  • Is a nice synth in a good price range, and better that the Minikorg the full size keys. Entry level is ideal and for some use for advanced musicians keyboardists, is nice gear, no waste.

    Go for it.

  • AWESOME! :)

  • I've heard this same exact song in an electribe video. Only difference is that the guy actually plays it live.

  • was this all done on one R3? the beats and everyhting?

  • Go bro :)) Why'd you delete your piano bro? :( It was amazing!!! :|

  • Excellent electronic

  • Can I connect this to my computer to record it with audcaity via USB?

  • @andrew3327820 Yes you can connect R3 to your computer using the USB connection, but it will work like regular controller NOT a synthesizer. You need some sort of interface for full connection. Also you can connect this device using the line out for earphones directly to your SoundBlaster. This way is easy but sound is not the best is possible :)

  • its a powerful little synth, have one myself-

    -nice job

  • the clipping is horrible

  • I love it!

  • this sux

  • too much going on ?

  • So how did you go about recording this? MIDI, or just live playing?

And did you have more than one track, because if not, I need to know how to do that.

  • Love korg's STuff<<<I Agree the beat could use some work, but your use of melody is very refreshing, THANX." phenonix5'

  • Really like a lot of the R3 sounds. Hate all the drums though. Works out ok because I use a NI Maschine for those!

  • I want to see you playing it! I have this synth and would love to see hands in action so I can learn from others.

  • nice job

    peace

  • buuu it sucks

  • The song is good. But at the end, the volume was so loud it was distorting.

  • are you QUITE sure its loud enough?

  • wow this is really beautiful!!! i plan on buying this in the next 2 weeks.

  • Get a Roland Juno 106

  • Did you do the drums on the r3 too? If so, I should think that you programmed them yourself because r3 has no percussion presets, right?

  • @ariasdad You don't need presets.... learn to make your own

  • @djfitzz

Am I correct in thinking that people are using the audio in and or patch downloads to create drums etc..? I haven't got that far yet too busy tweaking whats already on it! Glad I got this instead of a MicroKorg XL

  • @fletch1bluebottle I personally don't have the R3.... Trying to decide between that or the new Akai MiniAK..... But if you want to make your own drums and percussion use a blank preset and build up your own drums for example use a saw wave form to make a kick...... then use the amp envelope and filter envelope to shape it into a kick.... then use some eq and saturation (not sure if r3 has a saturation effect) to give it its final touches....... For hats and the like use the noise generator

  • @djfitzz (follow on) and the amp envelope.... then add a high pass filter.... to make a snare use a saw again... use the adsr again.... filter it down low.... then use the noise generator to add the high part... again use adsr and filter it..... you should be able to recreate all drum sounds on it.... It'll take some time to get use to but it'll be worth it!!!! I'd say you could download some patches aswell and ye you should be able to record in your drums, just use a good mic!!!!!

  • @hmmm069 Read the manual and take a synth class/read about synthesis forever on your own.

  • Thats dirty!

  • Did you use the R3 and R3 software exclusively?

  • Love that dirty sound :P

  • fucking sweet

  • Dude muse.

  • Hello,

are you looking to sell this R3? I'm willing to make an offer. Please send me a private message.

  • Nice song

But why have you stop it ?

    :'(

  • AMAZING!!! :)

  • Did you recorded in 1 take? Great !!

  • you cant record this in one time ! you just have to yous a simple multi tracker program thats it!

  • greattt!!!!!:D

  • Kool song! I like the melody. It's all over the place and constantly moving. Techno with fussion influences. Can't wait to here more from you. Thanks.

  • sooo tight. keep it up!

  • this or virus ti?i like this betteri don't know why!!!

  • virus ti mannn

i mean this is great for the price, but if you can afford it the ti!

  • teach me how to do this please

  • I second this. Please?

  • Does this have a sequencer so i could loop drum tracks and leads and the like?

  • Thats what production is for, lol

  • Is the drum sound coming from the R3?

  • Ive heard it does have a drum kit but its not the main focus of the r3.

  • microkorg

    microkorg xl

    korg r3

    which one should i buy??

    would be my first synth

  • the R3

  • why would it need an SD slot, when you have USB connection to a PC, and can upload all settings via that method??

SD is old technology... USB is just much easier.

  • SecureDigital cards were developed in 1999, with USB developed in 1996.

Also, it would be much more convenient for a touring keyboardist to keep his stuff on an SD Card always in the machine, and then that's all he needs. Part of the reason why even older keyboards (even the ones with midi connections) had floppy disk slots.

  • is ths better than microkorg xl?

  • it's almost the same, though the r3 has more effects. the xl has battery power where the r3 doesnt, but the r3 has full size keys where the xl doesn't.

  • You are the best with this song guy ... EXCELLENT

  • thanks sizzletron, Is there no way to back up and load patches?

  • It comes with editor/librarian software.

  • You made some beautiful music with this thing. I love the simplicity of the groove... then the arp with the res tweaked. Then the sine like wave with nice portamento over the top. Nice!!! Thank you. 5 stars.

  • its also missing a way to loop things :(

please correct me if im wrong

  • did you use a drum machine?

or can the r3 put out drums like that

im between the micron and r3, and i really like the rhythm's the micron can do

  • the korg can make its own beats

  • NIIIIIIIIICE!

  • is the software 64-bit compatible?

  • Love this! The sound is amazing- just what I'm looking for.

Definitely at the top of my list!

  • cool

  • freakin nice synth lead part in there

  • i have the microkorg and the small keys pi** me off i didnt realise this existed will have to get one.

  • hahaha suck dick

but this ones way more expensive so your better off with the micro for its price

  • what do you call expensive? ive just bought a yamaha tyros 3 for £3,000

  • this is like £100 more, which is so worth it over the microkorg. They're both cool but this is much better

  • hell you could get a used r3 from ebay or craiglist for the price of a microkorg. The microkorg is a terrible buy. The only "micro" synth worth buying from korg is the micro x korg.

  • there's at least a $100 difference between them... cheapest r3 on ebay when i checked was 470, cheapest micro was $11 lol.. one micron with 4 minutes left is going for $260 atm

  • MicroKorg retails at 399.00- I've seen used R3s on ebay go for as low as $400.00-450.00. Personally, I'd take a used R3 over the microkorg - but that's just me.

  • yea but who in their right mind would buy a microkorg new when the secondhand price is like a half off discount that cuts out about $200? in the $450 range, i paid $500 buy it now on a used nord rack & it's got a much wider sonic pallette than the korg engines from what i played and the oscillators sound prettier too

  • depends what you want.

my impression of micro x is that it's kind of cheesy. there are better things than the microkorg but you can't really get anything better for the price.

  • My comments come from experience -- I've used both the microkorg and the microX. The microX is essentially a mini triton rompler synthesizer;you get the sounds of the triton for considerably less -it's a hell of a buy. The microkorg is a nice analogue synth, but I wouldn't purchase it at retail considering you can get a used R3 for a comparable price.

  • it's not analog, by the way, and I think it's a rather nice little thing. I'm convinced it sounds better than the R3, two of my friends have one and I've used it a lot, but compared to the R3s I've tried in stores, I hated them, the controls were horrid. but that could have been the speaker setup, it just sounded so thin...I'm still not convinced it's that much better than a microkorg, but I'll have another play around sometime. just didn't like it as an object either

  • that was fuckin good

was that all on the R3 though

    nice work

  • hey just got the R3, and i was wondering how can you record like you just did on your R3.

If any one knows how you can do something like that can you pleas help me thanks.

  • you can't really

  • micro x is more of a midi controller, micro korg isnt that original anymore.

i have the r3, and honestly its okay. i am happy with it, but i wish i took more time to look at other synths,

    hope this helps

    cheers

  • na man i got the R3 and i'm really happy with it. you can do almost anything with it and create different sounds from scratch that you didn't even know existed :P

    10 stars for R3!

  • lol thast what i liek to hear if im gonna buy one. when plugged in does it have to be a midi? and when used as midi, the software enables you to use the sounds u have on thte keyboard in awhatever program your using, correct (such as protools?)

  • i know it could be MIDI and I'm 99% sure you can use different softwares on yer comp to add different sounds to it. I'm not sure if you can download them on it, though. Btw this is thefreedomrunners on a diff acc. I'll hook it up to my comp today to see if diff sounds work and maybe make a video.

  • no, of course it doesn't have to be MIDI. you can record an audio signal.. MIDI just lets the computer play the keyboard or the keyboard play a software synthesizer. But by making the computer play the keyboard I think you can record the audio coming out of it. Unless there's a clever piece of software that comes with it, but usually you need to get any sound from the audio out. MIDI itself doesn't send any sound signals, just MIDI data. that's what it is

  • :) yeh i think thats probs a wise move, the thing i wasnt sure about he most was the amount of keys :|. the sound's you get from both are fukin amazing, i guess if you have the money to go all out then do it man :). think ill be joining you on the r3!

  • hey man, i debating on that too, really want to get the micro x.. not to sure tho!? need some good advice!

  • the bass and drums in this track were produced from the R3 ?

  • Hi.. rpmglockto. the R3 to create sounds, is it good??

  • greetings from aux88!

  • i really like it

  • the beat could use a bit more imagination and sounds very flat

  • lol totally agree. there are exactly two drum sounds on the r3 haha, both of which i used as you can hear. luckily the other stuff drowns the beat out early on lol.

  • great arpegiator though !

bought be a R3 myself the other day.

  • then get a drum machine or something? XD

but i understand how you wanted this all to be made on the R3

  • @BetaboyBuffet yes, the high quality of sound on youtube really gives you a feel for the music :)

  • does it have a lot of different preset arpeggios

  • 8 beats x 4 directions x ?8? different divisions of beats x lots of different swing values..... ya for sure

  • thanks man

  • Splendid sounds - another great R3 ad!

I played on a radias recently and liked the sound but don't want to pay for all the xtra features, so this seems perfect until I can afford a VIRUS TI SNOW!

It isn't an arpegiattor that comes in at 00:16 is it? (It has too much variation to be) the arpeggiator is only like, 8 beats.. is that even worth it?

  • actually... it is lol. i didn't latch it, but rather held down a different chord each measure, also moving into a higher register and amplifying it's saw quality ("cutoff" on the r3) when the lead comes in. and thanks! ya the virus looks sick but not exactly a starter synth haha

  • i just got my R3 today!!! its soooo damn sick :D

  • What would you say the cheapest Synth I could get would be that is actually worth getting as an introductory synth?

  • that was Grand! ^__^ the Korg R3 sure is a good synth

  • that's just windows movie maker not the color combo lol, but ya it's definitely bad.

  • wheres the beef?

  • This is trance!Get your genres right!xD

  • trance is based in groups of 32 beats and employs a lot of repetition and breakdowns/buildups. just because i used a sweeping pad doesn't make it trance lol. this is just general electronica. (i actually wouldn't even call it techno but it's pretty close)

  • Depends on the trance ;)

Progressive doesn't follow that format ,nor psytrance.Yeah you got a million subgenres for everything now and german techno is different to uk techno.I think in the us techno again is something different now?Anyway trance and techno is as much about the sounds used as the arrangement.Btw who gave me a negative,i was joking!

  • Lol not me. btw I REALLY hope you're not suggesting this is progressive (1:15 long lol) or psytrance (ya... no). I like psytrance though. Infected Mushroom is excellent.

  • loop everything a couple more times and you got a very decent track

    how you layer everything?

  • audacity - free, simple program.

  • really good job

  • Good music man, you've got talent.

This track would be fantastic if we were still in the 80's.

Try makin some modern techno/trance and you might be able to get somewhere.

  • Where´s the Techno Demo?

  • Where´s the Techno Demo?

  • Micron>r3 in every department except the interface.

  • Normally I don't go for these "fake" analog synths, but I played one of these at my local Guitar Center, and it totally won me over. It had a string sound that was even fatter and warmer than a Prophet-08 that was nearby. To be fair, if I had spent more time with the 08, I would have found something just as good, but I can afford the R3 (just barely).

The only thing that really bugs me is the short keyboard, but other than that, I am so getting one of these!

  • so phat! kick access virus' thin, weedy, cold digital sounds out of the planet!

  • yo i bought a korg r3 mayne check mine!

  • Well done!

  • tight!! did u use the arpeggiator to get those fast arpeggios?

btw, CHECK MY Korg R3 vids man... i just got it a couple days ago!

  • I AM KING KORG, lol good shit homeslice
