Is a nice synth in a good price range, and better that the Minikorg the full size keys. Entry level is ideal and for some use for advanced musicians keyboardists, is nice gear, no waste.
@andrew3327820 Yes you can connect R3 to your computer using the USB connection, but it will work like regular controller NOT a synthesizer. You need some sort of interface for full connection. Also you can connect this device using the line out for earphones directly to your SoundBlaster. This way is easy but sound is not the best is possible :)
Am I correct in thinking that people are using the audio in and or patch downloads to create drums etc..? I haven't got that far yet too busy tweaking whats already on it! Glad I got this instead of a MicroKorg XL
@fletch1bluebottle I personally don't have the R3.... Trying to decide between that or the new Akai MiniAK..... But if you want to make your own drums and percussion use a blank preset and build up your own drums for example use a saw wave form to make a kick...... then use the amp envelope and filter envelope to shape it into a kick.... then use some eq and saturation (not sure if r3 has a saturation effect) to give it its final touches....... For hats and the like use the noise generator
@djfitzz (follow on) and the amp envelope.... then add a high pass filter.... to make a snare use a saw again... use the adsr again.... filter it down low.... then use the noise generator to add the high part... again use adsr and filter it..... you should be able to recreate all drum sounds on it.... It'll take some time to get use to but it'll be worth it!!!! I'd say you could download some patches aswell and ye you should be able to record in your drums, just use a good mic!!!!!
Kool song! I like the melody. It's all over the place and constantly moving. Techno with fussion influences. Can't wait to here more from you. Thanks.
SecureDigital cards were developed in 1999, with USB developed in 1996.
Also, it would be much more convenient for a touring keyboardist to keep his stuff on an SD Card always in the machine, and then that's all he needs. Part of the reason why even older keyboards (even the ones with midi connections) had floppy disk slots.
it's almost the same, though the r3 has more effects. the xl has battery power where the r3 doesnt, but the r3 has full size keys where the xl doesn't.
You made some beautiful music with this thing. I love the simplicity of the groove... then the arp with the res tweaked. Then the sine like wave with nice portamento over the top. Nice!!! Thank you. 5 stars.
hell you could get a used r3 from ebay or craiglist for the price of a microkorg. The microkorg is a terrible buy. The only "micro" synth worth buying from korg is the micro x korg.
there's at least a $100 difference between them... cheapest r3 on ebay when i checked was 470, cheapest micro was $11 lol.. one micron with 4 minutes left is going for $260 atm
MicroKorg retails at 399.00- I've seen used R3s on ebay go for as low as $400.00-450.00. Personally, I'd take a used R3 over the microkorg - but that's just me.
yea but who in their right mind would buy a microkorg new when the secondhand price is like a half off discount that cuts out about $200? in the $450 range, i paid $500 buy it now on a used nord rack & it's got a much wider sonic pallette than the korg engines from what i played and the oscillators sound prettier too
my impression of micro x is that it's kind of cheesy. there are better things than the microkorg but you can't really get anything better for the price.
My comments come from experience -- I've used both the microkorg and the microX. The microX is essentially a mini triton rompler synthesizer;you get the sounds of the triton for considerably less -it's a hell of a buy. The microkorg is a nice analogue synth, but I wouldn't purchase it at retail considering you can get a used R3 for a comparable price.
it's not analog, by the way, and I think it's a rather nice little thing. I'm convinced it sounds better than the R3, two of my friends have one and I've used it a lot, but compared to the R3s I've tried in stores, I hated them, the controls were horrid. but that could have been the speaker setup, it just sounded so thin...I'm still not convinced it's that much better than a microkorg, but I'll have another play around sometime. just didn't like it as an object either
na man i got the R3 and i'm really happy with it. you can do almost anything with it and create different sounds from scratch that you didn't even know existed :P
lol thast what i liek to hear if im gonna buy one. when plugged in does it have to be a midi? and when used as midi, the software enables you to use the sounds u have on thte keyboard in awhatever program your using, correct (such as protools?)
i know it could be MIDI and I'm 99% sure you can use different softwares on yer comp to add different sounds to it. I'm not sure if you can download them on it, though. Btw this is thefreedomrunners on a diff acc. I'll hook it up to my comp today to see if diff sounds work and maybe make a video.
no, of course it doesn't have to be MIDI. you can record an audio signal.. MIDI just lets the computer play the keyboard or the keyboard play a software synthesizer. But by making the computer play the keyboard I think you can record the audio coming out of it. Unless there's a clever piece of software that comes with it, but usually you need to get any sound from the audio out. MIDI itself doesn't send any sound signals, just MIDI data. that's what it is
:) yeh i think thats probs a wise move, the thing i wasnt sure about he most was the amount of keys :|. the sound's you get from both are fukin amazing, i guess if you have the money to go all out then do it man :). think ill be joining you on the r3!
lol totally agree. there are exactly two drum sounds on the r3 haha, both of which i used as you can hear. luckily the other stuff drowns the beat out early on lol.
