  • I understand what you are saying.Althrough I think that this "mind-body" trained person can get more of a 30second stretch than from a 10 second stretch, don't you think?Do you think stretching twice a day is good idea(I mean quality stretching, not just bounce-bounce)?And the last question I'd like to ask(and the one that concerns me most)is can I achieve high kicks with only passive stretching? And yes I do strenghten my legs, but im curious about the flexibility issue. Thanks,Paul!

  • Most people have a limit on how much ROM they can get in one attempt. So if you get all you can get in 10s, 30 sec will just be over stretching.

High kicks, maybe. Good high kicks, probably not.

  • I hold stretches for 30-45 secs and repeat that hold twice.I see you hold your stretches for about 20 seconds, but I believe thats enough for you,you are just "maintaining" your flexibilty, while I need to develop mine..Im really confused because I red that passive stretches are a waste of time and only isometric can make you stronger..So,I'd appreciate your opinion about that, hope you could clear that question for me :)

  • annihila70R,

    There are multiple approaches.

There is a lot to say about different stretches, progression, sequencing and much more.

I will say this about passive stretches.

Quality over quantity. If you take everything else out of the equation and leave just relaxed stretches. A trained person ( not a trained person in a specific flexibility direction, but a person who had mind-body connection) can get more out of 10 seconds then someone else can get out of a minute or two.

  • Great indeed, very helpful video.Paul,I would like to ask you something not related to this video, but strongly concerns me.I'd really appreciate if you answer me,because I need response from expert, not just from another "all knowing junkie".How much to hold static passive stretches? My goal is to improve my flexibility for kicking and for free and bigger ROM in all kinds of movements. Some ppl say 15-20 secs but I do not believe that is enough.Next comment, post count..

  • What exercises would you do for a person with dextroscoliosis?

  • I would say a PT who is in your proximitiy is your best bet.

  • 5 Stars, Very Good Video that also make for a good reminder to all instructors and coaches. Thanks again Paul
