It's really sad that Sherwood Schwartz couldn't cast Tina Louise in the role of Ginger in the reunion movies. I think that due to being typecast was the main reason she wasn't interested in doing the "GI" movies. Judith Baldwin was just OK in the role of Ginger, nothing spectacular.
@ChihuahuaboyDH I did enjoy seeing David Ruprecht in the role of Thurston Howell IV, as David's a fine character actor, as well as a fine game show host! David, if you're out there, please come back & host "Supermarket Sweep" again! In the meantime, GSN should air reruns of "The Sweep!".
It's also sad that Jim Backus' health deteriorated over the course of filming the reunion movies. R.I.P., Jim Backus. You made both Thurston Howell III & Quincey Magoo memorable characters.
@ChihuahuaboyDH OMG, no wonder that guy who played Thurston the IV looks and sounds familar. I figure he was a game show host. But I didn't realize he hosted The Sweep. I remember that show. The question is what was the original channel Supermarket Sweep aired on?
@kgp8 "Supermarket Sweep" originally aired on Lifetime when it premiered in 1990. When revived in 2000, "The Sweep" found a new home - PAX TV (now ion). "SS" last aired in 2002, & hasn't aired nor has had a revival since then. Yes, David Ruprecht is an awesome actor & game show host!
@ChihuahuaboyDH Totally agree with ya. I wonder what she's doing after the Gilligan movie? Did she have any regrets or is she happy doing what she was doing?
@kgp8 I believe Tina Louise has since appeared in a couple of made for television movies since "Gilligan's Island" was cancelled in 1967. Tina's also appeared in TV ads since that time as well. Otherwise, she's mostly remained hidden from the public eye. As I mentioned above, the fact that the role of Ginger typecast Tina is the main reason she hasn't been able to secure any first-rate acting gigs. It's a shame too, as Tina's quite a performer! Regrets? I'm not sure.
@kgp8 Also, I misread your question. As for Judith Baldwin, I'm not sure what happened to her. She may have appeared in one or two other projects after the "reunion" movies. It's hard for me to say how Judith felt about playing the role Tina Louise made famous in the sitcom. I'm sure Judith felt she had some pretty big high-heels to fill! If the "GI" movies garnered Judith a sizeable paycheck, I suppose you could say she was happy to have accepted the role of Ginger Grant!
@ChihuahuaboyDH I didnt care for Judith Baldwin. She looks hot then as she does now. Maybe I am saying that cause I love cougars lol. From most of her shoot interviews, sounds like Tina doesn't regret being on the Gilligan movie. Too bad they don't air any Gilligan episodes here on YouTube.
Damn, all the castaways were getting killed at the same time. Should've made another movie called "Gilligan Snuff-Out." Or "Snuffy Gilligan."
