This movie scared the he-l out of me. Robert DeNiro suits this part like it was made for him, it fits like a glove. I love DeNiro. This is a great thriller.
Cape Fear scared the he-l out of me, it is one of the all time thrillers and Robert DeNiro plays this role like he was born for it, fits him like a glove.
This fight scene was shot in Fort Lauderdale Florida just west of Andrews Avenue bridge. The alley still exists today, but it's narrowed off due to a parking garage developed after the film was made.
i was sort of dissappointed to find out that this movie wasn't filmed in North Carolina. I always thought it was filmed in Wilmington and on the real Cape fear river. I live in N.C and I try and keep up with all the movies that have been filmed here.
Cape Fear is really brilliant Thriller with great acting. Robert De Niro showed really superb emotions. The same with Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange and Juliette Lewis.
It sure is strange that he doesn't even flinch once when Danielle throws the hot boiling water on him, yet he screams when he's set on fire! :} And I how could he have snuck in the house to let the dog out and poison it without no one noticing him even with the family home that day? (He sure couldn't pull off that ol' house-maid disguise until she was dead!) Okay, so the either he was inside hiding, outside the house, or the wife did it to get back at her husband.
Not likely. Played with a ouija board when I was sixteen and asked how my death would be said that I would be shot at age 40. But hell has a hot place reserved just for you bucko! Ahhahaha!!
Man, if the three guys had just killed Cady and throw him in the dumpster, no one would've suspected. The police would've found him and said "Well, this here ex convict probably picked a fight with the wrong crowd, that or someone sought out a little 'private justice' on him. See, if they'd done this instead of just beating him up, that'd be all she wrote 'cause no one would have a clue as to who'd done it. The 'wounded' guy on the ground had to tell all b/c he landed in the hospital.
@silverbulletgirl29 Well Silver the whole premise was predicated upon Nolte's character Bowden having his hands tied by the law he serves as an attorney. He "could'nt do stuff like that". Even though he did bury evidence that would have acquitted Cady. Nolte's character is , as I see it the more screwed up of the two.
Very good film. Impressive de Niro, but a little over the top in some scenes. Great Juliette Lewis as the unsure, half-lured pubescent especially in the school-theater scene. My favourite is Nolte, who acts out the more detailed part of the easy-going snob slowly working his way down to the fear-driven maniac standing in front of the entrance door with a rifle in a very convincing way.
Look at the councilor while he hides in the shadows like the coward he is. Should have represented Max Cady properly and he could have avoided this mess. Somehow I do believe this fellow Max can indeed out learn them all, he sure kicked their asses.DeNiro is a master, brings Max cady to life. Great acting, entertaining movie.
Ahah, great. This was before De Niro was abducted by aliens (I am talking about 15 years ago) and replaced by some vaguely resembling guy, with no experience whatever in acting.
I hoped in this scene Max would have found Sam hiding and used that piece of pipe to knock his teeth into the cheap seats. But hey that's just me talking here.
Absolutely! The ending of this movie wasn't the best. I think its the only reason he didn't win the academy award. I forgot who won it that year. However, DeNiro was awesome in this role. I still remember when, I forget who, was asking what new things he wanted to learn and he responded with, "I think I'm going to learn earthquake preparedness" or something like that.
i think the point of this scene was to show that max cady is unstoppable...and plus its a movie...in real life NO MAN would be able to walk again after that vicious beating.hed be either paralyzed or more likely dead.
I haven't seen the movie in a while, but I believe the point with that is that he was into witchcraft/some other kind of demon stuff and this was giving him powers beyond that of a normal man. If you remember near the end, it's how he was able to get into the house even with all of the security measures Nick Nolte and his team put in place. It's also how, he was able to appear before Nolte as an illusion, then disappear. Max had access to powers not normal to man.
The beating Nolte's character imposed upon him did not work because Max Caty was sent from God to help Nolte's character come to a better understanding of his moral obligations. Shame it could not have ended with one less lawyer on the planet, they are worse than pimps and whores. They lie cheat and steal under the very letter of the law they have sworn to uphold.
no it wasn't that lol.never in the movie did they mention witchcraft or cady being involved with that. the movie was made for max cady to seem unstoppable. of course being a movie it was made to be pretty over the top. in reality max cady would have been killed or paralyzed when hit with pipes. i don't care who you are or what you do.but like i said the movie was a suspense so in doing so it made sense.
Actually, I saw another link where someone analyzed the whole film Pretty damn good analysis. Man, how could I have seen a movie sooo many times and missed all of the symbolism. Like PepperWhite62 said, it appears that Max Cady was symbolic of some kind of "angel" (crazy as that sounds) to force Nolte to deal with his mistakes in life. Check out "Scorsese's CAPE FEAR film analysis by Rob Ager. There's two parts. Again, it'll point out stuff that you might have missed like I did.
great come from behind victory triggered with that vicious head butt. I also love the part where he squares off with the gut with the chain and he has the bat, classic streetfighting, makes me proud
lolololololol nothing more pathetic than trying to jump somebody and you end up getting fucked up.Thats like trying to rob someone and they ended up sticking you up for your money.lolololool. Does anyone know if they have the scene where De Niro is talking to the Private Eye,love that scene.
I was at a party and somehow lost the people I came with. I had to hitch hike a ride back into town. A couple of dweebs picked me up and started asking me how much money I had on me. I had about $80 but told them I had $300 because I knew what they were up to. They pulled over and told me to get out of the car. I did. The driver tried to hit me but I ended up punching the shit out of him while his buddy was hitting me in the back of the head...
In this beating scene, people find it a funny or unrealistic- well, a "regular" guy probably couldn't get up from that attack, but Max Cady in the movie is a psychopathic, cold stone hearted killer. Those kind of guys in real life are mentally unstable and they don't know what pain is. I used to be a Prison guard and have seen it many of times.
You're missing some of the idea of the movie. He was able to get up from the beating not because he's a stone hearted killer, but because he was tapping into the spiritual realm. Look at the movie again. And look at the director's cut of the movie where he explains what his thought process was. Remember the scene that he "somehow" appeared in the house even though there was no humanly possible way? Or when he just appeared in front of Nolte, then disappeared?

I agree-DeNiro fucked it all up at the end when he lost the southern drawl, but this is one of my favorite movie scenes along withthe restaurant scene in "Reservoir Dogs".
I am like God! and God like me! You gotta love this movie, the original is great but what Mitchum couldn't do in the 50s De Niro delivers in the 90s, this is acting in its purest and greatest form.
I find it impossible to believe anyone could take a beating like that and get up and kick the shit out of those guys. good movie but I don't think it's as good as the original.
"i auum like god and god like me i am as large as god he is as small as i he cantnot above me nor i benoeth him baeeee" lol lmao hahhahahahaha that southern accent lol
that was a tennessee, south carolina, georgia, alabama, mississippi accent ..u actually think that sounded like a north east US drawl? i.e new jersey new york city philadelphia boston etc lol give me a break
that is respectful, taking a beating like that and still come out fighting against 3 armed hard men. but to win is in another leauge all together!!!!!!!!
Nope.Anthony Hopkins won instead for THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS(he was also great).De Niro won 2 oscars for THE GODFATHER P.2 in 1975 and RAGING BULL in 1981.
I agree, fucking awesome performance!!! I just saw the original, and I like this one so much better. He got criticism for turning the character into a Freddy Kruger type, but I think it's absolutely believable that he would be crazy and so eccentric at the same time, I've seen people like Cady, and they are bizarre but real. That's one of the best scenes in the movie, and one of the best line's in film - "Come out come out wherever you are". Brilliant!
This beat up scene is pretty good, but a little unrealistic at times, i wish it was more like the baseball scene in Casino :P. Cady got smacked in the face a couple of times with a bat and no blood or anything, and when his on the ground leant down getting smacked on his back it's just his shrugging a little, man would get fucked up, then at 1:18 - 1:20 he hits the guy a few times in back and he just runs off, man that would really fuck up.
Deniro's most convincing role because it was unlike any of his other roles. He didnt play a mobster for once, he played a human-bean, not that those roles were bad its just good to see someone with a little range. hats off to Deniro.
Well up to 1991 he only played a Mobster twice, Godfather Part II and Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, King of Comedy ect.... are certainly no mobster roles, but yeah he was fucking brilliant as Max Cady.

I recently watched the movie"The third man"with Orson Welles. There's a scene where the character of Alga Martin, followed by Harry Lime(Welles)says:"Come out, come out wherever you are".
I love this movie so much. I remember when I first saw it. I was rooting for Nick Nolte's cahracter but I was sort of rooting for Rob DeNiro's character too. I love movies like that.
I personally think Robert De Niro is the best actor alive right now, followed by Al Pacino. No offense to Pacino fans because he is an amazing actor, Dog Day Afternoon, Heat, Scarface, and Serpico were awesome.. But I just think De Niro is a much authentic sounding actor, and he can play ANY character.
quality clip geez. I honestly think this is deniro at his complete best! Well a good fim. I remeber my dad used to get a fil every friday, and this isone that really sticks in my mind. Superb film. Great clip dude.
deniro RULES. he's always scary, committed to the role, and has no inhibitions. him and Kevin Spacey. such good actors. who gives a hoot about the reality of the lead pipes etc. its a MOVIE for fucks sake, and deniro owns it
pacino USED to be a great actor - all he seems to do now is go around shouting his fuckin head off - but he was good, harvey keitel was good too - there doesnt seem to be anyone that still cant touch any of those guys-leonardo decaprio-he still looks and sounds like a child
I loved the scene where DeNiro picks up Nick Nolte's (almost) mistress in the bar. She absolutely had no chance(especially since she was looking to get loaded and laid anyway).
Don't Fuck With Robert De Niro! The best actor!

It's as simple as not having a fear of death.
You can do a lot of things that might appear as messianic but it's only due to the fact that people don't(and will not) accept reality.
Anyway, I know I can/will beat the shit out of people that try to suppress me physically.
I've been jumped before and can understand how this situation can be real.

Angelus Silesius - but he's more philosopher than poet, in my opinion of course. Anyway, one of the best scene from one of the best movie ever.

he lost the southern accent when he say's it? what the hell? you must have a hard time distinguishing regional drawls in the US
fashizze 3 years ago
He lost the southern accent when he says 'Fuck it if you're here what the fuck's the difference'. Sounds more like Brooklyn.
WanderingSplit 3 years ago
that was a tennessee, south carolina, georgia, alabama, mississippi accent ..u actually think that sounded like a north east US drawl? i.e new jersey new york city philadelphia boston etc lol give me a break

Did he win an oscar for this role? Because if he didn't that's quite a shame.

Nope.Anthony Hopkins won instead for THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS(he was also great).De Niro won 2 oscars for THE GODFATHER P.2 in 1975 and RAGING BULL in 1981.
mensahcarrelle 3 years ago
Glad you reminded me of Hopkins. Time for another youtube venture ;-)

no problem ;-)
ps:Robert was brilliant(as usual) but Anthony truly deserved it.

Modelcit 3 years ago
Well up to 1991 he only played a Mobster twice, Godfather Part II and Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, King of Comedy ect.... are certainly no mobster roles, but yeah he was fucking brilliant as Max Cady.

Awakenings
Raging Bull
Goodfellas
Casino
and of course, this beautiful movie.

deniro RULES. he's always scary, committed to the role, and has no inhibitions. him and Kevin Spacey. such good actors. who gives a hoot about the reality of the lead pipes etc. its a MOVIE for fucks sake, and deniro owns it
OzTerri 4 years ago
pacino USED to be a great actor - all he seems to do now is go around shouting his fuckin head off - but he was good, harvey keitel was good too - there doesnt seem to be anyone that still cant touch any of those guys-leonardo decaprio-he still looks and sounds like a child

I loved the scene where DeNiro picks up Nick Nolte's (almost) mistress in the bar. She absolutely had no chance(especially since she was looking to get loaded and laid anyway).
wgarrow 4 years ago 2
DeNiro played Max perfectly, as the John D. MacDonald bad guy. As for the realism of the thing, w
