For all of yall that think you can ALWAYS tell which way a tree is going to fall...You are wrong. Several things can impact the direction of that fall. That close to the house, it shoulda been tied off and hammering wedges in the other side to push it over as you cut.
Did the guy ever think to cramp on with a tie off at the neck of the tree and take off the sections to leave himself only the trunk to work with? He's not logging.
Cut a wedge [from the video's view 180 degrees opposite the wedge he cut to get the rest to fall. I also agree with a rope on the side 180 degrees opposite his house to work it down. This isn't a hill side where you wedge cut on the slope and you have a cable pre-attached with a winch system to pull it away.
Seriously, it's not rocket science that the tree's going to all on the same fucking side where you're cutting it. You just took out a giant wedge which supports the tree on that side - where the hell do you think the tree's gonna go?
The sadder part is that the lady with the camera is watching it too and she didn't realize that either.
The tree was leaning towards the house. The idiot cut the tree on the same side as the house, that was mistake #1. He cut out a wedge shape from that side (it was already leaning that way), WTF did he think would happen?
Ropes would've been a smart idea, there was a HUGE amount of room for the tree in this video. With ropes they wouldn't even have to fight the lean, they could've atleast deterred it from falling on the house. There was just so much space lol...
@Xuvial Actually, you really need heavy chains or cables. Ropes are too springy and... well, it's too much to explin in a short comment.
It looked to me like he cut a wedge out of the correct side (away from the house) and then cut from the back of the wedge, which is good procedure. His mistake was that the wedge needs to go 3/4 of the way into the tree, and he only went about 1/4. Plus he should have used wedges to assist the fall.
@Xuvial Obviously he wasn't cutting the wedge on this video, he had the wedge cut on the other side and made a straight cut on the side which were towards the house. He was just unlucky.
what did you expect the tree was leaning that way dumb ass gravity is a very hard force to over come! Hire a pro next time this is what happens when you try to save a couple bucks and do it yourself...tree removal is a job for a professional and having a chainsaw does not make you one!
Foreign countries have the "put a ridiculous amount of people on a ferry/bus and be shocked at the resulting accident" market cornered, so the Americans have to make do.
Yeah he is just stupid, we live in the woods and have cut down lots of trees really close to the house. We can always get them to fall the way we want them too.
This is why you HIRE A PROFESSIONAL who has done hundreds of these, and who has multiple assistants, chains, and other equipment that prevents things like this from happening.
Bet that $300 you saved could come in handy about now...what's that, one-third of your deductible?
he is shouting NOOOO, as if it will stop the tree from falling to the house

Just because you live 15 minutes from the woods- It don't make you a lumber jack.

how does a wedge support a tree?
I can assume you have never done it.
It was the lean that made it go the wrong way.
the best way to fight the lean is to pull it with ropes to the other side.

It's lovely how after the tree falls you can hear the chainsaw running in the man's hand and everything else is silent.
What can I say, they needed to bring that tree down urgently. Couldn't have waited.
