  • Thank you for posting this and explaining what was happening. Hopefully, the more different peoples learn about each other, the more understanding there will be. When will we, as a species, learn to stop killing each other? My 21 year old son said to me the other day that he thinks more women need to be leaders of government, because of our caring, nurturing and compassionate natures.

  • nice vid, but @brandrider12 we are lakota dakota and nakota sioux is an insult be everyone says it because they dont learn about the origin of it and hiw it demeans us... its meaning means beneath a snake.... the word came from an enemy tribe of ours and the wasicus cut it to just sioux and yeah.... lol

  • Still brings a tear to my eye, no matter how many times I see it. Rest in peace, warrior.

  • I remember this day clearely we didnt have school for like a whole week.

  • Selfless people like this marine are why I want to fight for my people not that it matters but Full native right here!

  • I just found this service and I'm truly touched. Why can't our government show this much respect for those who have fallen. My heart, my prayers, and my respect go to this family of this fallen Marine. Your families sacrifice is not forgotten. With all the love and respect from my family to yours....Mvto and May the Great Spirit help ease your pain with knowning Brett is at peace.

  • Wow! this is the way to go. I'm 1/8th Lakota and I have served in the Marine Corps and and the Air Force in two wars. My heart swells with pride even thou I'm only a very small amount of Indian blood. My grandfather thought me as much as he could about being Indian but he was adopted threw the catholic church at age 8.

May your soul rest in peace your nation and your people honor your great sacrifice, Thank you and your family.

    Robert W. McDonald

  • Rest In Peace fallen brother, Semper FI!!

    ~ A. Zhuckkahosee (Kickapoo Nation), 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines "Triple-Deuce-Five"...

  • Native American culture is so beautiful.

My grandfather is a seneca native but I'm white but I still have a deep respect for these great and honorable people.

  • Semper Fi God bless was proud to serve with my Brothers USMC 69 73

  • SAD.... I hope the elders welcome you to the council fire. You have earned it!!! Thank you bro. Rest in peace..... Someone should make him a war bonnet and put it with his picture and flag... just my opinion.

  • One of the most beautiful tributes I have ever seen, and heard. All American should see. In their continuing grief, I pray the parents find peace in these amazing You-Tube tributes. Their son ws someone to be so very, very, very proud of.

  • fuck yeah i love this shit if im lucky maybe someday ill have this same honor dont worry about him nomore hes with his brothers honor this man

  • As a fiance of a Marine, I would like to say thank you to this incredible warrior and his family. I am not a Native American, but I can honestly say that I believe in my heart and soul that if it were not for Native Americans fighting in our armed forces, especially the Windtalkers, the enemies of the US would have devastated us much more than they have. We should no longer see ourselves as enemies. Rather, neighbors. Semper Fi and I am honored to be a sister in any way to such a hero.

  • thank you semper fi and midget

  • Journey Well as you travel to the West. You are One Of Gods Children, The Few, The Proud and make us all proud.

  • Willie Under Baggage is the author. Uncle of Brett

  • was he Lakota!

In that case i honor him and all my relations! Aho!

  • God Bless You Cpl Brett Lundstrom. The Creator needs Marines In Heaven

  • This is good. My Dad is Lakota and a Vietnam Vet, 1-9 Walking Dead Marines.

  • @ChiefBearKing Your father is a Marine Corps Hero!

The Marines of 1/9 also known as "The Walking Dead" are still spoken of with reverence and respect in the halls and barracks or the Marine Corps.

    Keep Attacking!!

    Semper Fi!!

  • @ChiefBearKing right on brother. lila washte

  • Thanks for posting and making this. I am a OEF V veteran of the Army, born and raised in Oglala Lakota Country. I didn't get to make it home for this funeral, but heard all about it. I am proud to say that our people are a honorable people. We can talk peace if you want peace, but if you were to put 100 Lakota Warriors and 100 marines in a hand to hand fight. I have no doubt in my mind the lakota would have 100 scalps in hand. Its in our blood and we fight with our spirits, not our minds.

  • @Ozephier I'd almost agree with you with one exception. of those Sue Warriors I'd bet almost all of them are former Marines or Troopers. No doubt Native Peoples have a proud tradition of service in both the Army and Corps.

    Keep Attacking!!

    Semper Fi!!

  • @TellTheMarines That's true too I'm sure since Native Americans have the highest percentage of any one race in the military. Although, these aren't our wars and I don't believe in the politics of these wars. I believe in my people. Thanks again... This made me cry tears of sadness and tears of pride.

  • @TellTheMarines I dio noit understand why any of my people defend the parasites that have suppressedf, robbed and enslaved themmmmmm..........It makes no sense to me.....Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull fought bravely to defend my ancestors from the whgite bastards...Crazy Horse scalped a motherfuckin arrogany whitr bastard named custer to save my ancestors and now you think it's cool that they jouin forces with those military assholes?????? Think again you moron.

  • @TellTheMarines By the way....dipshit....We are Lakota....not Sue...the girl's name....READ READ

  • @TellTheMarines thank you so much for spelling "Sioux" wrong... its not spelled SUE.... if youre gonna talk about one of the greatest tribes in native american history at least learn to spell it. thank you . and although i am Potowattomi, i still revere and respect the SIOUX people

  • @brandrider12 No disrespect intended.

    Keep Attacking!!

  • @brandrider12 With all due respect to you, Sioux, to some people is a derogatory name. Their traditional name is Lakota. The nation was called Oceti Sakowin (the Seven Council Fires). Sioux is thought to have come from the French pluralized version of the Ojibwe word "nadowessi"- nadowessioux; later shortened to Sioux.

  • im proud to be Lakota! and I cant wait to enlist

  • It was a sad day on the rez for all of the Lakota people. Tunkashila has taken another Lakota Akicita home. Mitakuye Oyasin. USN, AmandaS.

  • what an incredibly beautiful tribute!

  • I remember going a tear came down my eye my knee's wecking for the family but there one thing that's keep's so going and that native honor the oglala lakota nation is proud of this young man I fulley Support the troop's that's fighting to keep us free and safe my hat's off to Brett he has my respect and the family of brett have my full support

  • nah

  • Thank you for posting. I'm sure it was difficult to do but for the life of me I still don't understand why we're so willing to die for this country and a Gov. that has no honor. My Lakota boyfriend has five purple hearts but he's starting to see how he's done the white man's dirty work. What would happen if all in our military said; "enough"! "let the Govt. keep it's treaties with our people before we shed another drop of Native blood?

  • Im sorry to say but the white man will never honor our treaties unless we actually did somthing bout it

    rip Marine

Aco 27 eng bn Sapper Here God Bless U

  • Join us at Mt. Rushmore this summer Aug.29th for a huge protest rally! Look up United Native Americans!

  • Semper Fi

  • He's a warrior, it's in his blood.

  • If more people of these America's saw their warriors as such, maybe we would be a better society for it. The Natives of these Americans always had a better way of dealing with those who came back than we residents ever did. Our American way deals in health care and ownership and tributes. The way of our native peoples deal in honor and family. I like their way better. Their way way means more to to me.

  • Brett makes me proud to be an American. God Bless his family and God Bless America. Thank you Brett and may you rest in peace.

  • God bless you and your sacrafice

  • It was a very emotional and moving funeral. It was so sad, but it also made you proud. Regardless of what the rest of the country did many years ago, when the soldiers were coming home from Vietnam, Native people, and especially the Lakota/Dakota people gave their Warriors no less than this type of farewell and honoring. I know this family, and I'm proud of Brett and his sacrifice. I hope that every soldier is laid to rest with this kind of honor and gratitude.

  • ...gulp....blessings....

  • I'm with scouts 4th tanks, I was there in jan. 2006. Was he with 1/24?

  • I'm with scouts 4th tanks, I was there in jan. 2006. Was he with 1/24?

  • absolutely beautiful layout at Pine Ridge with the Tipi and casket. Unfortunately, I had trouble reading what was under each picture even with my glasses on, so I missed a lot. But even so, it brought tears to my eyes.

  • What a beautiful ceremony. God Bless the fallen hero and the reservation

  • a beautiful tribute to an outstanding young man...RIP prayers & thanks for your service, for the families...for all our fine service men & women...the ones who stand on the wall every day--watching over & protecting us all...thank you from the bottom of my heart--you are ALL in my prayers, daily

  • This is so moving! and a wonderful tribute to a fallen American hero. Does anyone know where I can go to download the music, this version of Amazing Grace?

  • Look up Native American Flute music. My favorite is R. Carlos Nakai he plays Amazing Grace in 2 ways! Solo and with back ground musicians. I like the solo one the best.

  • I am lakota sioux from the rose bud rez and going in the marines,i told my mom and dad if i die in war to put me on the famliys cemitary plot.

  • "Peter Mesteth Jr. was born in 1952.1 He died on June 26, 2006 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Portland, Oregon, USA; PORTLAND, Ore. -, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Portland. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam. " Pete facilitated Sweat lodges and other Lakota / Oglala ceremonies in the Portland area where I attended while I was a child and teenager during the 1980's.

  • As I've said in the past, Native Americans make dam good Marines, must be something in the blood and culture.

Protector/Warriors are respected and honored in their cilture.

    Keep Attacking!!!

    Semper Fi!

  • I distincly remember Pete once expressing grief for soldiers who lose their humanity and become "killling machines".

  • wow, very touching lets never forget the people who have sacrificed their lives for this country!

  • powerful

  • I remember this day... I love the way we Lakota honor our Akicita! (I'm also the proud granddaughter of a POW/Marine who served during WWII)

  • Very touching , incredible! I got misty eyed with the eagle feather in the coffin. Little wound a very befitting name. My respect and condolences to the family. A true hero.

    Beautiful song as well.

  • Marine Cpl. Brett L. Lundstrom
