SHE SAID "TURN IT UP" TO THE SOUND ENGINEER. Rock bands do this all the time, when they cannot hear themselves through their ear piece or through the monitor speaker on the floor infront of them.

If the volume is too low, she hears mostly music... and cannot tell if she's hitting the right notes. Similar feeling to talking while holding your ears.

Besides, it's not like someone was sitting right infront of her, so that they would distract her. Replay it and see if it makes sense now.
