at the start of the video and see how many stars everyone has.
About Daisy's preformance in Camp Ukiki, I noticed that you can lose a LOT of time if you fall just once, which makes the game somewhat annoying for me.
Is it just me or does Camp Ukiki make anyone think of Camp Pikachu? Just because of the name really, not because of any similarities since there pretty much aren't any.
I lost my unlimited length ability because I got some copyright trouble with Hasbro. But that's ok, since I prefer using seperate parts since it makes it easier to find a certain section.
Even without the option to post videos longer han 10 minutes, I would still make videos within 10 minutes. I record my videos with a Flip Camcorder. With the FlipShare feature, I tried to upload a video that is a few seconds past 10 minutes somewhere in December 2010 and January 2011, and FlipShare says "10 minutes or less only."
The update earlier did nothing.
By the way, a tie doesn't mean you win, everyone loses. It's like you try to win at something but don't win but don't lose either.
I agree with you slim people can choose how long they're videos can be but the good old days was a nice classic 11 minutes why should a video take forever you can make 5 minutes a video if you want people can choose over themselves.
I agree with the 15-20 minute guideline in most cases. I'm willing to make a video longer if there isn't a good stopping point within that range or if there's an especially exciting part going on.
I say make your videos as long as you want them to be. They're your videos... So do whatever the heck you want. If people don't like it, tough. Welcome to the internet, not everything can go your way.
About the rant.... Yea, The only time A long time limit is good is when you a pretty popular on youtube.... Like this guy named xCloud8745x (he's the complete opposite of you, Swears, Yells, Smashes stuff, etc) With his minecraft videos..... But you shouldn't watch him... I don't think you would like his stuff... Although I do :D
back when the time limit was 10 mins i never thought i really got into the game enough then after 15 min i was happy but as for now i think a lets play video shouldnt be longer then 25 mins at the most but 20 mins is pretty good
I have to agree with your little 'rant' about video length, especially for LP's. I often find myself pausing videos midway as i have something else to do, or just get bored at the time.
With that said, when i find a really good lp and have a lot of time to kill i really enjoy watching 1 hour+ videos without being interupted by having to find the next part, as silly as it sounds, having the peace to not do that makes it more enjoyable and helps me get into the mood watching it.
im happy for the time limit butit is better to be watching for like an hour and having to continue clicking and clicking to the next video. at most a half hour after you upload and also if it is an hour long video put up pause timers every 20 mins that should help too.
Dude I totally agree with you on that time limit thing, I try to keep 15 minutes tops on my Let's Plays and I do admit the new time limit is a life saver because then I don't have to split the video into two parts. Anyways keep up the good work. :D
I agree with you about the time limit. I mean, there are cases which I can understand, like if a game has a long, tedious section and the person making the video wants to get it all out of the way at once, then that's fine, especially since it means fewer videos of watching it. And if a section is longer than expected, and it would be incovenient to cut out randomly. But I generally prefer smaller videos. I think 15-20 minutes is a great time. 30+ minutes is pushing it.
What!? 5:12 is a piece of poop, simply... Losing a life is stupid for a tie, especially when Luigi had won a previous try of that minigame in the exact same way that SlimKirby just tied it... o.o
Mario Party 7 is still pretty fun overall, though. :D
As for the time limit, I feel the same way. If they're too long, people feel obligated to sit through them since it's harder to leave and then pick up later. D:
I wonder what comes after this game... Doubtfully Mario Party Advance? Haha.
I could see a video being a little over 20 minutes but if your getting closer to 30 then give it a hatchet as it's better off split. Unless it's a long ending sequence, no good place to cut or like I said a game that takes like 21 or 22 minutes to play through then I could see a full play through in one video. That is my thoughts on the time limit.
Yeah, there's no need for something over 20 minutes unless it's a finale maybe. (credit talking and all that) Overall I say it depends on the game and what makes sense. Basically, now that there's unlimited time, we can end a video where it's appropriate.
I agree on the 20 minute or so mark. I watch quite a few playthroughs and while the option for time is nice, if everyone uploaded 30 minute videos I wouldn't have enough time to watch them after work.
I do agree with you upon the time limit thing to a certain degree. Personally I think it depends on what is contained on the video and where there is a good place to split the video into multiple parts. Like for example, I have a video that's like 1 hour and it's a boss battle of something, I'd split it into multiple parts depending on what phase the boss is in or something. If anything, I'd make a video no more than 25-30 minutes.
One time when I played, the computer was in the warp gate when the game ended, so I got all of the squares and it had 0 XD I do love how much they suck at the game. :P
Hey everyone, I'm a small channel of about 150 subscribers and I would love to meet more of the youtube community, I am currently doing Let's Plays of: Borderlands, Minecraft and Oblivion.
I love to make video's and entertain all those who watch me, I respond to any questions and/or comments you may have as fast as I can.
If you decide to check me out because of this, I couldn't thank you more, it means a lot to me.
I agree with you on the time frame thing I like to keep my videos about 15 min most of them go to about 17 due to things taking longer than they should and it is nice to have that removed time limit so you don't have to cut videos into two short parts. I think they should of just raised the time limit to 20 min because now tons of people will abuse it. So there are my thoughts.
Wierdest thing ever, I know it is off topic, but it IS about mario party franchise. On solo mode of MARIO PARTY 6, I am pretty sure I got like 72 or so stars from just one go at the final board of solo mode... Took like, 3 hours of playing without breaks. Kept falling down... CURSE YOU CHAIN CHOMP, CURSE YOU!!!
Honestly LP videos kinda end up having natural stopping points every 10-20 minutes, so I always just try and time mine along there. I do think at least say, 11 minutes of footage should be shown or else the LP goes too slow, but never over 20 minutes unless necessary for some reason (like a segment that long where there's no good stopping point.., like some of my Yoshi DS vids) Personally I think you time yours very well Slim, so keep doing it like you are.
@Firewizard23 maybe yoshi wanted to avenge slim after everything peach has done though that or peach did something to yoshi REALLY bad and decided to kill her
I would say for the time limit, at least for let's plays, or playthroughs, that they should definitely be over 10 minutes, however, going to about 20 minutes is still acceptable, but a whole 30 minutes in some cases is too much. Cutting up the game into parts gives people more choice as to whether they want to squeeze in another video, or just leave it at that and move on to whatever they were doing. Although having longer videos around 30 minutes long is not always a bad thing. It can work well
I personally find the Time Limit doesn't matter. I will personally watch a 10 minute video or a 25 minute video. I don't have cable television however, so Youtube is like cable and different people's channels are like television channels for me. If someone makes a 30 minute finale video and i can only watch 15 minutes of it, I can just go back to the fifteen minute mark next time i'm on the internet.
slimkirby this is kinda funny because in my langange arts class we are talking about debating and this time limit topic is a debate topic which is funny
@InuYashafanboyee If it had not been something I've experienced watching another amazing lets player by the username of NakaTeleeli, I never would have considered it myself.
(PS Usually, Youtube posts your coment the first time, even if the site occasionally neglects to tell you
I agree with the 20-minute thing. I've only started really posting stupid little LP videos of my own recently, and even with the time limit gone, I've tried to be tactful about how long my videos went on. The only exception was with Pandemic II, which went on for like 23 minutes, but only because it's a long game.
The infinite time limit is just an option. In case one of your videos goes over the time limit, then fine. but don't TRY to go over it. It's like all those extra buttons on the Xbox 360: Just because you have them, doesn't mean you have to use them.
In PlayingWithMahWii's Pokemon's SoulSilver Play through, he uploads 30 minute videos at times, which I don't mind. So anywhere around there is fine with me. I mean I can just pause the video and come back later if it's a long video.
I think the YouTube videos having unlimited time is unnecessary, but whatever you feel is best, Slim, just go for it. I mean there's people who has different sides on the matter anyway, so I think you'll get some complaints, regardless.
I think 15-20 minutes is a good time frame. It gives you ample time to make progress in the game you are playing and ensures that the video doesn't drag on for too long. Of course there are exceptions to everything, but 15-20 is usually a pretty good benchmark.
it seems like for a lot of people the nice thing about the unlimited time is just not having to worry about cutting something off. Personally, I don't care if the videos I get are longer, it can be sort of nice, and worth it for some things (NakaTeleeli's 90-minute battle at the end of Okami would have sucked broken up into more than 2 parts). I see the point of wanting to keep it shorter though
make the about 20-30 mins long just not so long i get bored and not to short where there is nothing eles to do becuase these vids are time wasters to me
My view on the time limit is that you should post videos as long as you feel like, because that's the whole point of the time being unlimited. If you only want 5 minute videos, go right ahead. If you want 50 minute videos go right ahead. The decision should be to that of who made the channel because it's well..THEIR channel. Though I will acknowledge that if your videos are too short or too long, you will lose people's interest, thus bringing in less subs.
@MrGame1414 If you are using Windows, just go to the folder or location of where your video file is and if you hover the mouse pointer over the file without clicking, it should tell you the size. For Mac, if you are at the Finder, it should tell you when you single click on the file and it brings up that information.
Another fantastic lp, especially for a game that most peope, including you, have always given a bad reputation. It might be a little more popular now.
The longer time limit will help more for RPG LPs like Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy, where one might be concerned with snipping cutscenes and turns and such due to time limits. For other, more action packed and interactive genres like platformers the new time limit really doesn't effect too much.
I agree with the time on the LP videos. Being a LP'er myself, I can say I don't like to stop halfway through and come back to it. It just doesn't make sense for people who are strapped for time.
I'd say it depends on the fluidity of the content. Granted I've seen it backfire in ways. Batman9502 had a problem with to add to the fluidity of one video, ie with the luxury of a no time limit, he let things run a little while longer, he ended up ending another one at six minutes to keep the same fluidity (granted if he ended them both at 15 minutes instead of say 22 and 8, it's the same thing but that's another rant). There are a lot of things the time limit helps, but LPs aren't really
*continued* one of them unless you want things to end at more "professional" points like with Mega ending his SPM videos at the end of each chapter rather than say going up to a certain point in one level and saying "Oh I'm out of time, I'll have to split this one level into two parts" There is the factor of the length people are willing to stay for it, but in my own anal ideals, I think the lack of a time limit is good.
with more minutes it reduces the amount of parts in an LP, which i am in favor of but, if you post too much minute wise than it might bore your audience out of watching your videos, so be careful when you decide to add more to each part
I am on your side here, Slim. I like to have the OPTION for "unlimited" lenght, but me too I feel like the videos should be ~15mins, because it is easier to watch for people. It's easier to plan into your day. I often watch the videos to pass some time while waiting, and I'd rather finish a video and then watch a 2nd part than having to pause a 30min video in the middle. Easier to portion, so I dig your attitude. =D
@tommybrett not really honestly he doesnt put enough time to each vid for the amount of subscribers that he has, look at these guys named CrissCrossMedia, They spent way more time for each vid
@HappyLolzer Time spent editing and overall professionalism are not the only parts of a good video. Sure, chuggaaconroy is really popular and his videos look very professional, but I feel that he was a better LPer when he wasn't so "professional", when he was just winging it.

I hate the multiplayer Bowser minigames. Other than those, I'd say this game has a good array of minigames.

I agree with the 20-minute thing. I've only started really posting stupid little LP videos of my own recently, and even with the time limit gone, I've tried to be tactful about how long my videos went on. The only exception was with Pandemic II, which went on for like 23 minutes, but only because it's a long game.

the time-limit thing is only needed for RPGs if you ask me
record what you need than post it why does anyone need to watch videos that long

SuperNerdtendo63 1 year ago
The infinite time limit is just an option. In case one of your videos goes over the time limit, then fine. but don't TRY to go over it. It's like all those extra buttons on the Xbox 360: Just because you have them, doesn't mean you have to use them.

I think the only acceptable reason to post more like 25 minutes or more is if it's a premiere or Finale of a project.

I like 15-20 minute videos :)
ShadowDeathLighnting 1 year ago
In PlayingWithMahWii's Pokemon's SoulSilver Play through, he uploads 30 minute videos at times, which I don't mind. So anywhere around there is fine with me. I mean I can just pause the video and come back later if it's a long video.
I think the YouTube videos having unlimited time is unnecessary, but whatever you feel is best, Slim, just go for it. I mean there's people who has different sides on the matter anyway, so I think you'll get some complaints, regardless.
BigDaddyC684 1 year ago
I think 15-20 minutes is a good time frame. It gives you ample time to make progress in the game you are playing and ensures that the video doesn't drag on for too long. Of course there are exceptions to everything, but 15-20 is usually a pretty good benchmark.
soujiseta19 1 year ago
A half hour video, for instance, is too long in my opinion. I generally like the fifteen minute mark but twenty minutes isn't that bad either.

And why am I getting German ads?
weckar 1 year ago
it seems like for a lot of people the nice thing about the unlimited time is just not having to worry about cutting something off. Personally, I don't care if the videos I get are longer, it can be sort of nice, and worth it for some things (NakaTeleeli's 90-minute battle at the end of Okami would have sucked broken up into more than 2 parts). I see the point of wanting to keep it shorter though

make the about 20-30 mins long just not so long i get bored and not to short where there is nothing eles to do becuase these vids are time wasters to me
superpaIkiagalaxy 1 year ago
My view on the time limit is that you should post videos as long as you feel like, because that's the whole point of the time being unlimited. If you only want 5 minute videos, go right ahead. If you want 50 minute videos go right ahead. The decision should be to that of who made the channel because it's well..THEIR channel. Though I will acknowledge that if your videos are too short or too long, you will lose people's interest, thus bringing in less subs.

how do i check the giga bite size on a file
MrGame1414 1 year ago
@MrGame1414 If you are using Windows, just go to the folder or location of where your video file is and if you hover the mouse pointer over the file without clicking, it should tell you the size. For Mac, if you are at the Finder, it should tell you when you single click on the file and it brings up that information.

No don't make them long. Please. I don't like watching 30 mins videos. 15-20 is long enough
knightofskylark 1 year ago
I think videos should be less than 30 minutes. More than that just isn't watchable in one sitting, and sacrifices quality.

The longer time limit will help more for RPG LPs like Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy, where one might be concerned with snipping cutscenes and turns and such due to time limits. For other, more action packed and interactive genres like platformers the new time limit really doesn't effect too much.
SephirothVsKratos 1 year ago
I agree with the time on the LP videos. Being a LP'er myself, I can say I don't like to stop halfway through and come back to it. It just doesn't make sense for people who are strapped for time.
pitmarthroy 1 year ago
15 20 minutes is the best especially when you have many subscriptions for all the things you like (I know I have 10 that post 1-10 videos a day)
PoketoMtg 1 year ago
I like your 20 minute videos! They're the perfect length. Keep up the good work!
Mother3fan101 1 year ago
I'd say it depends on the fluidity of the content. Granted I've seen it backfire in ways. Batman9502 had a problem with to add to the fluidity of one video, ie with the luxury of a no time limit, he let things run a little while longer, he ended up ending another one at six minutes to keep the same fluidity (granted if he ended them both at 15 minutes instead of say 22 and 8, it's the same thing but that's another rant). There are a lot of things the time limit helps, but LPs aren't really
PondTheGreat 1 year ago
*continued* one of them unless you want things to end at more "professional" points like with Mega ending his SPM videos at the end of each chapter rather than say going up to a certain point in one level and saying "Oh I'm out of time, I'll have to split this one level into two parts" There is the factor of the length people are willing to stay for it, but in my own anal ideals, I think the lack of a time limit is good.

awsome video but need to be more AWSOME SLIM KIRBY
deggyjnr1 1 year ago
with more minutes it reduces the amount of parts in an LP, which i am in favor of but, if you post too much minute wise than it might bore your audience out of watching your videos, so be careful when you decide to add more to each part
Mastersoniclink 1 year ago
I am on your side here, Slim. I like to have the OPTION for "unlimited" lenght, but me too I feel like the videos should be ~15mins, because it is easier to watch for people. It's easier to plan into your day. I often watch the videos to pass some time while waiting, and I'd rather finish a video and then watch a 2nd part than having to pause a 30min video in the middle. Easier to portion, so I dig your attitude. =D

HappyLolzer 1 year ago
@HappyLolzer Time spent editing and overall professionalism are not the only parts of a good video. Sure, chuggaaconroy is really popular and his videos look very professional, but I feel that he was a better LPer when he wasn't so "professional", when he was just winging it.
