  • this was the first song i ever sang to my wife and it was also the song we danced to for the first time as man and wife do to the fact she is the one who help's me make my music of the night

  • Why on earth arethe top comments big band theory it's normally a really strong emotional comment..

  • Andrew Lloyd Webber will be appearing tomorrow on The View.

  • just beautiful

  • Comment removed

  • WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU CUT OUT THE BEAUTIFUL RESOLUTING CHORD AT THE END FFS

  • WTH with the top comments... This is Phantom. Don't piss him off =P

  • Phantom fans/Big Bang Theory fans...quite a genre combo right there.

    I love it.

  • Why does this not have more views?

  • okay I can't find this version on Itunes D: Imma die if I don't get it!

  • 23 people need a lasso...

  • esto es hermosisimo, andrew alcanzó el extasis con esta opera!!! i love the phantom of the opera

  • Both her love interests suck. Raoul only loved her when he saw her singing and the Phantom was a twisted man who, sure, deserves sympathy, but not her.

  • @iloveanimals17 The phantom was the right choice ... do you have something against genius sociopaths with criminal history ? That is not very smart ... doesn't lead to a long healthy life ... not to mention it's rude ... and we all know what rude people deserve... Raoul was a douchebag with money and good looks ... hate those more than black people :))

  • @nachra The phantom didnt only have a criminal history though. He was a psychopath. The only person he probably wouldn't hurt is Christine. It's not his fault, though. He was shunned by everyone because of his face.

  • Is it weird/wrong that i'm using this song to audition for Avenue Q?

  • gives me chills♥

  • If I were Christine , I would go with Phantom

  • Christine was the monster for leaving the phantom when all he wanted was to feel loved......she left for raoul and left the phantom to suffer alone.....forget Angel of music...Phantom is an angel from god who only wanted Christine's love.

  • @happy7117 I think the love Christine has for the phantom is different from raoul. Christine has a crush on Raoul since young but she just sees the angel of the music as a god instead of someone she loves. She's more of sympathy towards his situation only she offered to stay, but then if for a boy girl love, then her heart is with Raoul~anyhow, I still feel that christine's a bitch XD

  • @perfection1216

Your saying, Christine probably would have stayed with Phantom out of sympathy and not out of love?? But she left with Raoul because she always loved him.....

  • @happy7117 The love of Christine towards the phantom is different from the love to Raoul, the love to Raoul is more of a couple love. In fact, Christine barely knew the phantom, it's just the phantom who have been observing her for a long time, it's quite impossible to develop new love, especially when her heart is already with raoul~

  • This song hurts to hear. It reminds me of the 1 person who I fell for but who was taken by her "Raoul" already. Still even though I know I will never see her, there will never be ANYONE like her..so I am loving someone like crazy who is long far away and who I long to love. Me being speech disabled makes me feel like a phantom and she ran off with her Raoul leaving the Phantom all alone.....still she has no clue how much she hurt me and how much I wish I could love her.

  • @happy7117 i know, girls suck

  • Michael Crawford is by far the best Phantom there has ever been and will ever be.

  • @suicidalthoughts8 It is also different lyrics, they take some of it out in the film

  • the music didn't set 22 people free

  • So... Not being perverted here at all. I want to say this as classy as I can, but I'm not sure I can.

This song really turns me on. Kinda way too much. He definitely would've had me after this. No doubt.

  • @TheFanwindow I know exactly what you mean...This song was stuck in my head earlier today, and I thought the same exact thing.

  • @TheFanwindow Seconded, this song makes me tingle

  • just hurry up and play the song!!

  • Anyone can help me find "Maniac"? There's an album named "Gold From The Musicals" and it has that version of Maniac that I like and it says that it was composed by Webber.

  • HE IS NOT THE BEST MUSICAL THEATRE COMPOSER! HE MIGHT BE THIRD BEST.

SONDHEIM IS THE BEST. NUMBER 1. SONDHEIM SONDHEIM SONDHEIM

  • @dmfahoome Yeah no. Sondheim has never written a great musical all on his own. Even with WSS he had Bernstein (rest in peace) to do the score. It's hard to fuck up Bernstein.

  • @TechnicolorNina Really? Are you kidding me? WSS was one of only TWO musicals he only wrote the lyrics for. And honestly, could you imagine WSS or Gypsy without their beautiful lyrics? I certainly can't. Oh, and you're saying that Sondheim has never written anything good on his own? So were those unprecedented 8 Tony Awards for best score and Grammys, Oscar, and Pulitzer prize-all for nothing? He did do Sunday in The Park With George, Into The Woods, Passion, Follies, Company...more, by himself.

  • @dmfahoome Let's see, of the ones you mentioned...Hated it, tolerated it, never heard of it, thought it was mediocre, Company was okay. And in before "uneducated idiot": I was a theatre major. Meanwhile, I notice ALW STILL has the longest-running show on Broadway. You were saying about him sucking, again?

  • @TechnicolorNina If that's your personal opinion, that's fine. But I'm surprised a theatre major would treat this type of issue in such a childish way. And secondly, I'm not sure why you quoted "uneducated idiot" because I never said that...And I don't really measure success in ticket sales. I measure it in commendation from your fellow peers, creating truly brilliant, meaningful art and writing things that provoke for all the good reasons. But not everyone's a Sondheim person...

  • @dmfahoome My point was, before you could fall back on "she's just uneducated," no, I'm not. I know musicals you've probably never HEARD of. Frankly, you're the one capslocking and going "SONDHEIMSONDHEIMSONDHEIM" so . . . who's the childish one here? I think you've forgotten ALW also has a cabinetful of awards and commendations, AND popular acclaim. Sondheim has . . . . critical awards, and can't keep a show open. Hm.

  • @TechnicolorNina I'm going to stop arguing with you because you probably have had some deep seeded hate towards Sondheim's music for a LONG time.

But out of curiosity...name a musical you think I've never heard of and I'll try to not lie and look it up on the internet.

  • @dmfahoome I don't hate him, I just think he's not a particularly great composer. As for shows you've never heard of, try "Bat Boy," "The Civil War," "The Roar of the Greasepaint, The Smell of the Crowd." I could be cruel and include "Sleepy Hollow," but that was locally written.

  • @TechnicolorNina Please. Bat Boy? Yes...I've heard of it. Haha. I've heard Greasepaint's name once or twice...not Civil War or the VERY local Sleepy Hollow. Although I don't find it impressive that you know about a little 1990s off broadway show...Doesn't say anything about character or passion in the theatre.

  • @dmfahoome Yeah, whatever. I've been doing theatre since I was four, which means, mm, about 20 years. If I had no passion for theatre, you think I'd still be doing it?

  • I never thought a song could be sexy.... but this song totally is sexy... i love it

  • love this song i reamber the lyrics

  • I would do anything to see this live. Ive been obsessed for five years, ever since I was in fifth grade, this is the reason why I am now the singer I am today, I wanted to be just like Christine, and now, next summer I will be going to Italy to train with my aunt who is a professional opera singer. Amazing and possesive music this truley is. <3

  • @Arreisenta Seeing it live is totally worth it. I got chills when the chandelier dropped in the beginning and the main theme began. Best of luck with your opera training!

  • @Arreisenta if u can do it one day, be sure it'll change your life. i listened to it the first time live months ago and i still tremble everytime i remember of this

  • 22 people have no taste in musicals...

  • I saw this about 11 years ago. Eleven years later it's still with me.

  • "Soft kitty, warm kitty

    Little ball of furr

    Lazy kitty, pretty kitty

    purr, purr, purr"

  • @raafles OMG... my mind is so blown :O

    That's awesome!

  • @raafles NO! NO! NO! NO! You get NOTHING! How dare you misquote :P. It's "Happy kitty, sleepy kitty; purr, purr, purr."

  • @strikeforceteen can you explain the quote for me? XD

  • @Poet2916 Lol on "The Big Bang Theory" (A TV show if you didn't know.) One of the characters says his mother used to sing him a song called "Soft Kitty." And the melody is similar. I heard it immediately when the music started playing lol. Youtube "Soft Kitty" and it's the first one. I'd link it but youtube's giving me some trouble.

  • @strikeforceteen I just saw the clip! lol!

  • @Poet2916 Hehe that's what I'm here for :)

  • @strikeforceteen

    Sheldon is the best!!!

"I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested"...lol!!!

  • @raafles damn it! when I was listening to the beginning I thought of soft kitty, so much for taking the song seriously XDDD I couldn't stop laughing :P

  • @raafles I do like kitties. they are fun to have.

  • @raafles

    Bazinga!

  • I remember watching this at her majesty's theatre 2 yrs ago, when I was 11. I still love this song!

  • I went to see this in Toronto... What an amazing experience.

  • @Rich13canada i remember this as a kid our school went to see this back in the 90s

  • Hm, talk about seduction...

  • So would have went with the Phantom

  • More than an adequate performance from someone who's 1st talent is acting. Oh,& I have a poster of the Phantom mask on a plain black background, framed & under 'shine-free' perspex,if anyone wants it,lol. It's just sat on my bedroom floor gathering dust.

  • I cry inside every time i hear the violin in this song

  • close your eyes, for your eyes will only tell the truth and the truth isn't what you want to see; in the dark, it is easy to pretend, that the truth is what it ought to be.. ♥ some of the best lyrics written ever..

  • 21 people didn't open up their minds and let their fantasies unwind...

  • I keep hitting the replay button! It's addicting!

  • If Christine gone with Phantom I'll happy more than

  • @Sone2539 Look up love never dies. It's the sequel to phantom. musicofthenight1313 (username) has the entire soundtrack on youtube.

  • At risk of sounding slightly emasculated i will admit this (Phantom of the Opera) makes me tear up every time i heard it

  • Love it :)

  • I'm a 37 year-old English singer living in Galway, Ireland. I'm working hard on my singing and would very much appreciate any honest critical feedback from real Phantom fans on my version of Music of the Night here on Youtube to help me improve. (Just type my name.) It was recorded a while ago now, and every singer must think they can do better later on, but there it is. Thank you very much for any feedback offered. Andrew Hawcroft. (A devout Artist Against Autotune)

  • @GodzookySnr Sounds a little breathy (audio or breathing issues?) and I'm getting a Christopher Lee/Boris Karloff vibe (are you trying to disguise an accent?), but otherwise, very enjoyable.

Do a little work on your breath control: My high school chorus teacher recommended taking deep tidal breaths before performing to expand the lungs and diaphragm (Take a five minute break while avoiding large movements (standing, walking, etc.) if you beging to feel light-headed).

  • @raynelycan Thanks for replying, and your comments. Yes, my breath control has been a big part of my development in the three years since I recorded it. No, I'm not trying to disguise an accent. Boris Karloff? Aye carrumba! Best wishes. A.

  • Erik is SO much better than Raoul. Phantom wins!

  • CLASSIC!!!

  • Why do other versions cut out the first phrase?

  • Can't....stop....hitting....replay!!!!!

  • I love this song my mom showed it to me when i was six and im 17 and still love this song

  • I like this version of the song better than the re-written version. The one that made the musical is good, dont get me wrong, but this is better I think

  • Can someone tell me if the mannequin in the mirror is a figure or an actress?

  • Thumbs if you went and saw this play yesterday. :D

  • One of my favourites.

  • this song is beautiful

  • I love the Phantom of the opera and have watched the film soo many times!!

But you can't beat seeing it at the theatre, its AMAZING <3

I love this song, more people should listen to it :)

  • This is so beautiful. Listen to the version of this song sang by Michael Crawford and Barbra Streisand. Its GORGEOUS.

  • 21 people didn't keep their hand at the level of their eyes.

  • @Phantommatthew I don't get it...

  • @inuyakino In the Phantom of the Opera, Madame Giry tell Raoul to keep his hand at the level of his eyes so the noose, or punjab lasso, that the Phantom throws will go around your hand rather than your neck and you won't be strangled to death.

  • i wish i could find the version with hugh panero

  • Original London Cast kicks ass. Nuff said.

  • I love this song..Please have a listen to me singing it.

    I am 10 years old.

    Katie.

  • @pogoniasis04 I'm glad that someone you're age appreciates music like this. Keep listening and share it with others.

  • Comment removed

  • who cares who sings it...the lyrics are beautiful!!

  • Damn I love this version better than the movie version.

"I compose the music of the night!"

  • Butler can't sing worth peanuts

  • IS THIS MICHEAL CRAWFORD EWWWWWWWWWWW :X

    GERARD BUTLER IS WAYYY BETTER

  • Comment removed

  • why are there different versions??

  • @MrScrable123 because this is the London Cast (the very first one) it was edited for broadway (and the movie) (i think)

  • this is a different version then the movie...i like both but this one is cool:)

  • The Phantom loved Christine like crazy. He even loved her after she died.

Personally, I would have gone with the Phantom if I was Christine. Raoul loved her too but still, would have gone with the Phantom.

  • @DuncansCPGuide there is a difference between love and what the Phantom had. That was a love of possession not of the person. His madness was he couldn't tell the difference.

  • @DuncansCPGuide HES A MURDERING STALKER

  • @DuncansCPGuide But letting Christine go is what shows the Phantom truely loves her, and not just lusts for her. The fact he lets her go with Rauol and lets her be happy. Ture the Phantom loves her, but we would not know how much unless he lets her go. That's why I both like how it ends and think Love Never Dies is not canon.

  • @DuncansCPGuide I agree, especially if Phantom cared for her when she need it most

  • @DuncansCPGuide You did't read the book, Christine didn't die, she ran away with Raoul.

  • @doritosaldoro She does died in the end. It shows Raoul placing the monkey music box on her grave and then shows that there is a red rose with a black tie on the base of the grave.

  • @hithereheyhey doritosaldoro was referring to the book(the original story) in it she runs away with Raoul, she doesn't die.

  • @DuncansCPGuide well in love never dies i think it seems like she does, unfortunately she's dies

  • @DuncansCPGuide The phantom Loved Christine before she could sing, Raoul loved her after he heard her sing. The phantoms love was true.

  • @DuncansCPGuide that's very easy to say. but I doubt you would have gone with the mutilated murderer just because he sings well...

  • @DuncansCPGuide

...But Raoul loved her first. Wasn't he Christine's childhood sweetheart? I mean he called her little lottie. But seriously, I still would have gone with the Phantom.

Or if we based it on the movie version, I would go with King Leonidas. T.T

  • feckin love this song makes me wanna go to a theatre so emotional

  • raoul is soo freakin ugly i would choose phantom all the time

  • the 20 people that thumbed down are in love with raoul.

  • this song is amazing! whoever the 20 people who put thumbs down have some Serious Issues! no joke!

  • Honestly, this is one of the most beautiful songs in the universe.

  • Where is the last note!?!?!?! I love this recording and I can't find it anywhere else but here! And it's incomplete and unresolved and it's DRIVING me NUTS!!

  • The book is pretty good!

  • Pffftt no idea of good music. for the 20 dislikes! Gerard butler in this film :D.. up to the end :s ewww haha!

  • @Piercus1986

One more thing, brush up on your grammar before correcting someone else's :)

  • @TheMaddieHatter We're back to this? Stealing my "worst thing you can be" and bringing up PERFORMING!!!! AGAIN!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!? LMFAO Jesus christ, are you people just naturally fucked from sitting in front of the youtube screen all the time? Or are you just relatives bred from relatives?? "Oddly enough, this guy has a job performing, whereas you probably don't" Uh, probably? Did you not bother to read the posts before you replied? Or are you purposely giving me ammo????

  • @TheMaddieHatter What the fuck can't you get through those stupid down-syndrome-esque heads of yours? I never LMFAO claimed to LMFAO be a GOD DAMN PERFORMER!!!!! BAHAHAHAHAHA. Ha. THAT WAS THE ORIGINAL ARGUMENT!!!! LAUGH MY FUCKING ASS OFF. Sorry, I just had to spell it out there, I don't think you are grasping the absolute joy I get out of knowing there's stupid cunts out there like you to make me look fucking feeee-nominal. You guys continually eluding to this performer shit is making me sick.

  • @TheMaddieHatter Also, you give me the lines and words that I got wrong you stupid twat, and post them, feed me and everyone else (OOPS, EVERYONE AND I, RIGHT? LMFAO) something that's worthwhile and intelligent.

Oh, and 'BAHAHAHAHAHA' and 'Cunt' on random lines, lmfaos, and the like, supercede grammar, especially when it paints as beautiful a picture as my non-down-syndrome-esque (Pssst... I MADE THAT WORD UP.. tee hee.. cunt.).

Hmm.. got some characters left... what should I.....

    Cunt.

  • @Piercus1986

Also, stop trying to sound "cool" because although ou may thnk otherwise, TheKenTerry sounds a lot "cooler" than you. Please, stop polluting this piece of music with your trivial argument. And next time, try not to be a hypocrit, becuause that's just about the worst thing you can be. Have a lovley day :)

  • @TheMaddieHatter He does eh? Broken arguments, mean-nothing arguments, and an all around cuntism, yeah, cool guy. Can I be him? Oh no, wait, I don't have a vagina, or down syndrome. Ah well, I can always take comfort in the fact that fat ass losers always stick together, even when their buddies are outrageously and impeccably cut up on their coveted 'forums,' this way, when I check my email every once in a blue moon, I get to enjoy someone's extremely painful attempt to put me in my place.

  • @Piercus1986

I'm sorry, but you sound like a complete idiot. Not to mention hypocrit, as well as an asshole. You made a truly arrogant comment and TheKenTerry went on to truthfully say that he's a better performer than you. Oddly enough, this guy has a job performing, whereas you probably don't. You also used language that was quite derogatory to several people, "down-syndrome-esque" just makes you that much more of a rude arrogant idiot.

  • I think most people would choose the Phantom because of Gerard Butler. In the movie, his deformity is SUNBURN compared to what you see live. I watched it with some family yesterday and my mother screamed when she saw his face, even though she had seen the movie before.

Also, I agree. These recordings do not do it justice. What's happening on stage at this moment truly brings this song to life.

  • saw this on Broadway last night - best experience of my life!!! It was insane - the performers are amazing! And recordings do not do it justice - live is 100x better.

  • Okay, I just want to say that the music is beautiful, but the movie is absolute SHIT! I mean, Emmy Rossum's voice is fantastic, but the acting is awful. Otherwise, great music though

  • Unfurls it's splendor.. asshole.

    Lightning. Lightning.

    THAT the truth. THAT.

    DAFTLY. Not deftly. C*nt.

    Nice try though.

    Not really.

  • @Piercus1986

He still most likely blows you out of the water.

  • @TheKenTerry lmfao what the hell does that even mean??? jesus, this is why youtube should be deleted, there is only emptiness and sorrow here.

we got people who put up lyrics for CLASSIC songs that aren't accurate, and then the douchebags who, um, defend them? I guess? I dunno.

here, let's all try killing ourselves, you first :)

  • @Piercus1986

You are the one complaining about lyrics here, I stated he is still most likely a better performer than you will ever be. If you want me to kill myself over that, you're a sick piece of shit.

  • @TheKenTerry uh... wait.. hold on.. I underestimated your down-syndrome-esque mind... you're saying, the fellow who posted this, this, work of art that he didn't create, um.. is a better performer than me? BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA what in the blue hell are you smokin kid? gimme some of that.

first off, I haven't personally released any musical pieces, and I don't intend to, so you saying some guy who posted a video is a better performer is asinine.

  • @TheKenTerry second, jesus, is there even a second? no. you're just an idiot.

I was kidding before, but seriously, do the world a favour and remove the foul gene that is you from this world.

    Cunt.

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA A BETTER PERFORMER!!!!!!!!! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

    Cunt.

  • @Piercus1986

Haha, you really sound like a retartd right now. Keep it coming, i'm sure you can sound dumber.

  • @TheKenTerry *sigh* I would say nice try, but come on man, its too late to sound cool. ah well.

    sad. very... very...

    cunt.

  • @Piercus1986

Haha, cunt doesn't offend me, i'm a dude. Go jerk off with tears to Hillary Duff of something.

  • @TheKenTerry We gonna keep doing this? Seriously? Uh, are you trying to make yourself look like an asshole? seeing as you're the one who acted cool and told me to do that? You're supposed to shut up afterwards, it's called being a bigger man, but just as I thought, you're a dumbass.

So here we go, two things, one, cunt - "literal - female reproductive organ; actual - to be a horrible twat, a douchebag of high caliber, a complete waste of space and time"

it aint supposed to offend you pal, it's

  • @TheKenTerry supposed to describe you.

    you cunt.

Two, hillary duff with tears and jerking off?? what in the blue fuck are you talking about? again with this nonsensical bullshit????? come on already and hook me up with your dealer's number.

or maybe it's not drugs, maybe it's just what you'd, for whatever bloody reason, want to do on any weeknight, I don't know. all I know is that you need help.

    see, I'm a cunt, I know this.

you, you're a cunt, and you're in denial, that's the worst

  • @TheKenTerry thing any human being could be, totally unaware that they are a cunt. this means you're a horrendously stupid cunt who is probably extra cunty with a side of self-righteousness and obesity.

    that's a DANGEROUS combination.

dangerous because people like you are the ones who finally find out one day that they're a cunt, and decide to kill themselves, and usually, as a last act of cunty goodness, they take a few people with them.

hence me begining this whole thing with

  • @TheKenTerry a request that you kill yourself imediately, and save the world another bullshit story about some dumb fucking pussy loser of a north american kid killing themselves because they suck balls, oh, and are cunts.

phew... I'm typing this and it winded me, it's hard dealing with shit stains like yourself.

ah, who the fuck am I kidding, that was easy.

    you yeast infected cunt.

    :)

  • @Piercus1986

Again, I don't even know what the hell your talking about.

  • @Piercus1986 you sir, are funny!

  • @lokna I aim to please brother, I aim to please.

Well, not really, I aim to make people like these couple of fanny-bandits (uh oh) want to kill themselves, how the fuck else is this INSANE overpopulation gonna fix itself.

I've already talked to Obama, and he likes my "Don't be scared, just do it" campaign, he's just worried that these people will further burden our lives by jumping in front of trains, or onto freeways, considerably lengthening the commute time for PEOPLE WITH JOBS.

  • @Piercus1986 Actually it is deftly.

  • @jmj23435 actually the original 1988 london cast says otherwise, but skillfully would make more sense than foolishly lmao, I think you may be right, hmm.. intelligent life, it does exist.

  • odd how the mask on the cover is not only not the mask the phantom wears, but also impossible for anyone to wear as there is no room for a nose...

  • @James281193 hard to show emotion int the full face too

  • never knew Gerard Butler had such a voice!

  • @theatchico That's Michael Crawford.

  • @theatchico

I don't mean to be rude, but this is Micheal Crawford

  • I think this version of music of the night made my life :D

  • what is the song christine and that long haired guy sing? i think his name is Raul?

  • gives me goosebumps...

  • Well....I personally think that Gerard Butler sounded 100x better!!

  • 3:15 - So beautiful. Gutwrenching even. The only moment more powerful is the silence immediately afterward.

  • nothing but respect .Michael this makes me weep ...........

  • The most overrated song, musical and composer in musical history. I hate all his stuff--so calculating, commercial, gimmicky, false.

  • @windstorm1000 you mean just like American movies,-ott,-overated,-gimmicky,-false.

  • Definitely Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's greatest song he ever composed.

  • I am so happy i saw that at EGR High School... so good! Amazing effects, great songs, and great cast! I'm proud to have a sister in the cast of one of the first high school production of Phantom! The Phantom of EGR was almost this good.
