I think it is very nice that Powell unline many other Republicans does not believe that an Obama presidency makes America leff safe. I believe that Obama is doing his best to do so. What has to be realized is that no matter who the president is, the risk of attacks is always there, and what's unfortunate is, if one does occur, many Republicans will say it was all America's fault for voting for him.

Colin Powell was Sec of State for Bush43. This means that he did not have any influence over Bush's war efforts.

Given that he had no power over Bush's military decisions, that his role made him a diplomatic animal, he cannot be accountable for Bush's crimes.

Neither can he be held accountable for Bush not using the diplomatic resources on hand. If your boss hears your suggestions and disregards them, it is unfair for others to condemn you when your boss is arrested for stealing from work.

Powell is a very wise and astute person, which is why it's so perplexing he supported that whole - we gotta bomb Iraq now campaign. Undoubtedly pressure from the adminstration affected his thinking.

He certainly knows about race relations and understands the importance of an Obama selection as president, from a historical context and what it can mean for the future.

In my mind, he's redeemed himself (somewhat) for fully supporting the Iraq mess.

Powell was given that information that he used in the U.N. from a so-called agent who lived in Germany. So, it is also Germany's fault. The intelligence services in Europe and America are also at fault. The Bush Administration was trying to look for excuses and Powell just went with what was given to him in terms of evidence.
